They need to be in a new file under the Userdata directory called sources.xml |
When did that change? They've always been under the My Videos section in xboxmediacenter.xml
I'll give it a go and see what the results are, cheers PC_A.

About 2 months ago now, and IMHO is a much better way of doing thigs, ALL user data is now in the userdata folder and shouldn't change from release to release.
There is no boxmediacenter.xml any more(!)

Makes sense. I had to modify the file for each new release before. Quote: | There is no xboxmediacenter.xml any more(!) |
There is on my machine.
But I guess it's redundant.
Is there an example sources.xml file anywhere?

There should be one included with the release you've downloaded

Got it sorted now.
Thought it still wasn't working, until I realised I had my bookmark inside a comment in the script.

The nzb spud posted is fucked
Quote: | MESSAGE FROM T3CH___________________________________________________________ Oops, sorry... I forgot to include English language in first build, fixed! This is the standard 'slim' build I've been releasing for a while now. I have updated 'Apple Movie Trailers' to version 0.91. This build is based on XBMC 2.0.0 sourcetree as found on Sourceforge. Other news is the added new 3D visualiser created by MrC. Great work! |
Use this one instead:

I'd like to upgrade to 2.0 but I'm not completely confident with fiddling around with my XBOX's file structure until I am sure of what I am doing.
Firstly, I'd like to change back to booting up the THC lite dash I used to use and not XBMC which is what I have now. Hopefully if something goes wrong with the XBMC install I'll still be able to boot it up.
I'm looking here: http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/ind ... _Dashboard for installation instructions which uses EvoX as its example. However, I'm not sure what file in C/ I need to be renaming to get back to THC Lite, since none of the ones there seem to represent XBMC which I am currently using as a dash.
This is what the C drive looks like now:
I'm fairly unsure about this, so any help is gratefully received.

If you followed PCA's softmod guide and have that version, your bios' are on the wrong drive. They aren't on C, they are on E in the dashboards folder so that's the dashboard stuff you need concern yourself with, not the files on c.
So you use the tool to create the .xbe link for the new aboxmedia center (now you don't have to drop the new .xbe in the dashboards folder each time, you just create a link and then will never have to do that again), as detailed in the readme file for whatever package you've got. You then drop this in the dashboard folder.
Then you replace the C:\apps\XboxMediaCenter with the new version, and delete the saved game files as also laid out in the readme.
There's a folder with your bookmarks in, just copy and paste the relevant bits from your old .xml

I've had it chipped since I did that softmod, so that must explain why it's in E. spudthedestroyer wrote: | So you use the tool to create the .xbe link for the new aboxmedia center (now you don't have to drop the new .xbe in the dashboards folder each time, you just create a link and then will never have to do that again), as detailed in the readme file for whatever package you've got. What about changing back to the THC dash first? How do I do that? And what "tool" are you referring to? I already have a default.xbe file downloaded from the link on the guide page I mentioned, is this what you are saying I need to create? spudthedestroyer wrote: | Then you replace the C:\apps\XboxMediaCenter with the new version, and delete the saved game files as also laid out in the readme. |
I have to delete my saves? The nfo I have doesn't mention this, it only has instructions for making XBMC 2.0 the default dash. I'd rather stay with the old version if it means losing all my game progess. Or do you mean something else? I have the GasGiver release of Oct 5th if that's any help. spudthedestroyer wrote: | There's a folder with your bookmarks in, just copy and paste the relevant bits from your old .xml |
You've lost me again, what bookmarks? For movies? In that case I don't have any, so I can skip this bit, yes?
Thanks for your help, but I'm still pretty unclear.

You need to get TSCH's distribution (which you should anyway really since its the best one), you can find a torrent/nzb/whatever pretty much anywhere. PirateBay if your stuck.
He includes a folder with the apps for creating a "fake" .xbe for the replacement dash (the one provided imposes a structure and notepad editing on you, the app does it all with a gui), i say "fake" because all it does is forward the dash onto the real .xbe which is in c:\apps\XBMC
The modchips work differently, depending on which chip you have it loads a different order of files so you just need to either tell it to load a specific dash or rename the "fake" xbe to the dash your replacing. You need to find out what chip you have then read how it boots, evox will boot evox.xbe, then msdash.xbe, then etc. So you'd rename evox.xbe to evox.xbe.bak and your "fake" file which points to your shortcut as evox.xbe. You need the name of the chip though, and you'll find the info on their homepage or in google about the xbe boot order iirc, you can even select from the xbox in a startup menu on some chips, but its totally down to the particular make/model as to how you do it.
So i suggest you get a better distribution, T3CH includes the app and the readme tells you how to delete the save games for XBMC and how to transfer your old settings from xboxmediacenter.xml which is now redundant in 2.0. Its very simple to update if you've got something already installed (v1.0 or whatever), just overwrite. The problem you have is that your dash file is something different and that's dependant on what your modchip is set to load by default. I'd have thought it was on c:\ called the chip you have.
Confusion has arisen because your posting a modchip specific question in the softmod thread, your wanting the massive xbox thread:
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic. ... light=xbox
Then again that's about softmodding too, but its a lot more generic processes that this thread
ps. Why did you install a modchip if you've already softmodded?
edit: infact, *split* + *merge*

actually, just read 3:
http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/ind ... _Dashboard
There's some boot orders for popular chips, find yours, look for the backup you made of THC Lite and restore it to what it was original.
What did you rename THC Lite .xbe to when you set XBMC as your dash? default.bak? xboxdash.bak? just restore it and it will come back.
For the softmod (PCA's) the default is e:\dashboards\xboxdash.xbe . So I just rename that to xboxdash.bak, put my shortcut in the same directory as e:\dashboards\xboxdash.xbe and then that launches into c:\apps\XBMC\default.xbe which will be XBMC 2.0
If you can't remember what you called THC Lite backup, just cheese it and do a straight upgrade of xboxmediacenter.
First create your shortcut using the tool, and call it whatever your chip needs to bootup first from.
1. startup your xbox
2. copy across all the xbmc files to the right directory c:\apps\XBMC ?
3. delete the saved games as instructed in the README.txt file.
4. Reboot and your done
You probably won't need to change the xml files unless you've got something to port over, but open them up in notepad and have a look.
Little point switching to THC Lite temporarily, especially if you can't remember where you put the files

I've no idea what chip I have, presumably the only way to tell is to open the case (and that's not something I'll be doing) since there is no info in any of the dashes.
There is XBMC-CVS_2006-10-03-T3CH on Pirate Bay, so I'll get that and use it instead of the GasGiver one I have now.
Looking at option 3 on that page it seems that most boot from evoxdash.xbe, so I could maybe guess at that one. The shortcut I create needs called evoxdash.xbe and should go in e:\dashboards\, is that right? And that shortcut points to c:\apps\XBMC\default.xbe which loads XBMC 2.0 yes?
In e:\dashboards\ now I have default.xbe, default.xbe.old and unleashx.xbe.
But why do I need to delete game saves? Can't I back them up and put them back in if all is okay?

Hang on, before you do anything. Stop. Before you render your xbox unbootable.
ALL you have to do is replace the current XBMC (proabley in C:\apps ) with the new version.
If you want it to boot straight to XBMC, that's another issue altogether, but first, just copy the new version over the old version

Okay, I'm stopped!
I have my XBOX booting XBMC on startup at the moment, can I still overwrite the old one with 2.0 then?

yep, you don't really have to do anything above overwriting the old version (unless it plays up in which case you need to delete the XBMC save)
