Quote: | "Legend has it that one particularly nasty scene in House On The Edge of the Park was excised from all videocassette releases but included in the U.S. theatrical version released by Bedford Distribution in 1985. As described in the ever-reliable Gore Gazette and by independent producer George (100 proof) Maranville, the offending clip showed Alex pulling a tampon out of captive girl's panties and exclaiming, "Look what I found!" |
So is this scene still missing from all published releases ?

I've not even heard of that scene. Maybe cos this film was rejected for a theatrical release in the UK.

This is a good example of what I was saying about AFR a couple of weeks ago. While this rip is superior to the old one in a numer of ways (a better codec, correct use of mono), I get the impression it is considered to have superseded the old rip because it is AFR, which poses the question, all other things equal would an NTSC AFR be considered superior to a PAL TDX? Not in my opinion.

I just finished downloading this rip, because I thought it would be of better quality than this one: ed2k: The.House.on.the.Edge.of.the.Park.avi [634.60 Mb] [ Stats]
When I compare the two, the rip from this thread has brighter colours, but it also has worse de-interlacing and far worse sound (it sounds like people are in the bathroom all the time, talking). Also the image seems to be a bit stretched vertically, but it could also be that the image from the rip I posted in this reply was cropped.
What I want to know is: how about that image? What was it like on the DVD?
Other question: I had higher expectations of this rip, this being a PAL DVD and such. I'm still busy downloading DVDrips of some other nasties, but I don't feel like waiting for something with worse sound, like in this rip.

Talking about de-interlacing:
Spud... what kind of deinterlacing method (whilst ripping on Gordian) do you recommend?

I thought I should clarify this just in case there are those that don't know. It's the 32,000 Hz that is the problem, it should be 48,000. 64k/s mono is fine, it's not uncommon for rippers to waste space with a 128k/s stereo track (ie 64k per channel) or even AC3 for a mono movie.

No it wouldn't. The DVD is mono, 128k/s stereo is 64k per channel therefore 128k stereo would be wasting bandwidth by storing the same information twice. This is why TDX rules would nuke a stereo rip of a mono movie.

The dvd source is ntsc and it's an non-progressive interlaced fucking mess. Yes the audio at 32000 is off a bit. I wish PAL was the source.
