You could try to remove some frames (2-3) from the end of the video stream (where the ending credits are over and all is black).
I would suggest that you remove all your denoising filters and encode the whole thing with a high quantisizer to run the tests as fast as possible.

Removing 2-3 frames would not help when the difference is much bigger, or would it?
I could try another deinterlacer (not IVTC) to see what happens. The only thing is that without IVTC-ing, the framerate will remain 29,976 fps, right?
What is a high quantisizer? 2, 3, 4 or even higher? And do you mean quantizer ratio or quantizer offset?

You are probably right. The difference in the thread I posted was 11 frames I think. You have more than thousand. I would suggest another deinterlacer. Yes. Slayer wrote: | What is a high quantisizer? 2, 3, 4 or even higher? And do you mean quantizer ratio or quantizer offset? |
Good question. 20 is used if you specify a lower bitrate for the credits in GKnot. I don't know what the maximum is. You could try 200 and see what happens. I would set the quantizer offset to 200. That's the easiest solution without altering too much of your XviD settings.

Where is that box? I can't seem to find it in GKnot. elchupacabra wrote: | Slayer wrote: | What is a high quantisizer? 2, 3, 4 or even higher? And do you mean quantizer ratio or quantizer offset? |

My quantizer offset is usually at 1.00 and now you'd like me to set it at 200? Isn't that a bit radical? Or do you think GKnot will count the frames better when I have a huge offset? Thanks for the help btw, guys!

most of the time when you say MKV you probably mean the x264 codec (aka h264, MPEG4 AVC, MPEG4 part10). The only h264 encoder I have worked with is x264 and it has made HUGE steps in the last weeks/months. CQMs are really necessary for Xvid, they are also being used on retail DVDs (MPEG2) and even on Blue-Rays (h264). x264 needed CQMs in the past, because it had some troubles keeping some small details and grain at medium bitrates which lead to banding or even macroblocks on low contrast/dark backgrounds. Now we have Deadzones, VAQ and Psy RDO and CQMs are no longer needed to get great looking rips

Yes, I meant x264. Thank you for the info.

its on the last menu, on the video tab below your first/second pass, there's a check box you need to check if you are using IVTC, adjust frameacount. Its just suspicious you have a framerate problem and there's a box that says "adjust framecount"

OK, I found it. I'll retry with this box checked, I wasn't sure if it was checked or not.

hmmm, doing a rip, its one of a series, now 1-6 encoded fine and the right size, but 7 and a couple of others are coming out undersized:
max: 2 ratio: 1.62 off: 0
eqm_v3uhr_rev2.xcm -> ~718mb target 744mb if i use 6 of 9 it comes out at 404mb which is a whopping 343mb undersized.
I suspect if i reduce max to 1, and the mins to 1 it will come out sized correctly... is that the best option?

eqm_v3uhr_rev2.xcm and 1/1.62/0 is the best option in this scenario. Depending on the source the compressibility changes around 2-6% between 1 and 2 max consec B-Vops and that's exactly what you need to hit 744MB.

Checked it, rip succeeded. Thanks.

Undersized 1/3: I used Jawors 2cd successfully on the first film (they are also two of a series), should I also go for 1 instead of 2 max BVops? Or should I also change the matrix?

First, nobody should use Jawors 2cd anymore. This was posted by the author of the matrix last year: Jawor wrote: | Due to a nasty bug in LigH's Custom Quantization Matrix Editor, coefficients in Jawor's 2CD Matrix are not properly ordered. My intention was to order them in a zigzag-scan fashion. Unfortunately the bug in CQME caused improper presentation of scan order. I thought that the order of coefficients in my matrix is right while it wasn't. ... There's a fixed version called Jawor's ZSM (Zigzag Scan Matrix) available here (scroll the page down). I know that bugs in software are sometimes inevitable, so I don't blame LigH. He did a great job with his Matrix Editor. |
And now to your problem, undersize by how much? DRF Stats?

You need ~10% more video bitrate. Keep your settings and switch to HEINI_MR.
