you may need to set up emule to take ed2k links. when installing there is a check box other then that i don't know. the new version of emule is userfriendly,

You could always copy and paste the links into emule's search box, then click on the file. It doesn't sort your problem but it's a workaround.

Taken from the eMule FAQ :
Quote:
eD2k web links are not added to eMule
If eD2k web links are not added to eMule when clicked on in the Internet Explorer, the special eD2k link format is not correctly associated. Check the eD2k Links button in Preferences -> General. If the button is inactive (greyed out) then some entries in Window's registry are messed up. Download this tool (by Resterampe) and remove the old association, then press the eD2k Link button again.

These registry entries are responsible for the web link format:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ed2k\shell\open\command
Name: (Standard)
Type: REG_SZ
Data: "Path to emule.exe(with quotes!)" %1

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ed2k\shell\open\command
same as above

Opera
Opera 7.2x and above
Run eMule. In Opera go to File -> Preferences -> Programs and paths -> Protocols and press the Add button. In the upcoming dialog enter ed2k in the Protocol field and the path to eMule automatically appears in the Open with default application. If it does not, the correct path to the eMule.exe will have to be provided in the Open with other application field.

Older Opera versions:
To allow weblinks to work from Opera, a configuration file in Opera's installation folder has to be edited. Quit Opera and open either one of the files in an editor, e.g. notepad.
Opera 6.x:
Add the line TrustedExternalURLProtocols=ed2k under [User Prefs] in the file Opera6.ini and safe it.
Opera 7.x:
For Opera 7.x add the same line in the file OperaDef6.ini.

Mozilla, Firefox
You will need a special plugin to associate different link formats like eD2k to the Mozialla or Firefox browser. Get mozex (alternate download link), open your browsers preferences and enter
path_to_eMule\emule.exe %r
in the eD2k edit box of the mozex plugin.

e.g.: C:\ProgramFiles\eMule\emule.exe %r

The quickest work around is to not click the links put to copy them and then paste them into eMule.

Quote:
Alternatively, rightclick onto a link, select "copy to clipboard" and then right click in eMule in the download area and select "Paste Links"

I am assuming that you've not explained yourself well, and that actually when you click a link it is added to your download list, you just not being patient enough to let it download?
Or are you saying that you click a link and nothing at all happens (ie. its not even sent to your emule client) like you suggested in your first post?

I'm not clear which one you mean, so you need to clarify that. That aside you should read all this:

If you can click a link, and this link is then added to emule download list then everything is fine. Waiting means just that, its waiting to get to the rank of 0 in a queue so it can begin downloading.

Emule needs to have a high id (this means it can communicate with the oustide world) and the downloads added need to turn blue.

Aslong as your isps does not throttle ports or traffic shape then your downloads will eventually start and they will download and then go green to indicate they have completed.

Servers are largely irrelevant, but order by number of users, select the "DonkeyServer" servers and add them to your static list (right click>add to static list). If you go to your preferences there's an option under something like connection to "Only connect to servers on my static list". It doesn't really matter, source exchange and KAD mean that server communication isn't overly important.

Then it is working perfectly fine, you are simply not being patient enough to allow it to download or leaving your emule client open long enough.

Leave your pc on 24/7, do not repeatedly open up and close down emule. This resets your queue status on other clients and you'll never get anywhere. This is vital for new users. You have no credits to your name, no upload, and therefore you are right at the bottom of everyones queue. Queue sizes are based upon the time you've been connected (hence why its vital to leave emule running 24/7, at least initially) and how much you upload.

Upload as much as possible, this will give you a queue boost. Capping your upload at about 80% of your lines upload capability is recommended.

Queue up more than one file (click about 10 files to download), more queues, more upload, more credits, more active downloads = the higher your going to be downloading overall.

once you have negotiated to the top of queues for files, and you develop upload credits on many other clients, you can then afford to close down emule and what not, but since your completely new to the network, if your closing down your application and not being patient your never going to get anywhere.

Emule isn't a leech network like kazaa, torrent, etc. Its why its the biggest p2p network on the planet, and why its been around so long.

A real problem would be:
a) if you click a link and it isn't added to your emule, which is what all the other people replying have been. If you have this problem, you need to associate emule with
b) you get to the front of queues, and the download begins, but never gets over 0.0Kb/s or your immediately dropped from a queue. This suggests firewalling, badly configured router, or your on a crap isp that tries to drop emule traffic.
c) the downloads don't go blue,. This is a network problem, either the file in question has no sources, or your firewalled/restricted by your isp
d) you get a lowid = firewall/router misconfigured.

I would recommend reconfiguring your setup to use ports other than the defaults. These can be changed in your preferences. Something higher like 9662 and 9672 is wiser.
