If you re-install XBMC it will read everything that XBMP does, PLUS it will also play newer versions of the supported codecs

Ok, thanks for your help guys.

If i reinstall XBMC i guess i have to connect the xbox to the router and transfer it that way. Or can i put it on a disc and pop it in the tray and install it that way.

it's MUCH easier to ftp it across, PLUS it also means you can stream media from your PC

Hmm, but to stream media i'd have to have it connected by a cable, the xbox gets moved around the house depending on who wants to use it, i don't think thats practical unfortunately.

You can use a wireless connection on the xbox

Shame if not, it's a nice feature, but you should still do it the once to ftp across the new xbmc

If you want to wirelessly stream on the xbox you'll need a wireless bridge, then you just set it up as though it was wired

Alternatively, you can use Homeplugs which give a wired connection through your mains circuit (and you can move them around with your xbox).
