Ok Ok I digress. I'll check out some films, hopefully they'll change my mind. (I still cant see a culture that puts panties in vending machines making sense ;) )

If I was sounding like I was defending Hollywood films, then there's a noose with my name on it.

Asian films > too smart for me
Hollywood films > too stupid for me

So I watch early 80s Italian cinema, it has the proper balance between those polar ends.

And I now I know, don't mention a word against PAL or asian cinema, cuz spud likes to rant!

Well i'd say you'd die in seven days, but grind said that's too boring so you will die when the rand() function reaches 0.

@grind,
/me puts on his samuel l jackson in die hard with a vengence voice.

Americans cant wait seven days!

We want the DVD the day the film's released in theaters!

And if you don't feel the need to drink pepsi halfway through, then its not doing its job.

Anyway, at this point I'd rather not see a remake/update, but more of a classicly made film. I was watching Commando the other day, and I was thinking "Why don't I like most of the action films of the past decade?"

Theres just something about the computer homogenizing that gets too involved. There are no more realistic colors, its all blue-hue or gold-hue. The organic feeling is lost.

They don't need to remake films younger than I. The best remake I can think of was made around the time I hatched.

Did films seem this 'commercial' to those in '81?

When that came out, were people trashing it for being a remake?

complete thread-jack again!

But...

Futurama is coming back I can't wait! Trying to not over-anticipate (positive or negative), it can ruin enjoyment.

Thats why I don't look foward to remakes ;)

HHE was better than expected, for that same reason.

I'm in two minds about remakes.

Firstly I think classics like The Fog and The Wicker Man should not be remade as they are almost perfect.

Then again, Japanese horror films like Ring and The Grudge should be remade as English versions as not everyone will sit through a film, however brilliant it is, when you have to read subtitles and these great stories are given a wider audience through a remake.

I had hopes for The Fog remake. Unfortunately, it came off like a TV movie. The Wicker Man, I had no hopes for. It was good, but very dated. There's no way that story could be updated (expecially not by an American studio). Hmm. Maybe if it were remade by a Japanese company. That would be interesting....
Nightbreed would make a perfect series for HBO. I would definitely watch that.
Others that may be able to be remade well:

Don't Go in the Basement. Still a gritty indie film, just updated and re-interpreted.
Wolfen. I always loved the book and hated the movie. Who knows? Maybe, it can be done right.
Neon Maniacs: Make it as a studio film and give it the franchise that it deserved.
Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS: Update it to Guatanamo and make it very anti-American. And, of course, make it Ilsa, She-Wolf of the US.

:beerchug: for Wolfen!

The book needs an updated conversion. The old film is good, scared me pissless in my younger years!

I agree with Bazzdude about the 'wider audience'. At least some ahem foreign films don't fit the average american attention span. Too bad Hollywood misses the point all to often. They know entertainment, but it is still commercial art. US has many schools churning out kids with big dreams of hollywood. Ok this turning into a rant.

I think a few Dean Koontz books would be really good, if they avoid affleck.

And one more FUCK American Made-for-TV movies! Unless its 'premium', it will suck ass guaranteed.

And another thing. WTF is with this filtering on shit nowadays? Why does everybodies skin have to be blue or yellow or green or red. Dammit! not to be racist and offend you blueberries out there. Some nice natural lighting would be fine.

It seems to me they teach these students how to emulate all the coolest scenes from the classic films/videos and then make it like that consistently.

ok... i feel butter now. :wacky:
