OK so I have it, my very own chipped X Box it all works fine, theres loads of games on it already aswell. The main thing i wanted this for was to play media files. It has loads of apps inc X box MP so i try out a few discs and blow me if it will only play audio on 2 out of 5 files i try :matrix:
why is this? i tried divx 3 and 5 and x vid files which play fine but 2 will only play sound.
any ideas before my expectations are dashed.

Are you using xbox media PLAYER?

If so, upgrade to xbox media CENTER, all your problems will end :)

What files (i.e codecs) are you trying to play?

What build of XBMC?

Are you outputting digital or analogue (and are the settings in xbmc set up accordingly?)

again ac3 sound is there but very quiet

I'm guessing it's a codec issue.
:beerchug:

You need to upgrade to a newer version of XBMC (PM me if you're having trouble getting hold of it)

In order to ascertain your output go to settings then system and make sure that it's set to Analogue (I'm guessing it is though :) )

Just the xbmc from the ftp (which I completely didn't do before I went to lunch :oops: )

I'll do it now

Alternatively, there's that xkai bundled with Xbox Media Center distributions too, okay that's a "wide area network" application but you can run your own server and have it for local or private gaming with your friends. Just plug your xboxs into a router and set it up to connect to your xkai server (be it a machine ip / dns name or just a local computer name and port)

http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/

That's assuming you didn't mean wide area network but a wider gaming system like xbox live.

Spud thats sounds like what we need, I live about 15 miles from my friend and we want to be able to play each other without having to join some major network. I'm not a big gamer really but fancy having a go :lol:

if there's just a couple of you you'll want to check out the co-op games. Deathmatch with just a few is always pretty lame. Take a look see:

My Bookmarks have stopped working with the latest version of XBMC. I have bookmarks to my PC movie directories thus:

Code:
<bookmark>
     <name>PC Streaming</name>
     <path>smb://username:password@PCName/path</path>
</bookmark>

Which worked fine before, I just hit the 'PC Streaming' option under 'My Videos' and it got straight to the destination. Since I upgraded, the bookmarks won't even appear, despite modifying xboxmediacenter.xml and transferring it across several times. I have to use the SMB Network Share option and put in the u/p for the PC THEN for the shared folder EVERY time, and it's bloody annoying with a remote control. :evil:

Where are those bookmarks?

They need to be in a new file under the Userdata directory called sources.xml
