Yeah, the seasonal horror trends are so fickle.

Come next year, it'll be back to yer traditional campsite/machete encounters, then an ironic, double retro, suburban slasher season followed by the parasite/infected/urban paranioa thing.

They tend to be better than slasher movies anyway

This sounds so like Jacob's Ladder even the lead character has the same name. Might be worth a watch

And there's a remake of The Crazies on the go at the moment anyway isnt there. Romero's is brilliant. Doubt the remake will be a patch as usual.
