Frightmare - the last Pete Walker movie I have in my collection, and it turns out to be one of the best. In the beginning I was a bit confused, and if I hadn't read the DVD's backside, it would have taken me even longer to figure out what was going on, but as soon as I did, I found the storyline to be great. Two elderly people are hiding from public life because they have been convicted in the past for cannibalism and murder. One of them, the mother, still struggles with this anomaly, while the father tries to adhere to a more normal life, but can't. It was great to see the father having his dilemmas all the time: which duaghter to support, which decision to make, etc. Great acting, nice looking daughters, great ending! Highly recommended.
Golden Temple Amazons - haha, a Jess Franco excuse to show off a lot of naked tits. The story is about nothing, well, it is about a golden temple (which looks like a large box giftwrapped for xmas), and a mountain of gold too. The plot is so simplistic, it is almost an insult to the viewer. The amazons have cardboard weaponry and they really aren't amazons, as their leader is a male. A dirty old male, to be precise. He has a lot of sex apparently, because it is totally normal to him to fuck a girl when she is presented to him. Lina Romay does her thing in senselessly torturing some other members of the party that were captured by the amazons. Recommended for bad moviefans.
Dead Heat - two cops have trouble stopping a robbery, because the robbers can't get killed. When one of the cops dies in the ensuing fight, he gets revived by a machine they find in the building where the fight took place. Then he has a few days more to "live" before his body will start decomposing. In the meantime he has to find the madman who made these living dead possible. Nice and 80s, this was very enjoyable, although some of the jokes fell a bit flat, but this can be forgiven when considering the age of the film. Acting is good, music is very synthesizer, Vincent Price as a very old man was a treat to see. I liked this film. Recommended.

Forgot to post yesterday:
Dario Argento: an eye for horror - nice documentary on one of my favourite directors. The overview of his career (in the documentary we see shots on the set of Sleepless, so it spans Argentos career up to 2001) is nicely done, and the interviews are OK. Sometimes I was a bit surprised by seeing who gets an interview in this, like Alice Cooper, I didn't think he had to add a lot to Argentos story (and alongside with him there is a filmmaker, a critic and another person who didn't really belong in this documentary). Also, it was a bit of easy scoring to interview Asia a lot (although I love to watch Asia onscreen, this was a bit too much preaching to the choir). When his daughters are interviewed (Fiore gets some time too), we get a nice little insight in their family life, although that could have been made a little more interesting too. All other interviewed people were more or less involved in Argentos work, so you get to see Savini, Cozzi, Romero, Nicolodi, etc. Good documentary, but there are better ones out there too. Recommended.
Bloodsuckers from Outer Space - a B-movie made bad on purpose. It spoofs scifi/horror pics and they do it well. An invisible alien (brilliant! saves hundreds of dollars!) attacks people in rural America and they start feeding on others. The military first doesn't believe it, and when they do, they want to nuke the entire area. In the meantime, some people try to work on a cure while more and more people turn into zombies ("bloodsuckers" in this movie) around them. The zombies are quite funny, as they act like they aren't zombies at all (for example, the aunt of the guy who tries to find a cure still wants to make dinner for him because he is visiting, like nothing happened). I laughed a few times, the gore is nice. Recommended.
El Grito de la Muerte - nice classic Mexican horror story about a ghost woman terrorizing a small community. A cowboy and his sidekick (who always wants to go to sleep - a somewhat annoying comical sidenote) who happen to pass by are trying to help and solve the problem. They find out that there is more to it than just some traditional folklore and superstition. Gold is playing its part, too. Highly recommended.
Zombie 5: Killing Birds - this is a weird title, as there are two scnes in which the birds actually play a part, in the rest of the film it is just an attempt at making a zombieflick. I was surprised to see this is co-directed by Joe D'Amato, and although I usually like his movies, this was not a groundbreaking success, I think. Where a zombieflick needs some action from time to time, preferably by a large group of zombies, this movie lacks in that department. It tries to build up a story on the Vietnam veteran you get to see in the beginning, but that is just not interesting enough. As a passtime it is OK-ish, but if you want to have zombiefun, go pick a different movie.
Yesterday I watched:
The Touch of her Flesh - the first of a trilogy of sexploitation films from 1968. What you get to see is a lot of T&A, there is almost no dialogue, sometimes there is a voice over and there are two (yes, two!) murders. This is all a bit too meager for me. Most of the movie I watched at ffwd, because 1) nothing happened and 2) there was no dialogue to be missed. I think it was a success back then because of it showing a lot of nudity. I'd skip it.
V - the mini-series from 1983. Actually, this isn't a mini series, it is two movies which you can watch back to back, like Halloween I and II. It was a nice watch, I really went into the story. When a movie isn't so interesting, I usually start to think of other things and I didn't do that during V. It really grabbed me. The way they showed persecution was really well done. Acting is great, especially by the aliens. What really disappointed me was the ending. I was waiting for some earthling/alien action and I didn't get any. It left me wanting. I want more! This isn't a good thing, it means for me that the movie is (a bit) incomplete. So, I'd recommend watching it, but beware of the fact that you might feel like it is unfinished.

