What starts off as almost a sequel to Warhol's 1963 film
Sleep is ultimately a meandering portrait of the filmmaker's then-current Girl of the Year, proto-Superstar, and the only member of Warhol's vast and bizarre menagerie of exhibitionists to pass into the realm of genuine legend not long after she passed into the beyond in 1971. Throughout
Poor Little Rich Girl's 67 minute running time, Edie awakens, talks on the phone, gabs with people off-camera, and tries to pick out something to wear; eventually settling on a slinky, cream-colored number. One can only surmise that Warhol, upon seeing the results of this film (the first half of which is out of focus . . . do not adjust your sets; it was shot this way) saw the potential for . . . something else; thereby setting the stage for that searing narcissist's nightmare, 1965's
