I scouted around and all there are vhs -> dvdrs which i'm guessing is the case here? :( Shame really they don't source the oldies :(

How did the encodes look at 1/6th dvdr? Is there any chance i could persuade you to try a few samples at that if you've still got the source DVDR. I don't tend to go for the bigger files on sub-dvd content unless its pushing 3hrs :)

If you've not already, try jawors 1cd and a deblocker, its a very good matrix and by reducing the resolution a tad it will probably be able to hold up for a movie of this length.

I did use jawors plus convolusion 3d....If i fuck with the res it will throw off the AR though.I can understand why you don't wnat to waste your bandwidth on a subpar source....that is your decision...I don't think I'll be rippign this again any time soon though....you know the backlog we already have Spud.

Aye but all those films suck, this one might be a 0-star according to the arsehole Roger Ebert, but its pretty rare.

Might have to find a dvdr of it somewhere and see if i can get a smaller rip out of it :)

So out of the whole collection of films we got in limbo they all suck except this one?!? :o
If you want to waste your money and time making another rip of it then go ahead...kind of ridiculous considering your bandwidth though..not really sure on why you are so conservative with it....I click on plenty of films that could have been done in a 745 mb format but to me...at least....it all gets finished and once it's burned I could care less about the size.If you are REALLY in a fit about this then fine...I'll rip it again and reduce the res and filesize and give you a Xmas present. After that I am done with it.
This whole experience has really left a bad taste in my mouth though.
Silly me...I thought people would actually appreciate the rip. I guess I was wrong(Which wouldn't be the first time)

Is this any good? I agree with spud that VHS quality rips don't "deserve" an AFR. If this movie is good I might get spud's xmas present. :wacky:

This can't be the best image quality available for the uncut version, can it? It's like a pirate VHS from 1981!

Are there really no DVD releases for this? What about the UK VHS from the Warner 'Maverick Directors' collection, wasn't that the uncut UK version?

I blame the Pope.

i think heaver @ fh said he has a digital tv rip. I'll ask if he can provide some linkage, or if i can get it shared :)

@dxa, its purely because:
1) storage space is about twice what to me seems appropriate, so i'd have to re-encode which means even more quality loss on something that look awful
2) bandwidth is bigger for something i'd spend time then re-encoding into a different format.
3) because i have to re-encode which is bad, bad, bad

I'll see if i can source something a bit better quality, i appreciate the rips and everything (no need for the "its free" argument), but I'm just saying its a tad too much even for me with all my badnwidth at that filesize, at that quality :)

That's all :)

Well, like I said I am making a smaller sized rip for you...I'll try some different filters..maybe that might clean it up a bit more....I know that I did it for Nosferatu in Venice and that came out looking great...albeit another afr though...you see..at least for me....I would rather overdue it then under due it...I got WAY to many substandard rips in my collection as it is...so when I get a rare one I tend to, as I said, overdue it...and then when the film is over an hour 40 my usual rule is to make a 2cd (or a 1/3 DVD actually) anyways....another reason I did it big is because I didn't want to degrade an already spotty source...that is just my thinking was all....maybe that will make a few people understand where I am coming from with my big bloated rips
But like I said, I am doing the smaller one for those that would rather have that...I already got this rip shared and lots of people are on it already so I'll just supplement this rip with that one so the others that are already on it don't get the carpet jerked from them by me pulling it.
As far as when it will be done..I got 2 movies in line before it right now on my que list to encode so give it a day or so.
Although if Heaver comes up with that digital source I'd sure like to have that. Not sure why, if there was a broadcast, why there isn't a better quality source available...you would think the boot markets would upgrade with that source or at least someone would have made a rip and released it by now. :(
