Make Out With Violence - weird but fascinating film. It isn't really horror, but since there is a zombie in it, I'll classify it as horror anyway. The story is simple, there is a girl who is loved by many boys (among whom is one of twins), but then she dies. After a short while, some of the boys find her body and she turns out to have turned into a zombie. They keep her at the house of a friend who is away for a while and in that period of time the main part of the story is being played. The twin brother who loved the zombiegirl takes care of her, while his twin brother is working on setting up a relationship with the former best friend of the zombiegirl. It is all a bit weird, it reminded me a lot of Donnie Darko in terms of atmosphere. However, it kept me wanting to know what was gonna happen next. Good film, recommended. Treasure of the Amazon - I thought this was a cannibal flick, but it isn't. There aren't any real cannibal scenes, but there are some of the jungle cliches, like animals eating each other or natives cutting up a crocodile. The story evolves around a few persons looking for gold: an adventurer named Gringo, an ex-nazi and a few other guys. There are some hilarious scenes in which the characters do totally illogical stuff, like when the girl is left alone by her companion Dick: upon hearing footsteps she starts shooting wildly in the bushes around her, and when Dick emerges, she embraces him and says "I heard footsteps and I thought it was you" So if you like stuff like that, go watch this one. Prepare for a long watch, though, as this one lasts for almost two hours. Recommended for bad moviefans.

Let the Right one In (2008): Finally I watched this Swedish horror. It's about a boy called Oskar who meets a strange girl called Eli. I don't think I spoil anything by saying that that Eli is a vampire. Oskar falls in love with Eli and in return for his love Eli helps him to cope with a some bad kids from school. I liked the atmosphere of the movie and thought that the acting was nice. What I didn't like was the scene in the indoor swimming pool near the end. That felt out of the place. If you are into vampire movies in which vampires are mindless blood suckers then this is no movie for you.
The Hurt Locker (2008): This one won 6 Oscars, so I had high expectations. I mast admit that was expecting something different. Only after the movie was over and I was thinking about it for some time did I realise what this movie was about. The plot is pretty much non existent. There are soldiers in Iraq defusing bombs. The movie shows you a country in which everybody on the streets could be a bomber / terrorist. And the protagonist of the movie feels at home here. He can't reintegrate into where he came from. For war is a drug. There are of course others that just want to get out of the "fucking desert".
Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man (1991): Mickey Rourke (without plastic surgery!) and Don Johnson star in this biker action movie. They need to help an old friend to get some money. So they rob a money transporter. Unluckily there are drugs in the transporter and the drug dealer wants it back pretty badly and begins killing their friends. I had fun watching this one as the jokes are good and the chemistry between Rourke and Johnson is great.
The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane (1990): I heard some good things about this movie. I was a bit disappointed after seeing it. It is supposed to be an action comedy. The movie itself has a kind of 80s feeling with rock music. The plot is interesting and the characters are very likeable. Unfortunately the jokes in this movie are so dumb, most of them are not funny at all. Most of them have to do with swearing. Robert Englund was nice and Lauren Holly was pretty hot.

Man with the Screaming Brain - Bruce Campbell starring in and directing this movie: making it took him almost 20 years. It's about a guy whose brain gets connected with that of his former taxi driver. This after both had died, and by the hands of a mad scientist (cool role, played by Stacy Keach). The result of two brains in one body means that left and right side don't correspond: they lead their separate lives, which leads to some funny and some unfunny stuff. The subplot is about the women formerly belonging to both Bruce and to the taxidriver. I had funwatching this one, when you're a Campbell fan you won't be disappointed.
Savage Beach - it had been a while since I had seen a Bullets, Bombs and Babes film. This is the last one I hadn't seen yet, and I wasn't disappointed. A nice and pretty ludicrous story about a batch of gold on a Pacific island, guarded by a Japanese soldier from WWII (his make up looked ridiculous). The gold is wanted by several groups, American intelligence, Filippino revolutionaries, Japanese descendants, etc. This makes it quite over the top again, and with the usual weaponry present (Steyr Aug and crossbow with explosive arrows) it is gonna be partytime on the island! Recommended for bad moviefans.
Moon of the Wolf - quite straightforward werewolf movie. From the start you know who the wolf is unless you didn't read the synopsis. The wolf action is only in the final part of the film, and even then it is a bit tame. Not much blood or action to be seen, and we never get to see the man change into a wolf. Very mediocre, but there are worse ways to waste your time, that's for sure.