The Thaw (2009): This movie wants to change your mind about the global warming thing. The message is (and I completely agree with it) that people just don't want to change and don't give a fuck about the climate. They don't want to give up their convenient way of living and need the government to conclude restrictions - which is so hilarious imho. But back to the movie. It is about the thaw resulting from global warming. Beneath the ice there is an old parasite reawakened. These bugs infect people and multiply in our bodies. I was never really scared by bug movies and this is no exception. The bugs are CGI, but it is not that obvious. Val Kilmer stars as the expedition leader. The main event of the movie is probably the arm chopped off. Not scary, no boobs, no gore, no real horror, just skip this one.

Poltergeist II: the other side - surprisingly good. I expected this to be (a lot) worse than part 1, because, well, you know: Exorcist II, etc. The main cast is the same as in part 1 and for me that is very important, as it adds to immersion in the story. This time, it doesn't take very long before the supernatural kicks in and the family is again under attack from a ghost who wants to kidnap Carol Anne. The ghost takes the form of a priest who turns out to have a macabre past. Although this part wasn't so very strong, the film itself doesn't suffer from it. Well done sequel, not better than part 1, but certainly not worse either. (Mildly) recommended.
Bats - I had been having doubts on this movie, whether I had seen it or not. The screenshots on the back of the disc looked so familiar. It turned out that I had confused it with one of the other 1000 movies with bats that are out there. I had fun watching this one. It is very much over the top with the bats being gigantic, superintelligent and full of bloodlust. The sfx were cool: the bats in trees and buildings were nice little animated monsters, only the large swarms were cgi (I guess). Lou Diamond Phillips and Dina Meyer fight a battle to extinguish these bats, and to succeed they go pretty far. Mildly recommended.
The Curse of her Flesh - the second installment in the "of her flesh" trilogy. Much more story going on in this one, after 20 minutes there had been more dialogue than in the entire first part. This made a lot more fun to watch. Of course there were several scnes in which it was easy to ffwd, but watching this, I had much more the idea of watching a movie than when I was watching part 1. Apparently I had missed one killing in part 1, because they said there were four and I only wrote about two. I missed one, and I had seen one but not concluded that it was a murder (a blowdart to the body - I can see why I didn't think of murder immediately). There were another few killings in this one, a lot more elaborate: poisoned cat's claws, a dildo with a knife hidden in it and poisoned G-strings all make their victims in this sequel. Like I said: a lot more fun than part 1. According to the backside of the DVD, part 3 is even sicker. Let's hope so. Mildly recommended.

The Kiss of her Flesh - the final part in the trilogy about Richard Jennings. They promised that this would be the most extreme part and they were right. This one immediately starts out with a torture scene and after that more killings follow. The weapons are totally weird again: a lobster's claw, poisoned semen (?!?) and electrical earring wiring are among them. Sadly reading this is more exciting than watching the execution of the murders, it mostly is offscreen or very unclear (you don't see anything and then suddenly the victim falls down). After awhile, this turns into a revenge film. This last part is OK-ish. All in all this trilogy starts out very slowly, reaches ikts "film-top" in part 2 and part 3 is the nasty final. In part 3 there is a bit less dialogue than in part 2 and there are also prolongued sex scenes, but it is better than part 1.
Nikos the Impaler - German splatter about a ghost returning from the past and then killing everybody in a very bloody way. It is very gory: everybody dies with bucketloads of blood and gore. And there are a lot of people dying in this movie. The story strecthes it a bit too much: the ghost (who looks like a guy in a samurai suit, with a big mask/helmet) has magic powers too and revives characters from books/movieposters he sees in a shopwindow. That was a bit too much, as was the totally unnecessary scne where Lloyd Kaufmann again shows he is a total idiot. Apart from this, it is a very brainless and enjoyable movie. Recommended, highly if you like gore.

