the site below sells supposed legal dvd-r movies. They talk about the Berne act in the faq section, though there's not a lot of detail...
http://www.revok.com/

so do these shops sell dvd-r...

Luminous Film + Video Wurks (along with proper dvds)
http://www.lfvw.com/

Sinister Cinema
http://www.sinistercinema.com/

Witching Hour Video
http://www.witchinghourvideo.com

Euro Trash Cinema
http://www.eurotrashcinema.com

they all look a lot more professional than that Klownman though. Don't know about those newer foreign movies - Casshern especially, thats listed as 2005 release for the US at IMDB. And Ichi-1 is already on dvd http://www.dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=658330

Forgive my sceptisism but i suspect that's a gross misinterpretation of the Berne act to make a quick buck from pirate movies.

I doubt there case will stand up in caught, how is that fair if someone made a movie and then universal stole it and distrubuted it in the US. What's the point of distrubution rights et al?

I totally agree. They seem very suspect to me.

Surely if it was truely public domain every man and his dog would be releasing them like Night of the Living Dead. At the very least they've pirated from an import dvd/vhs to get the movie in the first place which can't be right.

It'd be interesting to see what the Berne Act really says, and see how much places like Revok twist the wording around.

BTW, I only know of those sites from when I was making my website - was searching for any and all dvd shops around the world
(just in case I gave off the wrong impression there of supporting them).
