@blade runner, you've got it in the right memory card slot and made sure there's nothing stupid going on like that right? My mate says it needs to be in the top one, and it needs to be in your pad when you plug it in, but i can't verify that.

Most guides recommend an official memory card, i assume thats for a reason since unofficial ones are very cheap and shoddy. Then again i didn't read much about it not detecting memory cards.

Now onto the raging mod chip vs softmodding debate:

Quote:
Mob chips a waste of money? Do not think so... I'd rather pay a few bucks more and have zero problems than screw around with boot disks, memory sticks, networking apps, software versions etc etc etc.

I don't think your seeing it from the actual cost and actual effort for each method. The effort in the softmod is the action replay, which you do only once. The cost, well its peanuts, for as cheap as you can get mechassault and a memory card (once) vs cash for getting a modchip (each mod you need to do). Buying a modchip for playing pirate games and making a media center is a waste of money in my book since its not worth the extra cash. If you've never done the softmodding process then your really overstating the simplicity, its straightforward.

The features offered by both are the same in the most part, pirate games, custom apps, etc. So that doesn't justify the extra price, and if you are doing other xboxs in the future, then it makes the modchip route even more expensive.

Its just the xbox live issue, if you got an external switch on the modchip and care to play it, and that's really not worth the cash extra for me. Dunno how your economy works though :)

ps. Please say you've softmodded before commenting about the process though, it really does sound a lot like you haven't from that comment right there.

That's not an official memory card.

The microsoft ones are official:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 53-9731803

You've got this cheap knockoff right?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 53-9731803

Officially licensed just means that microsoft has allowed them to make it, not that its personally made by mircosoft or the "official memory card".

I don't want to turn round and say you've definitely got a dodgy 3rd party memory card though and that's the problem, i'll do some digging. Damn i hate 3rd party cards though, the gamecube ones corrupt themselves.

You got no way of borrowing or getting hold of an official memory card to test?

edit:
Nope your memory card should work:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php ... View&id=53
according to this, 100% from all these people.

Yeah, it should. Which means one of two things, your memory card is faulty or there's a problem with the AR side of things.

To check the AR, run the software, then plug the card into the joypad, the AR logo should go green if it doesn't, check the joypad is soldered / joined properly by going to the game controllers in control panel and checking it works properly.

let me know how that goes :)

Yeah, ironically the Action replay cards are dodgy, some work, but most don't.

I've NEVER come across a card that I couldn't tranfer the save to though

The AR logo Flashes for a second then stays off, the controller works perfectly in control panels and the bios picks up the card as a usb mass storage device when starting up
