Any tips/tricks that you can give me on this process to make sure that my burn is good?

Also, what speed SHOULD I write the CD at? I am writing with 1x but it's taking a long damn time :(

i burn at 40x, i don't think it's a big deal.

No tips really, relax all iso standards, don't do multisessions, burn at whatever. Child's Play :)

1x? Masochist!

There might be a reason to lower burn speed to 1x, but this only for audio CDs. And my ears are not good enough to hear the difference, if there really is one.

Here is a tip or two:

Burn a few at your burner's max write speed using the settings mentioned earlier. Use the 'Nero CD-DVD Speed' tool to check your burns for errors (the 'CD Quality Test' under EXTRA). If you come up with a little error here and there, not to worry, your burner if it is a good reader should overcome them. If not and your reader gets stuck trying to read or it is full of errors try a slower burn speed. Mixed media isn't as hard to burn as a big archive file or .avi.

Stupid question, but when comparing a burnt movie to the original found on my hdd the "bytes used" are different from one another, is this bad? To the best of my knowledge, "byes used" has something to do with the directory, not the actual file.

That's bytes on disk.

Copy it back to your HD and then compare sizes.
You'll see they are the same.

remember that your disk is a different format too. CDs = CDFS (I think if i recall right), HDD = FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, etc.

NTFS file will be a different size, as satan says, on disk :)
