Where did I go?

I don't have the illusion that you people actually missed me, but since I want to have that feeling, I'm opening this thread.

Just before I went on vacation for a week, my connection got lost. After having phoned my ISP about this problem, having gone on and returned from vacation, having waited for over a month, I got a telephone call today from a technical department guy at my ISP's office.

He told me to fiddle with some wires in the wallcontactbox, or whatever you call that in English. He tol me that he couldn't see my modem online anyway I put the wires. Then he told me it would be fixed by the end of this week, info I received with the necessary skepticism, as I had talked to over 10 different people, promising me everything about my connection, but still getting nothing. After the call I put back the wires the way they were and to my stunning surprise my modem started to reconnect.

And now I'm back. Ain't life sweet on some moments...

In the meantime I have watched nearly a hundred movies, I almost completed Doom I which I downloaded just prior to the loss of my connection and I ripped two Arkoff movies for my future collection.

i hate tech support people, i had to tell them how to fix my net connection. If it were anyone who didn't work in computing like i do, i doubt they'd have ever got a connection following the monkey's advice

Yup, I know what you mean. Sometimes they talk to you like you own a "my first Sony" type of PC, while in fact I have fixed the problem myself in this case (OK, I think I wouldn't have found it myself, but I DID fix it myself).

I have been home most of the time my connection was lost, but I have also been on vacation in a hotel, top floor. Great room.

No holiday for me this year. My work is very dependant on weather conditions, we have been bobarded with wind and rain, the only conditions that stop us working.