The House of Exorcism - it was very useful to read the backside of the DVD first, because there it said that this was a remake of Lisa and the Devil, with a lot more possessed girl stuff. They did this to have a ride on the success of The Exorcist, released the year before. So I was ready for some Exorcist rip-off, and that is exactly what you get. First I was trying to figure out how the situation was between Lisa and Elena and I started thinking they were the same person, but they are not. I was a bit confused about that, but that is probably because I didn't notice immediately that actually all scenes without the possessed girl are meant to be flashbacks. Roughly, all flashbacks are from Lisa and the Devil and all other scenes are new. The vomit was cool and the possession looks great. The part at the house was a little less entertaining, mainly because of it's pace. Still, enjoyable enough, especially when you watch this as I did: as an Exorcist rip-off first class. Recommended.
Indecent Desires - like the Of Her Flesh-trilogy, this is also from the American Grindhouse collection. But that's where the similarities end. This was a weird movie: a guy finds a doll and a ring in a trashcan. He takes them home, puts on the ring and then starts feeling up the doll. As if that is not weird enough, these feelings are transmitted to a girl named Anne: whenever the guy (he looks and acts like a social loser) toches the doll, she feels like she is being touched. This brings her in some awkward situations, especially when her boyfriend is around. Well, what follows is more of the same and then some more even. Then the end. Which was kind of cheap, imo. If you're into weird cinema, check this one out. All others: avoid.
The Giant Spider Invasion - yeehaa! US countryside gets to see a crashing meteor, but when weird stones are coming out of the crater it left, some people start to wonder. The stones turn out to be eggs: spidereggs. Out crawl the spiders, and after a while they suddenly have grown into giant furballs. And some of them even grow out to be superhuge fake spiders with superfake eyes (they are white and there are only two of them, which is kind of sad for a spider). At first nobody believes the stories on the spiders of course, but then the army arrives and they are going to do something about the spiders. Really great turd, I loved the sfx, they were so amateuristic. A must see for bad moviefans.
Popcorn - a group of friends is having a horror marathon in an old theater and they are trying to make it an incredible show with assets like a mosquito-model which is gliding over the audience during a specific scene of the movie "Mosquito". But, all of a sudden, a part of the legendary movie "Possessor" is shown, and this movie is legendary because it's director murdered his wife onstage while it was shown to the public for the first time. Now the director is back to kill some more. Some nice killings follow (the killing of the sfx guy was the best), it is enjoyable enough until the end, but it isn't superspecial or anything. The atmosphere is great, thoiugh: it is a mix between early 90s atmosphere and the atmosphere you get when you visit horror marathons (or, as they call it over here: Night of Bad Taste). The way the killer meets his demise is funny. Recommended.

City in Panic - thriller about a serial killer who carves an "M" in the backs of the victims. A radio talkshowhost is in a feud with a columnist while the killer is loose in the city. Both the host and the columnist want to catch the killer, only they differ greatly on how it should be done. The police asks the host to help them cath the killer and from that moment on, the movie rolls. It is not very hard to guess who the killer is, my first guess was right, although I thought the final explanation was a bit far fetched (a viewer couldn't have known all those facts). Still, quite nice film.
Warning from Space - bwaha, sometimes you think what got into the heads of the people who made the films you're watching. Warning from Space is such a movie. Aliens are gonna infiltrate earth's population in order to save their planet (where did I hear that one before?). They have a problem, which is their looks: they look like giant five point stars with an eye in the middle. Yes, for real. So they transform one of them into a woman they have seen on a picture. This alien still can do supertricks, like jumping 10 meters into the air at a tennisgame. Well, the story is not so interesting, but there is so much bad stuff in it that it is a must see for bad moviefans.
Zombie Diaries - the story of an outbreak which causes zombie-ism, followed through the lenses of several people who kept a video diary. I must say, it was quite nice. It reminded me of REC from time to time and although that movie is better, this is a nice effort too. The gore is OK, there is enough action/tension variety and all in all I think this was OK enough to recommend. Be aware of the ending, though. It might feel as a bummer.

