Diary of the Dead - Romero tries to put some extra thought/satire/criticism behind this zombieflick, but he is trying too hard. One character even tells the audience about it, which is not too subtle, if you ask me. The story is OK, the zombie-action is good. I enjoyed this one better than Land of the Dead. One note: I was surprised by seeing someone commit suicide and then also become a zombie, without being bitten or having been near a zombie. Glitch in story?

Seed Of Chucky (2004): This is a shame. The first approximately 10 minutes with the first person killing scene is cool. Then it turns into a stupid horror comedy for ten year olds. The only scenes where I laughed were when the paparazzi is photographing the masturbating Chucky and when Chucky presents his cum to Jennifer Tilly asking "And now what should I do with this?".

Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954): Nice photography. It's a shame that old horror movies just can't create the atmosphere to build up suspense nowadays. The animations are too old and shitty for me. I guess I'll just have to skip them next time.

It's the first film with underwaterscenes, I'll keep remembering it for that.

Don't you see any charm in the old-fashioned style of 50s movies? I have a soft spot somewhere for the silliness which in many cases hangs about these movies, so I actually enjoy watching them. Also, it is nice to see the Cold War and Red Scare actuality so much reflected in the movies of that era.

Well, I don't really look at them like horror movies for the very purpose I stated above. They are instead quite funny to watch. :)

OK, I get it ;)

This may be sounding like I think of myself as a tough guy, but a horrorfilm must do a lot to scare me these days. I think it's because I have seen so many of them (and there's still many to go too). In the recent past, only French horrors had enough.

La Terza Madre - not as good as Suspiria or Inferno, but still an interesting movie. Asia is nice to look at, but she's not a very good actress. The story is OK, I liked the evil monkey.

Zombie High - dull movie. Not recommended, unless you're really into highschool/student movies. There is hardly any horror in this, the title is totally misleading.

The Rocketeer - nice enjoyable movie, which I'd classify as an adventure: it is filmed in 30s style, and it takes place in that era as well. Jennifer Connelly is very attractive in this, the plot is somewhat far fetched, but overall it is really nice.

Automaton Transfusion - zombies which can run are always some sort of turnoff for me. Apart from that, there are several occasions in which it seems the editors forgot to cut out scenes which have a totally different storyline than the main stream of events. Weird.

Parasite - this was highly enjoyable, I laughed out loud a few times. The monster is ridiculous, Demi Moore looks very young and the "post nuclear" thing is somewhat scrambled together. Recommended if you like bad movies.

Ice Cream Man (1995): This is for the kids at halloween. It is a funny horror movie with a great Clint Howard. Don' expect anything really scary here. It has a solid but very predictable plot.

Redeu-ai (aka Redeye) (2005): South Korean ghost story with trains. It has a few shocking moments in the style of Ringu and Grudge but they are too few. The story isn't very interesting. Recommended only if you love Asian horror. Otherwise it is a needn't see.

Acción Mutante (1992): Totally weird, original and funny. What I didn't like were all the stupid "commercials" and reporters. At the end it seemed like a corny joke.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003): I've already seen this one back in 2003. At that time I actually hated it. Now it seemed ok. Despite I haven't seen the original yet, it is an okay horror movie with some great scares.

Red Riding Hood (2003): This one was actually better than I expected. The spooky atmosphere of Rome's streets at night worked for me. It has some gory killing scenes and the acting was good too. It seems that this movie falls into the underdog section - meaning it's rather unknown. Recommended!!

Ernest Scared Stupid (1991): This movie started a bit boring, but it got better and better with every minute. I liked the troll costumes very much - each was individual and looked very good. The movie had some good laughs and it is probably best watched on Hallow's Eve. Recommended too!

Dogma - funny and sharp movie about angels who have a conflict with god and cannot return to heaven. But... they find a glitch, and plan on returning anyway. Now the last descendant of Christ, the apostle, the prophets and the muse have to stop them. I just love Kevin Smith films (well, most of them).

The Nightcomers (1972): It's more dark thriller than horror. The movie is a prequel to The Turn of the Screw starring Marlon
Brando and Stephanie Beachem. If you liked The Innocents, then you'll like this movie.

The Case of Howard Phillips Lovecraft: A documentary on Lovecraft. It's not your standard doc, very arty, and not much
new info but enjoyable all the same. If you like Lovecraft, check it out.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920): Very old but yet entertaining flick about hypnotism and its misuse. Check this out if you want to experience the atmoshpere and acting of the old times. Recommended!

The Willies (1991): Rather boring collection of three very short and two longer tales, which three children tell themselves at night inside a tent. At the end I got so bored that I could hardly wait for the end. This is something for kids only!!

Dances With Wolves - both my gf and I had seen this like 15 years ago, so we gave it another go. In some of the scenes the fakeness of the backgrounds "shocked" me, as I had believed they were real when I watched it the first time :) Although it lasts for almost 4 hours, it's only boring a few times where you can see people riding over the plains and you think "Please, ride a little faster". Overall I think it's not too long and apart from several very incredible stuff (like the white woman in the tribe, she is totally unbelievable) it is a nice movie about the frontier times.

