i actually compared arcon's and unseen's rip and there are some errors in arcon's rip in several scenes with low contrast.

so i deleted it and went for unseen's rip

Really, can you remember a particular scene so i can check this? This wasn't a playback an issue was it? What's your setup you used to check?

I checked the fileheaven thread, its a playback issue by the sounds of it:

I see what he's talking about when I watch it in Media Player Classic, but when I load it up in NanDub to take a screenshot, it's not there.

Arcon wrote:
that sounds like a postprocessing problem then. what you see in nandub is the contents of the unaltered video stream decoded by xvid. if you decode the video with ffdshow+xvid and disable post processing the result from the player should look exactly like in nandub.

The rip is fine, no smearing here....

I did not have any "corrupt avi index" problems. The file played fine from beginning to end. I also did not notice any smearing in any scenes.

If its not there in nandub, its likely a post processing thing.

Definitely nothing wrong here anyway, i didn't see anything like that when i watched it. I deleted the unseen one myself.

This movie sucks.
Yes, the graphics are outstanding and fabulous by their twisted design.
Yes, the music is quite okay if you're watching the movie (when I was listening to the soundtrack at home, it was rather annoying).
Yes, there are few nice scenes.
But does it really make a good movie, especially a horror movie?
There is no good plot (just "Going to Silent Hill and then the monsters come out...", blah), no climate, no good acting, no story, no suspense. Just some loosely linked scenes.
As if you were watching a game demo, not a movie. I would give it 3 points from 10. One for music (only to listen watching the movie), one for fx, one for graphic designs. Rest is silence...

Great movie! My brother has the DVD of this. Actually it was a gift form me. :)

The scene in which pyramid head rips the entire skin off that woman with one jerk is simply awesome.

I bought it on dvd, but i wouldn't say it was great... it could have been great, it had the art work established by the games but I think they fumbled pretty much everything.

I might grab a 1080p rip of it if there is one and give it another go when i get my projector.

There's a documentary about Centralia too:

Seems pretty hard to find though.
