my friend was askin me about finding ISO files for movies and i thought he was crazy cause ive never seen links for them, but he showed one to me tonight for a movie and the iso was 2.62 gb. apparently, its supposed to be perfect dvd quality?

my question is, why are there no ISO links ever posted? aside from the obvious convenience of getting a 700mb avi *much* faster..

I'm not sure if that is the case, but from what you wrote, I suspect that the ISO was a perfect DVD quality, because it was in fact an ISO of a DVD(r) They are quite popular and I, for one, prefere them over the usual rared (or even not) VOBs and whathaveyou's.

Other possibility is that it was an ISO of an SVCD, in that case the quality would be like a regular XviD/DivX - meaning a poor rip/cap/whatever gives out a poor XviD/SVCD and a good one the opposite. The only difference is that, of course, the avi will be much smaller that an SVCD.

Here: http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=4 is a guide to different formats, which covers all in sufficient detail (and here http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=522 is one only about formats). Just scroll down to "What does ??? in the filename/release thread mean?".

My main source lately has been shareheaven. i see a vob or rar pack here and there, but i never see ISOs. i understand why it wouldnt be necessary for TS or CAMs, but i usually dont see them for dvdrips/dvdscreener rips at all!

@Fear_Itself, that might be just coincidence, I stumble over DVDr ISOs all the time. Though I admit that full 4+GB files are kind of cumbersone for the ed2k network and come to think of it, I usually get them through BT.

Also, it's easier for people to just copy what's on the disc and rar it, so that might be a reason too

its emule hence why you don't see isos:
Code:
As it is a network derived from the ed2k network and, therefore, has to maintain compatibility when it comes to identify files uniquely, the 4GB maximum file size limit exisits in the Kademlia network too.

http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ_eD2k-Kademlia

Its got a filesize cap at ~4GB which is one of the main traditional reasons its split up into vobs in rars.