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay - I knew these guys from the first installment, and they made me feel good when I was a little down a few years back. I felt like watching a feelgood movie again, so I watched this. I didn't like it as much as the first one, but had some nice moments. A small drawback for me was watching it with my very critical gf, while this is more a "boys/men" movie.

Red Nights of the Gestapo - like Salon Kitty, this nazisploitation has quite an elaborate storyline, in contrary to the concentrationcamp movies. Also like Salon Kitty, this takes too long. There were a few scenes which I enjoyed, but I keep waiting for the experiments and the torture to start, and then it doesn't come. I guess the fact that I have seen the more extreme nazisploitations first has spoiled me in this fashion.

I Bought A Vampire Motorcycle - humorous, really funny. I enjoyed this one from soon after the beginning until the end. Apart from one very silly scene
Spoiler:
the guy who dies first appears to Noddy as a turd-person
, the film has a good sens of humour and some good gore as well. The premise that the motorcycle is evil, and not a person, is pretty original imo and I guess the makers of "Blood Car" have seen this movie. Recommended.

The Siege of Firebase Gloria - another Vietnam flick starring R. Lee Ermey, the ultimate officer. Check his imdb page, whenever he is not playing a sergeant or anything like it, he is a policeman or a coach of a sports team, typecasting at its best. Many people are positive in their reviews of this movie. I enjoyed it, but thought of it as nothing else than mediocre. I agree it is not a heavy movie: you don't have to take a political stand in this one, there is of course violence and some cruelties, but it is not overstretched like in Casualties of War and other Vietnam films. If you want to see a "nice" Nam movie, pick this one. It is easily digested.

Hollywood Horror House (1969): A very draggy film that combined Sunset Boulevard with elements of slasher horror. It
even sports some famous old time actors from the 30s. Sadly, the pacing is awful, and the plot standard. Have a couple
beers then watch it. :)

The X Files: I Want to Believe (2008)

Enjoyed this. It wasn't as good as vintage X-files, but it was enjoyable. A bit too long in places, but i loved the reveal, like good old freaky x-files.

I'd probably give it a 5 or 6/10 based on the following criticism:
  • It fealt too long, probably would have been better as a tv episode
  • The scully / child storyline was annoying and would have been better if it was signficantly reduced
  • There was too much pandering to old series clichés; it would have been better served as a quick entry and a reinstatement into the FBI with a huge unravelling case.

Overall I liked the story; very isolated and with no conspiracy theory, just like most of the best episode of the X-Files historically.

Antropophagus (1980): People visit an island on which everybody was killed by a flesh eating beast of a man. Only a blind girl managed to hide and can help the people to sense his presence, because the beast smells of blood. Good old horror movie with nice gore scenes: the antropophagus is tasting the unborn child of a woman by first tearing it out through her vagina. Nice atmosphere too. Unfortunately a little too sudden ending for my taste. Recommended though! :D

In The Mouth Of Madness (1995): I've already seen this but wanted to check it out again for I now have this on DVD. Great mysterious horror movie. An author named Sutter Cane is writing horror novels that turns their readers into mad killing machines. Suddenly the author disappears. Sam Neil manages to locate him in one of his imaginary towns from his novels. Can Sam Neil stop him before he releases the ultimate apocalypse through his final novel or is he also just another imaginary figure from one of his books? Brilliant story and cast. Highly recommended Carpenter movie.

Shutter (08) --Another Japanese rip off flick--girl/guy marry, ghost begins haunting them, photography, beautiful Japanese scenery (I wanna stay in a cabin in the Japanese Mountains dammit!) etc. Much better than I thought it would be--at least avoided some of the stereotypes. Did not scare me (most horror films don't--but I love them anyway....) Overall, enjoyable and full of useless calories like cotton candy!

Sat Aug 16th--Watched Prom Night re-make (not)I actually appreciated that it was a re-make in name only as I love the first one and am sick of re-makes in general--it was not as bad as I thought it would be--Pretty typical slasher, no nudity though and I miss the naughty teens of the 70's and 80's who were always smoking weed, fucking and just generally being cool! And of course no one could ever replace the head rolling onto the disco dance floor or Jamie Lee Curtis's amazing disco dancing....memories.....aaahhhh....

Some of the posts here were lost in the famous migration move, and I'm not gonna retype all the movies I have seen, sorry.

Recently I have seen:

Terrorvision - cool 80s flick about a monster from outer space which hides in the TV and kills people (nice "subliminal" message). I liked the atmosphere, the somewhat dumb acting (especially grandpa) and the oitrageous clothing (like the leather dress worn by the mother). The monster was cool as well.

Lionman - kills almost 90 minutes, and does only that. Totally leaving no impression whatsoever, stupid story, bad sound, wooden acting. It has it all. Recommended for bad moviefans.

KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park (1978): Recommended only for fans of the KISS band. I wouldn't call this a horror movie. It is more like fantasy and action combined. The story is OK whereas most action movies have only a stupid plot. I enjoyed it! :)
