Plot:

A young boy with a troubled home life becomes "chosen," and he stumbles into the middle of a great spirit war, where he meets a group of friendly spirits who become his companions through his journey. Yeah, with the incredible amount of movies he's making it's hard to keep up. Looking forward to this one. :)

I clicked the Mosbricka release. Which one have you got?

at least! i've been waiting for this one quite some time. but sadly Miike seems to be slowing down in directing movies - 2005 wasn't good for him, maybe this year he'll improve.

anyway, thanks a lot!

he's got quite a few films that are different from his normal (if this is a proper word regarding Miike ) oeuvre: 'Happiness of Katakuris', 'Bird People in China' are the first that pop into my mind...

LOL u guys. if u in fact consider the "ichi" or "d.o.a." type flix "typical miike stuff", then sure u`ll find MANY miike movies quite "different". ;)
more great "different" miike movies u should check out (just a few additional examples): city of lost souls ( http://www.kfccinema.com/reviews/action ... souls.html ), kumamoto monogatari ( http://tombofdvd.com/kumamoto.htm ) and my fave miike, which surprisingly is a fantasy action comedy: zebraman ( http://www.celluloiddreams.co.uk/zebraman.html ).

this movie (great yokai war) could have & should have been better.
still a fun and moody fantasy flick (predominantly targeting an audience that be japanese youngsters).

ps: heres the original (yokai war movie, from the late 60s):
Yokai Daisenso.avi
subs should be around on ed2k or kloofys

maybe LOL maybe not, but as a typical 'Miike oeuvre' i consider yakuza films and splatter fests - so looking at his filmography - the films i come up with and you are rather exceptions.

btw, 'Zebraman' suxxx! i tried to watch it some time ago, but couldn't survive through it... turned off half way through. of koz, it's only my opinion so don't get angry

im saying cuz anywhere u go, u`d bump into comments about "typical miike" (as labelled by the people); and collective eyes wide open at anything from miike thats, well.... not ultraviolent yakuza stuff

and no need to get angry either when im saying: zebraman is incredibly ingenious like that, if one doesnt appreciate it, it must be a person that has strong reservations against the particular styles and techniques being used (which is cool- different strokes 4 different blokes), or they downright dont get "it". :P
(ps: if u quit on it early, u missed a lot of rowdy, crazy (positively) twisted action and of course u missed the over-the-top 'big boss opponent' !!)

of course im not mad at anyone disliking what happens to be my fave miike flick.
i know how great it is, i can only pity the ones that are "the other kinda blokes" and wont get their piece of entertainment outta this fine fine looney hilarious movie
actually, its hard to really wholeheartedly recommend ANY miike flick to ppl (especially if u dont know em well on a personal level- but exactly those are our clientele, when we post these rants/reviews/recommendations on the web).
i s'pose "encouraging" ppl to give miike a try (no matter which movies of his) is the only halfway sane thing to do here
.... and encourage em furthermore, not to give up on miike outputs so easily, if 1 or 2 flix didnt deliver for them  but..... thats not so sane anymore altogether he he.

geez, i thought i wasn't that drunk when writing my previous post, but if i had added this whole 'don't get angry, it's only my opinion' thing, I must have been totally shitfaced

anyway, maybe i'll give ''Zebraman' another try, but it won't happen anytime soon  got to see MPD Psycho first and couple of others.

as for recommendations - i would recommend to anyone who doesn't hear about Miike, well, i'd tell him to try 'Ichi'
