I'd like to express my anger with hollywood, I'm sure that many of you die hard horror fans will agree with me that this bullshit with remakes has got to fucking stop. What are classic horror movies now will be ruined by these god damn remakes. This shit has got to stop. Anyone agree with me here?

I actually liked some of the remakes. Amityville Horror was enjoyable, as was DotD and TCM. BUT I agree its got to stop, we all know its a cashcow, forget 'art'.

It has been and always will be that way. If its not a remake, its a rip-off. And its not just Hollywood. Its everywhere. Just remember, one of the two most important positions on a movie is "producer". The one in charge of the "product". If you want art, sift through the mess of indy movies and keep your fingers crossed.

Could be rather amusing. I mean the more the blood spatters the better ain't it?! Athough it surely depends on what they're gonna do with the original movie

Hollywood never made any of these films, the actually hated them and spat on the people who made it. So if any of you like the classics like Texas Chainsw and Dawn of..., then you stick to the oldies. Dont feed those rich bastards anymore, the have a sickness..its called money!

Hey,
Hills Have Eyes kicks ass!
The spirit stays very true to the original and is perhaps even more meanspirited..
Plus its been made by someone who evidently understands the concept of Horror..
Dont get me wrong i think most of them suck the sweat of a dead mans balls (the Fog is one of THE worst movies ever!), just a shame HHE may get bandied in with these, when its a worthwhile exercise in Horror...

Personally, I hated the original last house on the left.

Anyone else got this pain in the back of their neck that's getting worse the closer it gets to The Wickerman remakes release?

My remakey sense is tingling.

Wickerman is one of my favorite movies for lots of different reasons. No matter how well done a remake is... it will still be trash to me. So bring on the trash... the sooner I get to bash it the better. I may even see it at the theatre, so I can bash it as I watch it on the big screen. Yeah, I'd pay for the privilage.

I actually don't mind the new fad of remaking old classics.
First of all, I don't see how they "ruin" the originals, this ain't no Star Wars (they're not, like, replacing the originals by the new versions, thank god). Nobody is forcing me to pay 8$ to see a shitty remake of The Fog or Texas Chainsaw. Some remakes have actually been kicking the original film's ass (Hill Have Eyes, for instance, as I consider the original one to be one of the most over rated horror flick ever), or even present another p.o.v. (Dawn Of the Dead 2004 was a perfect example of this: Turning a smart, classic film into an efficient no-brainer action flick is fine by me. I see no pretention in that).

Dawn of the Remake efficient? now i'm positive nobody has seen the same piece of mtv-fondling crap i did :o

I mean it started good with the whole starting sequence and the motorway bit, but then it went rapidly down hill... being a remake was the worst mistake they made.

Hmmm, must disagree on that, I really liked it. It?s a no brainer allright, but a well done one.

that's odd, so it didn't go down after the intro in your view and that the worst part wasn't the fact it was a seige movie which they displayed quite adequetly on screen that they couldn't do? I have to say, i thought that was pretty much the sole consistant complaint about the movie. A no-brainer action fest... erm... seige movie? erm right, that worked, oh wait... the other one, no it didn't. :googley:

Anyway i'll digress on why exactly being a remake was the big problem with that movie, and why it was only okay and not good imo.

They should never have attempted to copy the whole shopping mall thing and done something new instead, then it wouldn't have dug itself into the mtv action without much action rut it did, and the finale wouldn't have been a mad-max style break-out sequence because they don't know where to go next. I mean how come everyone saw this cummulating in the A-team shop class followed by the "oh lets drive in this custom bus" moment? That was soooooooo lame.

I mean at least land of the dead, which was pretty crappy, actually mirrored its cheesiness with the rest of the film being set in this post-apocalypitic crap fest world. And to romero's creidt he can still actually EDIT his movies like a movie, not a pop video so it doesn't give you this god awful headache to match the god awful film.

Dawn of the Remake just seemed like this cheesy cobble-ware movie, where it was watchable in its aspects of originality (or rather mtv cloned originality), but which rapidly lost the plot the further into the movie it got and the further away it got from a chase sequence. I just don't see why they had to remake dawn of the dead, it would have been a lot better if they simply didn't... but i guess it was to avoid writing something, or something?

The whole sequence in the mall was a bad move, the director couldn't handle a character driven piece at all, and was obviously more at home with running zombie sequences (much to the dismay of an old fashioned zombie flick fan in a mtv world). So instead of doing a seige movie (which is what the plot called for), from what i recall we just have them in a building and they hopelessly fire off events to avoid telling a character story , and instead splice in some dawson's creek-come-lost style "pan through the character's interacting with each other to show the passage of time" cuts in every so often.

So The problem was he remade a movie that effectively was a seige movie, which requires characters and social commentry to work. He'd have been better of remaking Mad Max 2. of course that would probably be shit too, but at least we wouldn't have this excrusiating reaching beyond his abilities.

To top it off, it had this horrendous editing style by a director that clearly "knows" the youth market from directing cola adverts for mtv.

I thought it was okay. I just found that all of its flaws come from attempting to remake a movie plot that the director seems to have no grasp of how to attempt. As soon as it started 'remaking', the film suffered and the audience, I think you'll find, started noticing how crap it was from that point; hence why it was the single biggest mistake of the movie imo, tying it down to a storyline that did not suit the director's... erm... "abilities".

yeah that one was announced a while back, a couple of years... its a remake in the first place though i guess (the 80s one that is)... Cronemberg has already given his 2 cents:
http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules/news/index.php?id=55

Evil Dead remake is a retarded one if you ask me, although Campbell says its completely different and not really a remake. Which in itself just sounds like they are finger banging the franchise for a quick buck if that's true. It could just have easily not been evil dead.
