Bah! Thought I was gonna get to do an AFR of this in its OAR, but the damned thing just looks like it's been cropped to me...
Is it that the fullscreen version is open matte, and the 'widescreen' version isn't over cropped? Anyone know?
Anyway, unless someone knows of a better DVD in it's OAR than the German Starlight Film disc I'm gonna do an AFR of it if there's enough interest, but which one (ws/fs) would you folks want?

Yep, looks like there won't be a widescreen rip
Also, does anyone know if the Japanese(?) cut is fact or fiction? - Supposed to contain more character development between Stone & Durkin plus extra violence/gore.

Even though it isn't anamorphic, the French disc is 1.66:1 as well, and looking at the screenshots of it here has more picture info. So I think I'll try to order that one, and if I can then I'll encode it and mux the English audio from the German disc.

The real problem with it being Open Matte (essentially 4:3) is that you need push more bits into it, and then when I Zoom to the new Full Screen (16:9) it'll look less-than it would if encoded for it. But hey its really all about having the best version! The VHS I have seems to have lots of gore cut out.

Not quite sure what you're saying about the different AR's there?
Anyway, as the Japanese version is seemingly impossible to find, I tried ordering the French disc but the guy who was selling it fucked me around so much that in the end I told him where he could stick it. So, until I can be bothered trying to get the French disc again, is everyone ok with a rip of the widescreen version off the German disc?

Hi buddy !
Just so you know, the picture color of the German disc, released from Starlight Film, is not really correct. It's way too much green than what it should be, in my opinion, when the Australian DVD look a little too much blue...
I just added some screens of the US HBO DVD too, to compare it will the other two DVDs.
German Starlight Film DVD :
Australian Interstar Releasing DVD :
US HBO Home Video DVD :
Sure, the Australian DVD is only in Fullscreen, when the German one contain both Wide & Full (and btw, is it really widescreen ?) Anyway, let me know what you think... I prefer the color of the Australian and US DVD over the German one, but maybe it's just me... That's why I made those print screen.
(P.S.: Don't judge the AR of those pictures, because they were not taken at the exact same time, so they are not very accurate for the AR, they were only taken for the color comparaison.)

Yeah man, thanks for the screenie comparisons but I've the US, Spanish and French (which looks crap!) discs so I know about the chroma difference - that's why I've not made a rip of it yet.

Well, I just added screenshots of the US HBO DVD (thanks to you btw for the link ), and they look better than the Australian DVD at some point. The picture is less blue, more clear... take a look...

Yeah, I know, i've been VERY slow on this one, it's because I wanted to wait a little before, and post other DVD edition screenshot too at the same time, cause I was thinking about re-doing all the screenshot, and provide more details from the DVD, like I just did with Pit And The Pendulum...
But now that you reminded me, it's on my top priority list, expect screenshot from the Hungarian DVD, Terra Cotta and KSM pretty soon. I'm only missing the ones from Sweden, Italian and French.
