Less boring than Hostel for sure, but not a good flick; just a decent film, with some beautiful landscapes, a couple of gory scenes and too many slow moments...

wolf creek is better than this, but again that movie was like in the limit of what you can stand from a horror movie before it actually starts looking like a horror movie...it's not easy to build a horror movie with that pace, in that aspect both wolf creek and turistas are alike, while turistas rely on the culture shock cheese (if you speak portuguese the movie will make you laugh out loud a couple of times and leave an overal cheesy taste for good and for bad, all about the horrible acting and dumb dialogue) and landscapes... wolf creek has a solid screenplay when it comes to character development and interation (?!?), and it didnt bother me that I was watching it for like an hour before the events take place , also I totally dug that misleading aspect of the script near the beginning of the terror (ET?)... the realistic portrait of the killer (even though it was based on a real story they could like make a hulky monster ouf of him) was very refreshing and frightening, the kills had a balance between graphinc realistic violence, sadism and impact, the movie turned out to be a pretty nice slasher in my opinion...
The realistic way violence is shown in both movies is another aspect I enjoy sometimes, both turistas and wolf creek had nasty gunshots , stabbings, rock/stick/etc hits and that kind of stuff put to very good use... and when you don't have that onscreen for like 10minutes it's even more effective, adds to the brutality in my opinion when you quickly cut to the attacks ala 28...later (again... sometimes, in both this movies for example)
that's about it... had this free time to kill
