Right check this thread : http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?p=20249#20249
Now that films gonna be crap, I know it is.
Thats 100% sure and guaranteed
But I'll click it

Becuase I like the gore/bloodshed in the film.
Now NOT violence, I'm not talking about a girl getting beaten/raped (Thats a different area)

I'm talking about zombies/cannibals/supernatural gore/bloodshed.

So why is it that we/me watch these films for this?

We want the FULL UNCUT version, with i.e the girl getting her eye poked out by a splinter of wood (Zombie FleshEaters) as the BBFC version cuts just as the eye comes into contact with the wood!

Now I'm no freak or violence obsessed wierdo.

I'm your average 20 year old student who does the normal day to day things, except given the choice of Love Actually at cinema or D'Amatos Zombie 5 : The Birds

I choose Zombie 5

I've asked my other friends why it is that they like horror/splatter and they kind of agree with what i beleive :

Quote:
I know that it aint real, and want to see the "Special Effects" at work!

Anyway, post your thoughts on the matter and remember I'm on about fantasy style film gore and NOT realistic stuff AKA Scrap Book/I spit on your grave etc etc.

Why do we watch the Dawn of the Dead, Re-Animator,Undead,Zombi etc style movies!

Be interested to seeyour opinions and also vice versa, why do alot of people NEVER get into horror and watch Daawn,Zombie and such films?

Seriousley, I think horror s pretty cool 8)

Or is that just being nerdy

But d0c, do you crave the UNCUT versions of films?
Coz I do, take and a good example :

Friday 13th.

Now I spent alot of money getting a dodgey VCD version just for those extra few seconds of neck slashing, spear peircing footage?

Again, I think I just like the special effects.

If you said you had a real life footage of somebody beeing skewered in the neck, I'd be like
"NO THANKS!"

But gimme Kevin Bacon getting skewered anyday!!!

Why particulary horror I can't explain but movies ( and games ) really are more or less supplemental or in worrying cases even SURROGATE EXPERIENCES......

Our lives are drap , jokes that aren't funny , every day largly the same, confined by so many things.......

Same here.

Guess I agree on that one too.

I think for me watching horror is like trying to re-live/re-capture those feelings that I had when I saw Evil Dead first time at age of 10, first time with Exorcist and NOES etc :)
And I've always been fascinated with all things dark and mysterious ie. evil. For me most of the 'mainstream' movies are too boring. Guess, in the end I just want to see some blood or something like that. Not that I only watch horror. I think that about 7 out of 10 movies is horror though, but I do like many of the 'normal' movies. Comedies (Pythons) etc.

As my english skill isn't as good as I would like it to be, I'll cut this answer here. Can't elaborate enough :)

And Yes. I crave for UNCUT versions. If it was possible wouldn't watch them in any other way. Always wan't the longest version, directors-cut and so on :)

Yeah, I watch to experience or see something wild, something done with special effects.
Again I like the film armageddon, becuase they create an atmospher of the world coming to an end and being saved by regular joes on an asteroid!

If only we could, but films like undead, keep our hopes alive that there are still good horrors/splatter films made!

For me I like to be scared silly, guess that's why the serial killer movies are my faves knowing that it actually happened or can happen is far scarier than a zombie flick to me but that's jmo :D

Ah a womens opinion.

Yes i see that but watching for realism is different. My topic is about, why do we watch films to see people getting attcked and killed by killer animals/zombies/aliens etc.

Katya, do you watch uncut films like Dawn of the Dead or Zombie Flesheaters. Coz the majority of zombie/gore horrors are bad, but we all watch them/download, for the gore.

So you like serial killer films for the realism/you know that it "could" happen, but zombie films?

They aint gonna happen, as much as Jeff Dahmer is. So why do you watch Zombie films (if you do?)

NERD!
Not me I'm just eccentric. :D

Ok, here's one:
We all enjoy horror because we are all afraid of dying. Watching horror movies is therapy for overcoming our fear.
-name change: SHFMM- Spud's Home For Mortified Mortals

Or:
We are all sick bastards that enjoy watching people suffer and live through the killers.
-name change: SHAH- Sadists Have A Home
We are all sick bastards that enjoy getting hurt by others and live through the victims.
-name change: MHAH- Masochists Have A Home

Or:
We watch because we just enjoy the sfx. (lier, )

I'm childish. There's some inner urge which tells me watching exsessive blood and gore makes me look cool and tough to other people, allthough I know it actually aint so. I hunted down and bought Guinea Pig films and even some illegal torture vids for insane prices just to be able to sit and laugh at my friends feeling sick and having to stop drinking when we finally watched it.

That being said, I also suspect I might be growing up (oh, the humanity) as I find myself being less and less facinated by all that stuff and more into intricate storylines and character development. hehe I'm probably cussin' in church here.. These days I'd much rather watch a good drama (as long as it's not a shitty chick-flick) such as Kitano's very awesome 'Dolls', than some 70's splatterfest.

Some very few occasions these ingredients are mingled together and those are the movies that I hold dearest. That's why I love Takeshi Miike, Kiyoshi Kurosawa or David Cronenberg even.

I watch horror mainly because I am a sickly deranged twisted fuck with no moral values.

When a horror flick is really good (objectively) I can enjoy it simply a s a good flick. When it's bad, it's usually funny. Regardless of whether the creators were conscious of their limitations (that's how great parodies are made) or not (usually that's also a kind of unintentional parody). Besides, I like low-budget movies, it's always a lot of fun to watch these "special effects".

So whatever the option is, a horror flick is always good. Whereas a poor drama is just a poor drama.

I like to be scared (in a good way)..
That's the main reason why I'm watching horror.

eh
i just like to see things that dont happen in everyday life. well, in everyday lives of normal people.
'horror' to me is more of a catch all term. most movies not labeled as 'horror' usually end up on the frilly side of gay as we take that wild ride at fag factor 5 with a magic ticket and arnold, or predatory carnivorous dinosaurs killing machines who just cant seem to kill the kids, and wondering why all the movies have been neutred.

haha, i guess i like horror because i hate everything else.

i remember why i want to wach horror movies, for the scares yes, for the scenes that you can't get in other movies yes, but more importantly, i am tired of all those fucking hollywood feel-good romantic movies that flooded the market a good 6-7 years back, i am sick of all those bullshits on the cinema and on TV, i NEED something different, and horror movies offer those to me, of course then i got tired of horror and move onto forgein(non-english) movies.

Yep, definetly, i look for films that are more story/character driven too!

Which is why I'm getting more pissed off with really lame horrors that are just appalling!

I mean some of them are just plain bad, and I feel robbed/cheated that they wasted the oportunity to make a "decent" film and ended up with crap
