Ok guys, this is my first rip ever. English dialogue.

It's a little gem I ran across called "The Demon" starring Cameron Mitchell as a clairvoyant helping a couple to figure out what happened to their daughter, and who did it. We have a quite evil killer here, breathing like Mike Myers with a flu, stalking and killing off random people at night.

I was pleasantly surprised - the print is a little dark, but I'm sure the film was actually recorded this way since the day scenes look normal. And that's sort of my point: The film IS a nasty little grim one. It has an evil atmosphere, the likes of The Prowler and Halloween - I'm not saying it's as classic as any of those, but the killer is actually scary.

The print is a bit dark, but I think the movie was recorded this way, since they scenes in daylight look normal.

A few tips from my side:

    + you should apply IVTC
+ you should crop all black parts and the noise at the edges (movie looks like a bad VHS to DVD transfer)

What did you rip it with?

Thanks.

Used AutoGK.

I don't know what IVTS is.
I don't know how to crop either.

I'll look here if there is a guide. This rip was mainly done for another site.

Neither do I :wacky:

IVTC means inverse telecine. Basically films are all shot at ~24fps, in NTSC land they use ~23fps and artificially inject several frames to put the framerate up to ~30fps which was transmission standard. NTSC is an inferior system and this is a huge part of its inferiority. In PAL land, films are sped up by ~3% so everything is 25fps.

If you are ripping from a DVD from NTSC land, chances are you need to IVTC which destroys the frames it doesn't need. If you don't do this the film stutters on playback and people like me have to bin it because it is unwatchable and the tolerance for the flaw is very low.

Chances are you need to apply FORCE FILM or click the ivtc box in gknot, autogknot is a flawed implementation and therefore you must force it to apply the correct ivtc method.

It will be in any autogknot guide as its a basic issue:
viewtopic.php?f=31&t=7124
Read the section entitled Frame Rate, and then the second post.

Ok I will learn this and know to change the rips in the future. But this one is still watchable for my standards.

May I suggest you to read this: viewtopic.php?t=15117&start=0

It is the guide to use GK. Using GK gives you more control over the outcome and will improve the quality of your rips dramatically. I used AGK in the beginning (when there was no light, remember;)), but switched to GK to my great, great pleasure.

It looks hard the first time, but give it for example 5 tries, and you will see that it gets easier everytime.

I agree. It looks much harder than it really is. Good luck and feel free to ask in the thread Slayer posted.

Strange. One would assume that at least the ripper himself would share this longer than a month. :D

Don't think anyone managed to complete this, so unless Media Cult can pop this back in share, we're looking at a dead link. :(
