I've started browsing for film schools now, but it's a wild jungle out there. All I can do is try not to look like food...

I decided on trying to become an educated cameraman. Maybe with knowledge of lightning (eh, like in Lights and stuff).

My first hand choice of places are England and Australia. I'm also flirting with the thought of Canada, but is it even colder than Norway up there? brrrrr.... Holland would also be nice, since I'm half dutch.

I found there is a film school in York, which is a place I really like, but don't think they have any specializtion but rather just a general study, which is not what I need.

any help and hints would be greatly apreciated!

Seriously, I think it all boils down to what you want to get outta the school. If you want to get technical expertese, or is it the artistic style you want to develop.

The UK is a good place because we have / had a top class film industry and there's a lot of talent here, particularly with BBC and Channel 4 that do lots of top quality shit. Hell if you want to be a cameraman, BBC wildlife documentries always come out with handfulls of awards. I'm guessing your wanting a career in films, the think is, I'd suspect if you want to make money you'll have to do adverts and tv as much as film.

I'd look to countries with a strong film industry, which is USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany and Denmark. Can't give anymore info, but I'll keep my eye open for courses and what not :)

i lived in california for many years, seemed like everybody interested in the technical side of filming alway got jobs in pornvideo making. in van nuys(idoubt i spelled that city right) not the 'acting' part, but the behind the scenes parts, being assistants/apprentice/gophers and mostly just carring heavy crap around. not much money made, but if you werent a total idiot, just trying to get laid, or drug addict it was a stepping stone. they have like employment agencies that specialized just in this stuff.

this is just secondhand info i heard people really interested in filmschool technical stuff talking, but what male age 13 thru 70 wouldnt be a little interested in porn chicks.

hehe,
man, you got to be pretty desperate to be a fluffer, especially if your a male and not gay.

ah, but i guess somepeople have quite a different view on the things they would do for money. no amount of money or threat of violence would make me put on the kneepads.*

besides porn,
those documentary type things, going into jungles/deserts whatever places to make films about critters/plants/peoples i think would be a nice job.untill the first round of malaria/dysentary/scabbies/projectile diahrea hit in the middle of bumfuck nowhere.

(or 'every expedition needs a fluffer').

*but you kids today, ah who knows what they teach you in schools these days. i like to think i'm as close minded, intolerant and rascist as the next guy, but i really lack the energy to hate someone for being gay/bi.though i can safely say i kind of hate everybody a little bit, not enough to bust them in the head with a crowbar, throw them in my trunk('boot') and chuck them in the old woodchipper, just enough so that when someone says 'have a nice day' i say 'make me.', or 'god bless you, young man' i can reply with a polite 'fuck you and fuck god'.
