but i did experience the 6pm-12am throttle thing for a week or two about 5 months ago but it`s been perfect since then

6 weeks & counting now, I'm getting really tired of this, I'm 3 months off ending this contract & having rung to cancel, their well trained bunch of monkeys told me tough shit, shoulda cancelled when they took over & I'm stuck unless I wanna pay them for the 3 months to cancel

Where abouts in the country do you live BadBugs?

I though that the throttling was limited to 2 areas of the country, have Virgin confirmed that's what it is?

The other problem you're going to face is that there's no one any better, they're all useless :(

The state of ISP's in this country is a joke, the sooner they stop all this "unlimited" bollocks and actually spell out what they do and don't let you do the better.

Virgin throttleing was quite limited according to the tech support newsgroups. People have been experiencng some pretty poor speeds overall, but it seems to be getting better now. I think some of it was them merging parts of the network.

The ex-NTL network wa pretty ropey to start with, and now they are abusing the ex-TW trying to balance shit out.

Personally I don't give a fuck cos none of it affected me.

Oh and yeah, cable is still the best quality AFAIK, far superior to anything I could get via ADSL.

Dunno johnathome, but a few of my groups have gone and been replaced with others, but these were tech support for TW/VM.

No idea if they have had any other kind of shake up.

I'm currently in the process of moving towns and going to be living by the sea for the summer (6 months)

Can't be without broadband though but all ISP'S I've looked into offer 12 month contracts only.

Does anyone know a decent UNLIMITED ISP that doesn'y tie you in for 12 months :(

Or a way round it?

If all else fails I'll have to take a 12 month with a decent ISP and just pay the remaining 6 months I suppose :?

This 12 months contract bullshit should be banned
1 suggestion is that you sign up with an isp, then cancel in your cooling off period, switch to another & another & another LOL
There must be someone who does it on a monthly basis? I did read something about someone doing it but that was a long time ago & I cant remeber who it was or where I read it. Not a lot of help here, but if you do find something, please let us know

Yeah BadBugs.....it sucks!

The closest I can find is some unknown ISP's that claim to be contract free but if you read the T&C's - if you cancell before 12 months you have to pay sommething like £70-£90 cancellation charge

I don't want any equipment or discounted call packages etc.....just a decent speed broadband connection that I can cancel anytime after 6+ months

I've heard good things about Be, I was supposed to switch over to them in December 2005 but they weren't in my area until Mid-2006 and by then I signed up to BullDog.... whose internet services are OK but their Billing and Customer Services are horrible

Hopefully the exchange will work out fine for you :beerchug:

Well BT the f*ckwits have f*cked up the simple task of turning on a second line and instead the tools have split the existing line.

Prats.

All BT employee's need lining up and shooting, and then we need to take off and nuke the entire site from orbit... its the only way to be sure :wacky:

When BT fix their mess i'll contact Be.

A good plan SPud, nukes from orbit sounds like the most viable solution.

and BT out do themselves, I had to phone up and they had cancelled the order. No one had told them to do it, and I certainly didn't want it doing... no one had even bothered to inform me. I'm wondering if the f*ckwit of an engineer did it to cover up his botched job?

Well I phoned up, talked to one shrub who passed me onto a person. I explained the situation and gave all the possible information they could need, and expressed I wanted my second phone line activated. Well she needed to ask someone how to do it, and then some time later she came back and said the line was ceased and that it would be full cost to wire it up. So I asked how that happened and she said that some of the wiring was missing... err, interesting since I could see the wire myself to the telegraph pole and had the bloody connecter box in my hand at the time :?

So either they've fucked up and they've messed up the connection at the exchange, squirrels have amassed and killed the wire, or the employee's really have no clue what's going on.

So no second phone line for me.

I'm on 2MB @ £30 a month, but I'm under a year's contract at that price (which finishes in a couple of months). The main reason for changing from Bulldog, is that they don't appear to offer ADSL Max 8MB on my line, even though it's capable.

I'm now going thru this same problem now, I just rang up Bulldog and was told the exact same thing.

So I basically need a new decent ISP with good speeds and no/tolerable-ish FUP....

Any ideas, suggestions or recommendations?

Actually, when I rang them up they said they could offer 8MB on my line, so I guess I can stay put. :)
