Looks OK to me. What's the resulting AR? Compare it to what it should be (check the DVD cover for something like 16:9 or 1.85:1 or 2.35:1).

It's as region 2 rental with Anamorphic (according to one site) Widescreen 2.40:1 vs mine 2.368 (without ITU-R checked).
Edit: But another site states is as: Widescreen, Aspect Ratio 2.40:1 (also region 2).

Info from DVD-Decrypter: Video - MPEG-2 / 720x576 (PAL) / 16:9 / Letterboxed

I never came across an AR of 2.40:1 so far, but searching the web confirms that there seems to be one. Check IMDb for the correct AR though. It is most likely 2.35:1 in your case, so 2.368:1 seems fine.
Keep the "Without ITU-R" option and try to lower the output resolution to get a W-Zoom below or equal to 100%, whilst making sure that the "Aspect Error" stays as low as possible.

Most DVDs are ITU-R, if that's the case then "2.35" is really ~2.4.

@ elguaxo: are there any other suitable cqm's to use for 1/3 DVD files when they come out undersized? I have used jawors 2 cd and heini_mr both unsuccessfully up to now :(

First, forget Jawor's 2CD, upgrade to Jawor's ZSM: viewtopic.php?p=189805#p189805

There's a fixed version called Jawor's ZSM (Zigzag Scan Matrix) available here (scroll the page down).

I know that bugs in software are sometimes inevitable, so I don't blame LigH. He did a great job with his Matrix Editor.

About CQMs, I wrote a few pages ago: viewtopic.php?p=186448#p186448

Jawor's ZSM
EQM V3HR
Heini_MR
6of9
More Details/Less Compressibility

If you get an undersize with one, use the next bigger one. If you get an oversize, use the next smaller one.

so, try for example 6of9 and if that's not enough then EQM V3EHR.

So 6of9 and EQM V3EHR are better than jawors ZSM?

Thanks again for the info.

No, not better, it depends on the compressibility of your source.

OK, I'm gonna try 6of9 tonight, if it fails, I'll try the other ones the following days.

Mmm, couldn't get it to work properly. For some reason, the encoding didn't even start and the process terminated within a minute. I first tried 6of9, then retried heini_mr.

Here's the GKnot log:

The first rip since reinstalling GK worked fine, the second however made my PC freeze. It starts doing a first pass, finishes it, but doesn't do a second pass. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? What could be the prob? The log looks like this.

Code:
4-8-2008 2:50:43: Job " 1 - VTS_02_1.avi" started.

o  Xvid - First Pass:         F:\Video\Rip\VTS_02_1.avs
o  Xvid - Second Pass:        F:\Video\Rip\VTS_02_1.avs
o  Mux Audio.
End of Job 1 ( 1 - VTS_02_1.avi).

PC freezes. :o I guess this means there is no error message at all.

How many times have you been trying? Did you check that there is enough disc space? Have you tired closing/disabling any other program before you start encoding? Did you try restarting Windows?

No, no error message. I'll start from the beginning. Let's call the situation described above, situation A. OK, here goes:

I started to rip movie 1. I used jawors 2 cd, of which elguaxo told me later it is flawed. The first rip was OK, though. The second rip, ripping DVD nr 2, gave me situation A. Then I switched to heini_mr and situation A occurred twice in a row. Then I tried 6of9, but then GK won't even rip anymore:

Mmm, couldn't get it to work properly. For some reason, the encoding didn't even start and the process terminated within a minute. I first tried 6of9, then retried heini_mr.

Here's the GKnot log:

Code:

Even re-decrypting the DVD doesn't help. I'm obviously forgetting something, but what is it?

Let's call this situation B.
Then Lux told me I should reinstall GK. So I did, and the first rip I made (DVD 2) was successful. I started to rip DVD nr 3, and situation A returned. Then I posted here about it, I read your reply, I restarted Windows and then tried again. Situation B returned.

That's it so far and I'm totally confused on what it could be.

This sounds strange. The fact that reinstalling GKnot worked once should point to GKnot as the problem.

This may sound hilarious, but: Could it be that GKnot or XviD fails to write its log files or something like that? :?

I'm quoting the logfiles in my posts above, so I don't think that is the case...

If you have a big enough harddisk then make a new partition and install a new ~XP and then G-Knot... for your dedicated rippping/encoding needs.
