RedVeil wrote: | 13 Ghosts (1960): This was one fine b/w horror movie. It had a good story, good acting and good atmosphere. I enjoyed it very much, although I expected less then I've got - mostly because of the very disappointing b/w movie that I watched earlier: Carnival of Souls. Candyman (1992): Gory movie with a huge amount of scary moments. I didn't expect this to be such a psycho kind of a movie. It was good but I didn't understand the ending - it didn't make sense to me. |
Love both of these flicks--just great-we actually rented 13 ghosts with the 3d glasses--it was pretty neato--I always thought the ending of Candyman was interesting and one of those kinds that everyone interprets their own way...

Have not posted for a bit on this one so a bit of catching up to do The Passion of Joan of Arc--silent==really beautiful and moving Another disc of The Veil with Boris Karloff--loving this series--but I love all that Boris does Leaves from Satan's Book--a really great silent by Carl Theodor Dreyer-excellent and a surprisingly creepy for a silent Twice Told Tales--Vincent Price--how can you not love it..... Original Wicker Man for the umpteenth time --it was on cable last night--it just never gets old for me Very excited too---Sleepaway Camp II-Unhappy Campers is on it's way--Oberon has not seen this and is very excited after I introduced him to the original Sleepaway Camp--Can't wait to see his reaction! Being a bit older than him I have seen quite a few more of the 80's slashers so it's fun to introduce them to him! I know the second one is not as good as the first one but it's still great fun!

Watched Jawbreaker today. Surprisingly good movie. Marilyn Manson is in it for about 3 seconds. Mainly what that movie did is re enforce my deep seeded hatred for high school girls.

Clownhouse (1988): Solid little horror movie. Three psychos free from the mental institution, kill some clowns at a funfair, take their suits and break into a house at midnight. Unfortunately only three brothers and no parents are at home. It was fun to watch. The Baby's Room (2006): Nice Spanish movie with ghosts and parallel universes. Despite the ending was quite predictable, the acting and the story was great. Had some nice shocking moments.

Sorority Sister Slaughter - mega low budget flick with all black cast which goes into a haunted sorority house. Guess what happens, you will be right. Very forgettable, avoid.
Nature Morte - attempt to make an arty killermovie. It fails. It looks like a thriller for most of the movie and it doesn't convince me as a viewer. Some very rare moments of nice atmosphere, that's all. Avoid.
Special Dead - I thought this was funny, especially because the portraying of the inhabitants of "Special Camp" was cliche and politically incorrect at the same time. When they become zombies, they look great! Some nice humour, not much, though. Nice little zombieflick, recommended.
Private House of the SS - sex, no torture. Quite a nice story, although a bit farfetched. In the inal scene people start to speak Italian suddenly. Some effects are hilarious: the baby son of Anna in the final scene is a doll, even a blind kid could see that. Recommended if you like bad movies.
Non-horror:
Battle of Britain (docu) - good, nothing special.
Doctor Zhivago - way too long. Only the first half is interesting.
The Trench - bad WWI movie with Daniel Craig as the sergeant. Where in most movies the film is OK and the ending is shit, in this movie it is the other way around. The final scene makes up for a pretty much shit portrait o the trenches in 1916.
The Fall of the Roman Empire - very, very long movie which covers the same stiry as Gladiatoir did decades later. It's nice to compare the two, as they are very different.
Luther - a film sponsored by Lutherans, it can't be very reliable then. It isn't. Some stuff is correct, but especially the fact that Luther was a fanatic in anti-semitism is omitted completely.
Che Guevara - nice documentary about his life. Recommended if you want to know about Latin American revolutionaries.

'Suspiria', 'Inferno' and 'Mother of Tears' - I'd already seen 'Suspiria', but I just downloaded the other two and I enjoyed 'em. 'Mother of Tears' was good, but I gotta say that it could have used more of that pink and blue background lighting that really made the other two stand out as unique. Also, the soundtrack wasn't quite up to par with the other two. And the whole Daria Nicolodi Ghost Mom thing didn't do much for me (better than 'Ghost Dad' with Bill Cosby, though), but other than that I loved it, especially the witch's slutty teenie bopper goth chick coven that begins to appear en masse all over Rome. 'Inferno' was great, probably my favorite of the three... I read some reviews that blasted the ending as being cheesy, but I thought it was awesome. It was almost like a stage play, but I thought it was really symbolic (mirrors, death/skeleton, fire, etc) and effective. The 'Mother of Tears' cameo was a cool touch, too.

I couldn't agree more. Last night I watched: Teeth - I expected more of this, but it was nice anyway. Took pretty long to get things going, butin the end, the vagina dentata was the real winner. Murder Party - funny killer film about a guy who coincidentally ends up on an artist's killing spree night. From the beginning many things start to go wrong for the artists and the outcome is quite funny.

I enjoyed these too-Argento is one of my favorites--he makes some missteps but for style, he is hard to beat! (Ghost Dad....)

I love Clownhouse! Such a great flick! The director is an evil child molester in real life--he actually molested the oldest boy in that film but the boy was so traumatized he did not tell anyone for years so the guy can't be prosecuted...Maybe they can prosecute him for directing Powder...

Yeah, the skin around his scalp always looks like it's peeling off. He's so pale that he makes Barak Obama look like Eddie Murphy (Oh shit, I think I just gave someone the idea for the next black man/white man "buddy" movie)... and I think I lost a year off my life for every time he forced that creepy grimace of a smile. His trophy wife is pretty hot, though.

Yup, I watch a lot, and I don't even post everything (some documentaries on TV for example, or episodes of series/documentaries). But, what I posted above is what I watched in some 10 days. Currently I'm watching 7 Up and Shoah, both are very long films (7 Up isn't even finished), so I watch them spread over several days.

Subspecies (1991): Nice vampire B-Movie with Michelle McBride (Does anybody know her? ), whom you can see partially naked. Two American students travel to Romania and want to study the local folklore. Unfortunately there is an old castle inhabited by vampires near their accommodation. People are turned (into vampires), which is a must in a every vampire movie for me. The main attraction of this movie is the villain Radu (and his voice ). Devil's Nightmare (1971): I didn't have high hopes for this one. I thought it would simply be a dull old dubbed Italian monster movie. But I was wrong. The Gothic and creepy atmosphere of this movie is great. It's about 7 people that must stop at a creepy castle. At midnight each of them is attacked by a gorgeous Succubus, who seduces them to commit one of the 7 deadly sins, after which she is able to take their souls. Especially the ending was quite interesting, in which you see the devil himself making an offer to the last survivor. Batman: The Dark Knight (2008): I watched this at the cinema festival that took place this weekend. Great movie. I loved how it showed how the character of "Two Face" was born and that it wasn't only about action. It had a nice plot, some twists and a great Joker with a quite evil and sophisticated plan. Heath Ledger R.I.P. The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008): Second movie for me at the cinema festival. I've seen part 1 and 2; liked both. However I think part 1 was way better. Unfortunately the third installment is very week. While you had a nice adventurous plot, with riddles and stuff like that in the prequels, this movie is an entire special effects (CGI) mess. The entire movie felt like a follow up of action scenes in which they hunt the Dragon Emperor. Even Rachel Weisz could not have saved this movie. The romantic scenes are dull and most jokes aren't funny. I was disappointed.
