The "soft" version is actually the original director's cut before the Americans made him add all the gore so I think I'm actually going to watch this one first!

Director's shouldn't always be trusted to know what's best, the checkmate for such situations is to drop the G-bomb: George Lucas

Americans? I think producers will suffice. Anyway, the director's cut is quite boring in my opinion.

Don't forget about Blade Runner.. at least in my opinion, director's cut suck big time if you are looking for an action packed movie

Director's Cut was wwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the dreadful theatrical cut. The commentary was bloody awful, its one of the single worst abominations in the history of cinema.

I can't disagree with you more adimently; the harrison ford commentary is terrible and the theatrical version is an awful piece of cinema history. I can't believe you've just dropped such a complete artist skull-f*ck of a claim on us

I have the LDrip version of the original and that is purely for collector's sake, it is diabolically bad and an utter travesty that i will never watch again. The director's cut on the other hand is a brilliant piece of directing, and a much more solid film.

Ridley Scott's Director's Cut is much better. Sorry, but I didn't forget that, in fact, in that case your providing evidence for fiersky's side not mine. ;) And bloody good evidence that director's know more than the editors. Another example would be Terry Gilliam's cut of Brazil. The studio edit was terrible. Similar, you can use Fincher's Alien3 (still not available, but the more restored version clearly proves the director's point of view much more).

However, my rebuttal in those cases is your dealing with bloody good directors.

I knew I was going to cause this kind of reaction LOL...!

On the other hand I agree with the Brazil cut!

But the Blade Runner DVD version.. I dont know i kinda dislike it, and the LD Version i find it way better... anyhow.. in tastes genres are broken ;)

hehe.. but you honestly like, let alone tolerate, the harrison-drone-a-thon? That dry and lifeless performance (which in all fairness was given under duress because he found the entire concept of adding it moronic apparantly) was nausiating

Perhaps the motive I liked the other one better was because the movie was "annonced" as an action film (aside from being sci-fi), so what i was expecting was of course more action, not character work etc.
I don't know, perhaps I ask just about too much to hollywood, (due to the fact that making a film is overpriced) so I expect it to absolutely blow me away in terms of quality, expectations and "Action" (in this case).

However when I watched this film in VHS the first time, I felt it a great movie (which of course was the theatrical version, that was being on rental during those times here in Mexico), so, when the dvd came out (which by the way were one of the first dvds to come out to the market) I was expecting waaaay to much, a lot more action and not too many differences, I felt they toned down a bit the action and exagerated the character work thus making the film more like the book (i think, I havent read the book  )

I don't know if the MPAA ripped them because it was an indepedent film but man... this movie was lame.. I expected so much more. Lots of nice shots but the story went no place really quick.

The Cut / Fade to Blacks where so anoying I was grinding my teeth watching it.. There was about 10 people in the theatre on opening night.. Of course they released against Harry Potter which wasnt too bright..

No nudity, No Swearing ? No TITS ? What kind of horror movie is missing the main 3 B elements ??

Too much hype surrounding this film. Just wait for the next SAW feature.
