I was confused when I first saw ads for this. House in my mind instantly goes to Hough Laurie.

wow, in my mind it's the Sean Cunningham "House" franchise from the 80s hehe I couldn't read news about this movie without automatically thinking "a remake of that House?", a clash of generations perhaps? :o

btw thanks for this, I was certainly not expecting this one so soon... what's with all those early rips these days? wow, you check news for a movie today like "first picture from House!", tomorrow you're taking your own screen shots... I say we are TOO spoiled these days, and I mean it, it's totally messing up our perception about movies, just how easy we got everything is a bit disturbing... download, watch, delete... next one up.

blabla, thanks

Is it a Saw/Hostel kind of terror?

It's a Christian horror movie.

I was halfway paying attention to G4 justa minute ago and they showed a commercial for a pretty cool looking family terrorizing teens in a house movie and it turned out to be this. Apparently it's coming out in theaters. I was also surprised that it is rated R. I think I may check this out now.

What does this mean? Is it a horror made by Christians or is this only horror for Christians?

Usually one means the other I think.

I must admit, this one looks okay though.

A little from column A, a little from column B.

A quote from the Dread Central review - "The movie version is directed by Robby Henson, who also directed last year's Christian serial killer thriller Thr3e (review); it too was based on a Ted Dekker novel. Like Thr3e, House is also meant to tell a spiritually fulfilling tale of redemption and forgiveness in the guise of a horror movie. Also like Thr3e, the spirituality is soulless, the horror is spineless, the plot is pointless, and the movie is lifeless."

After the preview I saw, I still want to see this though.

Sinopse
In rural Alabama, two couples find themselves in a fight for survival. Running from a maniac (The Tin Man) bent on killing them, they flee deep into the woods and seek refuge in a house. They soon realize the killer has purposely lured them to this house and that they are now trapped. As they huddle around an old fireplace, a tin can falls through the chimney. Scrawled on its side is a message from the killer, establishing his House Rules. The rules call for their deaths unless they kill at least one of the four. They have less than 12 hours to find a way to survive. At sunrise the game is over and everyone dies if the killer's demands aren't met. What they quickly learn is that the only way out... is in. But going further into this house--where unknown challenges await them--is equally deadly.

Watched it a week or two ago. It's bad. Not bad enough to be funny and not as bas as to be unwatchable, but bad enough to be... just bad. Bad story, bad acting, bad effects, bad camera work, bad dialogue, in fact about everything in it is just plain bad (which is interesting since it's supposed to carry a "good message" - somebody not read the memo? or is it just the level of incompetence? or maybe just the simple human lack of acting and film-making skills). And yes, it is a movie that has a Message for you. The Message is very important, so you should be very careful not to miss it. Don't worry though, you might miss over half of the movie and you'll catch it anyway, it's not exactly subtle. The Message, in case you don't want to waste your time with this thing, can be summed up easily: "Light conquers Darkness (literally, it's repeated a couple of times too, in case somebody somehow misunderstood it). If you're good, married and have a family, you get to live and be happy if you die. If you're bad, marry for money and/or have pre-marriage sex, you die and go to Hell. In Hell you will suffer. A lot. By fire and stuff. And bad memories of stuff that sucks, too!" :watchingyou:

The movie raised my hopes a little in a dastardly fashion near the end when I hoped at least a little of it could be salvaged. Then it crushed it and proceeded with the Message. Then I understood that all the pre-marriage sex had doomed me - after all, I was already watching this. :(

Oh, btw, did I mention that the sound volume is also bad as in the voices compared to the background and the (obligatory) bad music? Well, it is. At least for me, a person without hearing problems would probably be able to catch much more of it, but I was having real problems (only amplified by the hicks' forced accents) understanding what was being talked about (ultimately though it appears it would make no difference whether I'd hear all of it, half of it, or just turned it to mute), which brought to light another bad thing about it - no subtitles. So after a little digging I found out the only English language ones available that turned out to be, I presume, directly translated from Portuguese (guessing here) - with some interesting results.

Image

Can you guess what these guys are really talking about?

Spoiler:
"Give me a hand over here." - While trying to lit an old lamp.

2.5/10, just because I'm not in the mood to kick them while they're down.
