I didn't know which forum to post this in so I decided to post it here:

Sometime in the mid80s I saw a movie on a local late night horror hosts program ("Big Chuck & Little John" to be specific) and I cannot remember the name.

It had cheesy special effects and horrible acting but I still liked it. I only have a vague recollection of the plot so here it goes:

A group of students (3? 4?) goes to the country to (?) [visit their professor, camp out, other?] and find a copy of the Necronomicon. They open a portal to another dimesion where they encounter various monsters--the only one I remember specifically is a giant caveman in a green body suit complete with zipper up the back. The caveman was shot in forced perspective to make him look huge.

The was also a stop-motion hybrid-snake/dragon/lady-thing if I am remebering correctly. And some sort of generic devil creature.

One of the students had a misguided lust for power and kept trying to seize the book for himself. Fortunately, he was a bit of bumbler and there was much hot-potato played with the book being passed back and forth between the hero and the villain as they all ran from the monsters. The also might have been a bit of business with a magical necklace-I don't remeber that clearly.

There were also many scenes of people stepping sideways behind a blue-screen special effects curtain so as to appear to be poppong in and out of the strange dimension.

Does any one else remember this movie? Any clues as to where I could look find its title or a copy of it?
