Well now that I have 1MB broadband I can be more broad in my choice of edonkey clicks.
And always wanted to get into the anime scene.
So recently have tried finding sites/info but it's a bit of a nightmare.
Been on animereactor etc but they don't seem to have/discuss good animes.
Basically I'm looking to see what are the good films/TV series to start off with and any "newbie" websites giving info on anime.
Coz if some-one came here saying that they'd never seen a zombie film and which were the definitive ones and the good ones, we'd all be able to help 'em out.
Sharereactor has tonnes of anime and with animereactor it's not getting them thats the problem, it's knowing which ones to click.
5/6 years ago I was quite into anime :-
Oedo 808 Police, bubblegum crisis, Akira, Fist of the North Star, Orutsudakushu (oe what ever it's called), 3x3 eyes, Vampire Hunter D, Ranma 1/2 etc etc etc etc
And i'm not just talking about the horror ones but all types of anime.
Anyway, have gone on enough. I'll just read up on it myself and start clicking, but would appreciate any help guys!
cheers

Well what is there to recommend ?
If you've seen the CUT-BY-HALF-AN-HOUR-FOR-GROCE-DEMONIC-MULTIPLE-PENIS-TENTACLE-RAPE scenes UROTSUKIDOJI, then you have already seen the by far most infamous...
Mind you the first was a trilogy, Uro.2 was a same time different place spin off on 2 45 min tapes, Uro 3 went on were 1 left in 4 parts, and the awfull 4 (milking the cow) came on 2 tapes...(word goes the british cencors were SHOCKED - Me having all of them uncut on tapes )
You sure you've already seen :
Ghost in the shell ( rival to balde runner -you'll need to watch that twice at least - It's full of philosophy)
Ninja scroll - ( blades vs various demon blade masters - awesome, still best in it's kind)
Wicked city (that opening sex scene with that spider woman HAS GOT TO BE A CLASSIC ANIME SCENE (prayer eat you dick out )
Vampire hunter D is also decent....(edit : oops you already mentioned you saw it)
These had all horror elements.....
But really ....there is Soooooooooooo much stuff we don't even know of, you wouldn't believe what weird shit I downed from kazaa in my early dsl days....
A lot of it has sexual content.....
and then there's the legendary Robotech/ macross...( remember those goddamn early in the morning on Super channel jap cartoon that looked cooler than transformers !)
I still need to get Neon Evagelion sage...but bandwidth kept me from it frankly...
Summarised there is more out there than you'll ever download.....
Good luck.....you'll need it.....
EDIT : Say , is there a demand for horror manga collection ?

I've really tried to like manga/anime but I never know what to download and a lot of it has been crap.
I guess I just like the artwork, although the obvious Akira is brilliant.
Blood: TLV is good, but a bit boring, and apart from that I only got Vampire Hunter D (dubbed) and the voice acting in that was terrible [and I thought character design was shit].
So I'm interested in knowing any decent anime too

Don't tell me YOU, haven't seen " Ghost in the shell" yet ?
OUTRAGEOUS :x And you had a serious interset in the artistic side of movies....
GitS RIVALS BLADE RUNNER .....NO BULL......I read somewhere you 're into sf as well....now find a link and down it on the double
You're not allowed to respond to this arrogant response of me until you do......
Serious, you'll thank me for it .....
I t may be too complex for those who are on a TROMA flick diet though.......
GHOST IN THE SHELL !!!!! <------- #1 Recommendation
the story of a state of the art android working for section 9, national security agent, who finds herself daunted by the "puppetmaster", who can hack anything or ANYONE(!!!)'s brain; along events she questions her own essence....and what is sentience....? Only this uncornered thing called "ghost" is what seperates man from machines......
DAMMIT !!! SEE IT !!! Philosophy wise it pisses in the face of matrix .... :!: :!: :!:

Apart from the most famous ones I really liked 'Kite'. So damn brutal.
'Hellsing' is amazing IMO.
'Blood: The Last Vamp' also very good.

What is your problem with 'Perfact Blue'? It is not great, no horror, but still a very good story.

Overfiend series..definatley overfiend..I got the 5 tape bundle that has a bit more in it than the dubbed version does.Seems after that movie was made demon fucking became commonplace in Japan.

Well after giving it some thought, there really isn't that much GOOD anime horror out there....
You have those piss poor Urotsukidoji Wannabees "Demon beast invasion" and "Shuten doji " crap....
there is Devil man wich has some decent but aging (1987)art but avoid the sequel......there's recently a devil lady released too...no idea quality...
Pet shop of horrors I have mixed feelings for .....the occasional episode yessssssss.....but most....nah.....
I nearly fell asleep during Blood:last vampire.....he , well drawn and all but....zzzzzzzzzzz......
Hey why did everyone forget Sprigram, or spigram , or spirrgan or whatever the F it's spelled ? that flick kicked too
Finally , ninja scroll supposedly has a spin off series "NINJA Resurrection" ; I have the pilot on tape....Man it rocks......
Oh paul, you really kicked over an ant hill.....

Actually I don't think there is good anime horror at all. Sorry, but drawn pictures simply cannot cause 'horror feelings' in me. It just does not work. But this does not mean those films are bad. I see them more as some sort of drawn 'outer limits'.

OK, psoted this from work and have been out for the evening!
WOW
What a response!
Cheers guys you've really got me interested in downloading some anime, which was just what i was asking for.
Something to spark my interest
Obviously some horror ones would be good, but I always kinda liked the Akira style ones with robots or a sci-fi future.
I'll put a night aside to do some link surfing and get some of these.
Keep em coming though - PLEASE
