The Invasion - not too bad, watchable, but why bother when the originals were much better. Nicole looked nice though
Shoot 'Em Up - Not horror, but great, cheesy fun and Monica was a sweetie in this one.
But both those movies pale into insignificance as I put BBC1 on afterward and Carry On Camping was on. Best laugh I've had in ages, I haven't seen it for 20 years or so - superb. Sid James was driving a Zephyr ffs, my old man had one of those when I was a kid.

Carry on Camping is a classic. Gutted I missed it.
The Invasion I have yet to watch, although I have a copy. It is stuck in limbo at the moment because the wife wants to watch it too.

I thought 30 Days… was a bit of a disappointment, myself. The actiony bits were great, but very 28 Days Later. I have a Josh Hartnett problem anyway, so I'm probably biased.
Recent watchings:
Saw 2: Silly, funnish.
Dusk til Dawn 3: Michael Parks as Ambrose Bierce fighting vampires. Woohoo!
No country for old men: Slow, but very good. Coen Bros Good Stuff.
Eastern Promises: Not bad, but I lost interest entirely about halfway through.
Dracula: The first of the Hammer ones, from 1958. Great stuff altogether. I think I might have to take a vamp-break, since there've been an awful lot of them in my life lately.
I'm also reading a book called Dracula: Asylum, in which Sherlock Holmes is sort of involved.
Vampvampvampvampvamp.

Cloverfield
First thing I have to say is that this movie almost made me sick with motion sickness. Not to the point where I threw up, but it felt like lead in my stomach when I left the theatre. That is not a good thing. If you complained about Blair Witch, do not watch this movie, by any means. BWP had like 3 scenes where they run and many set-ups and static shots and this movie was all running after the 20 minute mark or so. I really didn't expect to be bitching about this, but it really bears warning.
Other than that, it was a fun, street level Godzilla-type movie. The characters were fleshed out well enough before disaster strikes that you care about them in the havok ensues. The gimmick of a single tape story is used very cleverly. The monster is pretty cool with a few surprises. The acting was good except one woman seemed a little wooden. When I left the theatre it was probably a 7.5/10 and if they had used steady cams and faked the shake of handheld it would probably be a 8.5 or a 9. Overall, I would go 8/10.

Platoon - I really felt like watching a Vietnam film, and this is one of those which I hadn't watched for a long time. I really enjoyed it. Again.

La Caduta degli Dei aka The Damned - wow, impressive (non-horror) movie about a German family slowly succumbing to nazi rule during the 1930s. Great acting, a heavy atmosphere and some sick edges to the story make this a complete experience. Recommended.

Sweeney Todd. Not bad, actually. Much better than I thought it would be.
One problem though, why does the music in musicals have to be shit? Surely there's a way around that. Performances were great, but the tunes… It's like pantomime music and jars quite spectacularly with Johnny Depp's nasty grimaces.
I liked his Michael Caine impression though.

Watched Reservoir Dogs for the millionth time last night. It's still brilliant, and only serves to further illustrate how crap Death Proof was…

Hookers in a Haunted House - very, very bad, but everybody working on the movie knows that: they hint at it regularly and very obviously. Bad film , not funny when trying to. Only for the die hard bad movie fan.
Vampires vs Zombies - with a title like this I expected a war, or at least a fight, between these two types of creatures. Nothing of the sort is in this film. This is also a very bad movie, more really bad because nobody knows they're in a bad movie.
Spoiler: |
The movie is about vampires for 95% of the time. In the end the zombies appear en masse for the first time, and then they win. Huh?

Night After Night After Night (1969): Ugh not good. A very transparent
thriller/slasher that never really got off the ground. You can guess the
killer way too early in the film. Besides the nudity, there is nothing else
much to the film.
Roadgames (1981): Oh so good! I kinda forget how well written horror/
thriller movies can be. Stacy Keach as a well versed truck driver and Jamie
Lee Curtis as a hitchhiker (wasn't she a hitchhiker in The Fog?) work very
well together in this movie. I recommend it.

I forgot to add this: the silicone breasts of the main hooker play such a big role in this film, that it's a shame they go uncredited.
Other moviesw watched recently:
Future Hunters - Indiana Jones rip-off with Terminatorguy (whatshisname) and lots of different creatures, among which are nazis, mongols and dwarfs. Mindless fun, nothing else.
Razortooth - when watching this film, you might realize that you really don't like CGI, as I did. Some gory kills by the monster eel, but all in all this is a very predictable flick. If the ending is surprising for you, this must be the first horror you ever saw.

Ach, yik, euch!
Zombies Gone Wild — I managed about ten minutes of this utter crapfest before I had to start skimming through looking for breasts, blood or anything at all worth sitting in front of the screen for. Perhaps they're there, but it wasn't worth finding out.

I warned you for that one
Special Train for Hitler aka Love Train for SS - nazisploitation done differently. No torture camp, instead you get a spanking train. Which is nice, for a change.
Countess Draculas Orgy of Blood - wow, bad! Lots of tits, an invisible storyline and some very wooden acting.

Recently I watched:
Assault On Precinct 13 (1976): No horror movie from John Carpenter, but very good. Highly recommended thriller in which detainees must join forces with a police officer to protect their precinct from a gang that swore a blood oath to destroy it.
Manhunter (1986): Until it was posted on this site I didn't know that Red Dragon (2002) was only a remake. This movie was quite nice. William Petersen was way better than Edward Norton (in the remake) if you ask me.
Manos: The Hands Full Of Shit (ooops, sorry The Hands Of Fate - 1966): Did you know that the guy who played Torgo the servant in this movie committed suicide in 1966? Maybe it was because of watching the movie they had done. Simply terrible. It's hard to call this piece of crap a movie anyway. As far as I can see none of the actors/acresses have appeared in any other movie after this one. If you watch, you'll know why. And no, they didn't commit suicide. I must admit that it was worse than - my former shittiest movie ever seen - "Shapeshifter (2005)".

AvP Requiem - the R3 rip is pretty good. The film isn't. After all I read about it, it was better than I expected, but I expected nothing more than utter shit. The references to the original movies were sometimes funny, sometimes far-fetched. Humans are mere characters who just block the way for the aliens and predator. I was surprised to see only one predator, but I think it did the movie good. Mindless fun, mildly enjoyed. I might keep it, I might delete it. Not sure.