Red Canyon (2008) - Some annoying twenty-somethings vacation at a friend's family home in a rural town with a violent history. I really enjoyed the core story of the low-budged Red Canyon as it reminded me of classic exploitation/hicksploitation stories set in the modern western US. I was consistently entertained and pleased with the plot revelations that occurred throughout. Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead stars.
Ticking Bomb (2011) - Cuba Gooding Jr. stars in this half-brained thriller about a methodical serial killer whose victims all lead back to a young orphan. The cinematography and acting are poor, though the investigative reporter cliches were a bit of fun to jeer at. There are two half-hearted gore efforts at the beginning that fall flat and it's all downhill from there. One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time.
The Collector (2009) - The Collector is about a guy who needs to burgle some valuables from a house to clear some debt from a loan shark, but a masked psychopath has already broken in, booby trapped the entire house, and is exacting some incredible brutality on some unlucky folks. The diverse collection of traps and ways people die in this film is entertaining in itself. The movie succeeds as a whole as the burglar fights to survive and tries to save a person or two along the way.

Mmm, maybe I'll click Red Canyon. Collector sounds a bit like Saw extended. Ghost Son - ghost story from Lamberto Bava. After her husband died, Stacey (played by Laura Harring, damn I forgot how hot she looks) decides it is best to stay in the farm+house they bought somewhere in South Africa. Her housemaid, a young African girl, tells her about lcal voodoo stuff and when strange things start to happen in the house, the girl refuses to come by any longer. Stacey sees her dead hsuband from time to time and wishes he was still alive. Then, after a while it turns out she is pregnant. When the baby is finally born he starts to act weird. This part especially is kind of creepy. Stacey sees her dead husband in her baby at times, which is a bit scary and a bit sick too. From then on, it goes onwards to a climactic decision by Stacey. I was surprised by this movie. I had never heard of it before and actually it is quite good. Atmosphere is right, Pete Postlethwaite and Laura Harring deliver great performances. Recommended. The Toxic Avenger - and now for something completely different. While Ghost Son was kind of a serious horror, this one is all but. It was a nice change of pace The storyline is very, very simple, the fights are funny and the rare dumb joke is OK. I was relieved that Lloyd Kaufmann for once doesn't show up in a Troma movie, it is really a plus or the movie. This is a classic which everyone should have seen at least once. Recommended, just don't expect a good movie (if you do, then tell me so I can laugh at you).

Heartless: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1220214/ I rarely post here, but I really think you guys should check this one out. It´s a really different horror story about a kid with a (not so much) deformed face that makes a deal with the Devil ("Faust", anyone?). I know it doesn't sound very different, but trust me, it is. Good plot twists, good acting, some good gore and a damm fine story. Give this one a chance, you won't be sorry.

I did not finish Heartless. Felt like an utter waste of time. Certainly not one of the usual low quality crap I love to rant about, but I felt the story was so thinly spread that even with fast forward I was bored. Cut it to ~15 minutes and you have a nice short movie.

Mega Shark Vs Crocosaurus - Asylum brings us a mindless stupid creature feature once more. This one is ugly bad CGI galore, there is so much of it, that I'd rather have them animate the entire movie and leave the real actors out, it will improve the movie a lot. The storyline is too simple for small children even and the improbabilities pile up by the minute. After the previous one they managed to make a movie based on the fact that the megalodon wasn't dead. This time the two monsters end up in an exploding underseas volcano and I'm sure that doesn't mean they're dead either. So brace yourself for Mega Shark plus Crocosaurus vs Something Even More Idiotic. Only recommnended if you want to see something really bad.
Lynch Mob - mmm, don't really know what to say about this one. It has mafia, a pedophile who is a torturer for said mafia, the police of course and a village with 12 inhabitants, people who are cursed because they hang their slaves during the Civil War. They are doomed to live forever in their village Lynchburg, hungry for human flesh. The pedophile gets caught and is convicted to live in Lynchburg. Soon the mafia finds him anyway and they start hunting him (he was trying to molest a girl earlier, so they're pretty mad at him), but they have to deal with the undead villagers too. Enough gore, sadly it is quite ugly gore and some nice jokes. It is really over the top, this one. I loved the way the pedophile gets it near the end. Not a good movie, but you might have fun watching it anyway.

I'd be surprised otherwise... lol. The end is what ties it all nicely, and I do agree that they could have made it shorter but 15 minutes just wouldn't cut it. Perhaps an hour... Still enjoyed it a lot.

