I can't believe people never got that series.. way batter than some stupid Friends or Everybody Love Gaymond. Guess there isn't too many eccentrics or philosophers left in the world these days. Media overload = zombie nation. :wacky:

Aparantly I have a broad yorkshire accent.... hooray! Now I can talk in code infront of americans

Seriously, people can understand skull-f*ckingly annoying accents like Brooklyn/New Yorkers, and texas, but then when someone speaks normally without a real strong accent they can't understand?

Personally, I think its because they speak at a normal rate instead of overemphasising stupid insignificant syllabols in the middle of words.

hAs anyone nOtIced thIs annOying trAit?

Strangely, if I do this stupidity, people can understand me when I was in the states (then again, I'll be buggered if I can understand what the Scots are saying most of the time). It just makes out as though you don't know where to put emphasis in a statement, and makes it sound as though your an idiot or your not confidence enough with what your saying.

I think Cockneys might be easier to understand cos they do this emphasis on the middle of words a lot of the time.

Ah the joys of colloquialism

Well 'The Cat' in Red Dwarf has a fake American accent - sounds good to me though and when I first heard Danny's real accent it was weird. I wonder how good it sounds to Americans though, or is it obviously put on?

Lister being a scouser is probably the least understood by non-English people, but Rimmer and Kryten (albeit with a Canadian twang) have very clear accents and I fail to realise how English spoken with such clarity can be misunderstood. But then again I've never been to the USA.

Anyone dared to watch the American made pilot of Red Dwarf? Saw it released over on UKnova, but was loathe to download it as it's allegedly utter crap.

And are they still making the movie - I hope not?

Danny accent aint weird at all, doesn't sound american at all, listen to him on the audio commentries or in any film where he isn't in acting mode. He's just got a lot of plastic in his mouth (he wears fangs of course  ), which I'd suspect is the problem and why he hasn't to speak clearly.

Chris Barrie was an impressionist, so he should be easy to understand since they normally have strong vocals.

Like all american pilots of uk shows, yes I've seen it and its terrible. There's a making of documentry on this S5 DVD btw :) Not had chance to watch it but I bet it will be funny... the previous dvds have been some of the best made I've ever seen in terms of quality and extras. Essential purchases and very funny!

Filming now... Red Dwarf has never been the same since Rob Grant left (after Series 6, arguably the best). S7 was the worst, and S8 wasn't too hot either, so I'm worried about the movie.

You can buy autographed Red Dwarf stuff at http://www.thevideodrome.co.uk
They post worldwide.

They have in store signings, I think the next one is Cloe Annet (on 1st April), they've already had the other main cast members. So if you check with them before a signing (they have them on the release dates to the DVD releases) they might be able to get the Ltd Edn's in to get them signed for you.

Previous signings would probably still be available at the website.

Received Series 8 with scutter model last week. Because my collection was ruined by opening Series 5 with the Starbug, I had to buy it again. Looks much better now :D
