My motherboard supports both IDE and SATA HDD's. When I upgraded, the mobo, I didn't upgrade the three IDE drives because I had 200GB and hey, you'd never fill all that, right?

Anyway, with the price of HDDs being so low, I could whack a couple of 250GB SATA drives in and massively increase my storage.

Question is, can I run the SATA & IDE drives at the same time while I copy all my stuff across to the new drives? I'm not bothered about long term stability, just getting my existing stuff copied over.

Also, are there any issues using an image of an IDE master drive on a SATA master drive? (So I don't have to re-install the OS & Apps).

You can, I do without any issues at all (running 2 x ide and 2xSATA in raid 0)
Can't answer the question about the image with any confidence, but I can't see why it wouldn't work

Great, cheers PC_A.

I can't see any reason why the image wouldn't work either, but you know computers.

Might be as well to do a fresh install anyway.

I am running 2 SATA and 2 IDE drives. I had no trouble installing the SATA in the first place but I had a trojan and tried to reinstall which it refused point blank to do, fortunately I had a ghost image and reinstalled from this. I have been told that the reason it had problems was that it didn't like having both SATA and IDE, but I don't have any probs at all in the day to day running of the system.

Never tried taking an image from IDE to SATA but I can't see there would be a problem.
