I just recieved a warning from my ISP for downloading or sharing Friday The 13th part 4. I removed the file. I could not download the file because I kept getting these coruption errors. I think this is lame. The ISP is giving me crap for downloading a movie that nobody even cares about. Do you think it will be ok to still download rare movies like cannibal apocalypse or other video nasties.

Im from the U.S. and I am cancelling my account with comcast. If I can't download, I don't need internet. I'll go with dial-up. Less bandwidth, but I won't be downloading.

No, this is probably the case because a) it's paramount, they'd change their name to 'dick up mpaas chairmans ass' if they could b) they are in the process of rereleasing the terrible films

That's why i assume you got the message at this point in time. You should have e-mailed them back and said they should be paying you for watching such shit

I don't know what you all want. The RIAA is a nice organisation. See for yourself:
I love the RIAA

Yes we all know how great the RIAA are, I know everyone loves them to bits, unfortunately it's the MPAA in this case :(

:D

Ok ok, I know. But do you this nice little film? It fits nice in here I think. Even for the main page. So stop nitpicking and watch :-)

their going to nit pick about old movies is pretty lame. this is why i liked edonkey is because you can get these old rare horror movies off of here. you can't find any of these movies anywhere. if their concerned about losing money, than they should have these movies in the video stores instead of the newer stupid movies.
there are other isp services like verizon dsl, but they are cracking down as well

I used to get those copyright infringment warnings from my old provider all the time and they would sometimes name a specific movie title, I wouldn't really worry about it.

Its funny that you can record a movie off tv, but you can't download it. What do they make vhs tapes for? Why do vcrs have a record button on them for?

hehe
i think i am leading in the most threatening letters from antip2p people, as it is closing in on 50, almost all for older movie from the 80's and dvd rips of tv shows. getting something that was ripped from television isnt exactly illegal in most places, but a dvdrip or vhs rip of a marketed one is. i think they switched tactics for screeners, going after the sources.

do you use a firewall? most firewalls log all the connections, if u have the log of when you had the file you could try to narrow down which was the sneaky antip2p company and send it to peer guardian. its hard work if u dont know enough details.

try running peer guardian and see if you get any hits on it. it takes up a shitload of cpu use, but if you get like 100 hits a minute, you know they are really fucking with you.

the laws in the usa are starting to become slightly more p2p friendly, though the mpaa is suposed to start thier wave of lawsuits rather soon.

use a mod with ip filters, update them. get a firewall that you can add ip blocklists to. sygate can update easily from pguardians site, uses a fraction of what peerguardian cpu uses.

you crazy europe people are up for the lawsuits(or even prison) soon,
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/33267.html

is the ominous clouds for it.

i doubt small scale/just swapping the occasional movie with some buddies will be molested by the mpaa, more likely they will target the bigger ones. but hell, who knows, they could target everybody for anything if they can make money in a lawsuit for each shared movie.

Its like Friday the 13th part 4 is going to make Paramount rich.
Paramount needs to worry more about making better Friday the 13th movies. There hasn't been a good one in 20 years.

there are quite a few levels/reasons why the riaa/mpaa do what they do. it doesnt matter if the movie was 'manos-hands of fate' or some other shitflick from 20 years ago, by not taking action/suing people who get these things from p2p they will have weaker cases when going after people who share the big movies. if they dont have clear cut legal precident a judgment may not go thier way. that, and they are greedy bastards.

there are reasons why some movies dont get to other countries, why some are pimpout with nonstop commercials/trailors, and why some get no mention at all. movies and music are perhaps the most effectibe way of influencing societies, steering peoples likes/dislikes/way of thinking into whatever the people controlling this media want. if these things are made available to everybody, everywhere, at anytime, they loose a rather important power to guide trends and control ideas.

ahh, i could bitch all day, so i;ll stop before it spins out of controll into a 30 page essay on why people suck.
