No, bad luck...
The disks were from a batch of 20 disks. so I got lucky with 3 bad ones, which also happened to be in the same raid 6 array.

COMEBACK, it was only a harmless joke!!!!

That was me on ubuntu, checking to see if i can view the disk. Unfortunately ubuntu needs you to boot with the hdd in and it fails with an i/o error on the disk.

Someone said knoppix is pretty good at looking onto a disk?

DAMN! Looks like I have another HDD failure. The primary master in my multimedia machine has just died as it seems. They're dropping like flies. :matrix:

maxtor?

Seems there's been a heat issue because of this defragger, my northbridge heat sink shat it's-sen so I've had to fix it. Essentially a pin blew off the motherboard since it was levered down. Put some more thermal paste on, and now have the case on its side, stable again. Hopefully it will reduce the airflow.

Going to reformat my NAS to RAID 1 and i'll look at some migration between pcs.

btw, since we are talking hdd, anyone found any nice storage solution for keeping the hdd clean and out of trouble when not in use? Can't find anywhere to acquire seashell's properally.

Nope, it was one of my older ones, almost four years. But at least I got mail from Seagate today that a refurbished 300 gig HDD is on its way for the one I sent back the other day. So all in all it could have been a worse day.