White Pongo - 40s movie about a white gorilla which is judged the missing link between ape and man. In search for this missing link, there is a group of scientists, but there is also a subplot going on about a criminal wanting everything for himself, bla, bla. The guys in gorilla suits look cute, but this is a very forgettable movie.
Twice Dead - a family moves into a house of which the townspeople say it is haunted by the ghost of an actor who lost his love to another man. They get into a fight with the local gang, who continue to harrass the family. When the kids are alone for a weekend, they try and trick the gang into a scary trap, but is all this scary stuff fake, or is there a real ghost too? Nice effects, nice acting, good story. Another 80s movie that I love. Recommended.
Nightmares - four horror tales, told in "chapters". Chapter 1 has William Sanderson and it is about a serial killer on the loose. Chapter 2 has Emilio Estevez who plays a gaming king who gets too absorbed by a game. Chapter 3 has Lance Henriksen as a priest fighting the devil in a car. Chapter 4 has Veronica Cartwright and is about a huge rat with minions, terrorising a family in their home. The last one lasts the longest, and is the best too, imo. All the other ones seem to lack something. Especially the first one is over so soon, there is no time for any development or anything. All of the chapters could have used some extra time to conclude the stories properly. Now it seemed like a hasty job. Still, what you do get to see is good. Good acting, nice music. Mildly recommended, keep in mind the stories are short.
Head Of The Family - good movie to conlude the night with. Full Moon makes them in a great way. A weird family has their body functions enhanced on one place and they share that with the others. So, the guy with the super eyes and ears, can transfer his information to the guy with the superbrain. Then there is this conman (who reminded me of Lost's Sawyer, not only because he is a conman too, but also because of his looks) who is having an affair with another man's wife. He is planning for the future and has a great plan to get a lot of money from the weird family by blackmailing them. This plan is tackled by the Head of the Family, but the conman is not defeated so easily. Who will win this battle? Great effects, some nice acting, some B-movie acting. I enjoyed it a lot. Recommended.

Had some friends over for a movienight yesterday and we watched three movies together: Oblivion - I had already seen Oblivion II, so I knew about all characters and the monsters. I had fun watching this, although I must say I liked part 2 better. Maybe that's because it was all new to me then, but still. Lash was my favourite character in this one too. Some facepalm jokes, the scorpions looked gorgeous again. It is an OK watch for bad moviefans. Class of Nuke 'Em High - Troma take on the rebellious kids and their teachers who fight back at one point. This has a special treat with toxic waste and its effects. Some kids are infected by it and it also creates a large Alien-like monster. A gang goes on a rampage in the school and what I really liked was that they incorporate the German teacher: she becomes one of the gangmembers (her new gang outfit looks hilarious!). Again, it is all way over the top, but that is someything you should always expect from a Troma movie. And for a Troma, this is a good one. Recommended. Blacksnake! - one of the very few Russ Meyer films with a storyline. It is about a tropical island where a woman is boss over a lot of slaves. They have to cut cane and are ordered around by a bully with a whip. There are some thoughts of rebellion, but all who flee or attempt to do so are punished heavily. When an Englishman arrives at the plantation, he chooses the side of the slaves, calling for a more humane treatment. The woman just isn't made for humanity and continues her harsh regime, until the slaves don't take it anymore. Like I said, this is more storyline than in almost all Meyer films I've seen already put together. It was quite entertaining. Maybe this is his best film after Faster Pussycat... The end is great, I loved how it came out. Recommended. Keep in mind it's a Meyer, though. When they left I was hungry for more, so I watched two more: Picasso Trigger - it was a while ago since I watched a Sidaris, but soon I recogmised his trademarks: slick looking bad guys, big breasted agents hunting them with all sorts of explosives attached to stuff like remote controlled cars or boomerangs. So we had our fair share of explosions and bad guys killing or being killed. Two things were kind of special about this one: there weren't so many sexscenes and the plottwist was one I didn't see coming. Of course this doesn't make it a good movie Ghost Lake - zombiefilm on an artifical lake which flooded a village. Every 13 years the villagers return to make new victims. A girl who recently lost her parents goes to the village by the side of the lake but the 13 years have passed again and she is up against some of the living dead. Before we get there in the movie however, a lot of time has been wasted on weak character development and some ghostlike storyline which doesn't seem to have anything to do with the main plot. The zombie action is saved or the last 30 minutes and there isn't much of it. There is almost no gore and the plottwist in the end is not really surprising. If this has been 80-90 minutes long it maybe would have been a nice flick, but with a running time of 105 or so minutes, this film is a bit of a drag. Also, my DVD had this stupid handicap of not having the film in one piece, but in 4 pieces, making the disc spin up again every 25 minutes or so. Very annoying. If you have your last two zombieflicks on the shelf and this is one of them, pick the other one and make it your last.