Mark of the Devil - aka Hexen bis aufs Blut gequält. In a village, a guy abuses his powers by denouncing every other woman as a witch and having them burnt to death. When a new witchfinder arrives, with a young assistant (played by a very young Udo Kier), they want to do justice, especially the assistant. After a while, the old habit returns and more and more women are accused of witchcraft again. Some men too, btw. They get tortured a lot and we get to see how they are tortured, I must say some ways are quite inventive (but cruel, of course). In the end, the assistant turns against his master, but will he be able to save the villagers? Nice exploitation flick with a lot of beautiful but unknown actresses, for example Doris von Danwitz. I liked it, some nice goofs too. Recommended for bad moviefans.
Something Weird - not so typical Herschell Gordon Lewis film, about a guy who gets psychic powers after being hit by an electrical cable: now he can "see" things, but his face is deformed by the burns of the cable. A witch comes to him to offer him a pretty face, he has to be her lover in return. He accepts and his psychic powers are being used by the police to solve a murder case. The witch is always by his side, but he is the only one who sees her the way she really looks: everyone else sees her as a beatiful woman. The ending of this story was quite stupid, imo. Felt a bit uninspired, although the possibility to make a sequel was nicely put in. Still, this is a nice Lewis film and it luckily lacks a lot of the unfunny jokes which are so typical of his other films (Colour Me Blood Red comes to mind).
Down Town - wtf? A story which takes up like 80% of the screentime instead of softporn scenes? Yes, indeed. This film almost resembles a giallo, because the private eye who is hired to make photographs of a cheating husband, gets confronted with different women after he has completed the assignment and in the end turns out to be framed for several crimes. Nice story, I really liked it. The best Franco I have seen in a while, recommended. No horror though, mind you.
Frankenhooker - I saved the best for last today. This Henenlotter film is really cool unless you were in for something serious. I can't understand the fact that people review this movie so badly because of some effects: it is comedy, people! Besides, what do you expect from a film called "Frankenhooker"? I had great fun watching this 80s galore film with corny music, ridiculous clothing and exploding hookers. A guy loses his girlfriend because she got run over by one of his machines and cut to pieces. He sets out to put her back together and therefore he gathers some prostitutes to get the pieces he needs. Hilariousness ensues! Highly recommended, just keep in mind to not take it seriously.

Baywatch: Hawaiian Reunion - haha, this is so superobviously a milk cow to cash in for some of the ex-stars of Baywatch that it is almost too embarassing to watch. The story is extremely flat, the fighting scenes are ridiculous (in the way you keep laughing at them) and the amount of plastic surgery on screen at any time is above critical levels. The supervillain does tricks which no one in his right mind would ever consider as they are so dumb. This is a plastic watch away movie, where all former Baywatch babes and hunks parade across your screen a few times. The Gore Gore Girls - strippers get killed, and a female journalist hires a private eye to find out who does the killing. There are everal suspects: a Vietnam vet, some feminist activists, and so on. The private eye is overly smartass all the time, and besides working on the case, a lovestory is developing between him and the journalist (yawn). Some really gory kills and some very weird ones, like a woman who gets spanked to death with a meat hammer and another one who gets worked on with an iron. Enjoyable enough and luckily no unfunny jokes. The Revenge of Hercules - Italian peplum which is supercheesy. In the opening scnes, Hercules fights a superfake Cerberus first, and after that a guy in a batsuit comes sliding down, the threads are all too visible After that, a cliche story develops, and even more superbad effects can be seen, with threads visible all the time, obviously foam rocks and stone pillars, and exaggerated falling over of enemies which are beaten down by Hercules. I had a great laugh, highly recommended for bad moviefans. Daughter of Darkness - early Stuart Gordon film where one of my teenage crushes Mia Sara goes to Romania to find out about her father after her mother has died. She finds a lot of clues about her father, but not the man himself. SHe hears he is dead, but then she doesn't really believe that. With the help of a taxidriver she goes on a research to her dad, but then she encounters a group of vampires who aren't willing to help her at all. Nice and atmospheric film, but is a bit too simple, there is no depth in it. The twist was all too predictable and the make up of the vampires is too much. Enjoyable, but nothing really special.

Barbed Wire Dolls - the majority of the Franco regulars gather together once more and perform this classic WIP film in which there is of course a woman who is wrongly accused of murder and there is the sadistic (lesbian) warden who performs sexual acts on the prisoners. The best part in this film is the flashback of Maria (Lina Romay) in which she sees herself being abused by her father. It is supposed to be in slow motion, but instead of filming it normally and then playing the film in slow motion, they played it normal speed and acted it out like they were in slow motion, which looks totally laughable. Cliche galore, but it is a nice classic in the genre.
The Case of the Bloody Iris - aka Perché quelle strane gocce di sangue sul corpo di Jennifer? Another example of a giallo where the English title makes more sense, because they actually do find an iris on the floor with blood spots on it, while the Italian title, well, just doesn't get realised in this film. Edwige Fenech performs well as a model who moves into a house where some people were murdered recently. After a while, she works together with the police in order to catch the murderer. Nice giallo, I guessed the killer right pretty soon, but the acting and how the story evolves is good. I liked the way they try to make you think certain stuff. Recommended.
Witchfinder General - in a review of Mark of the Devil I read that the scriptwirters of that movie must have been inspired by this one, so I feared it would be very much the same. Since I had seen 9 movie inbetween the two, I thought it's be OK. To my surprise the similarities were only on the level of the main theme of the film: there is a village where people get accused of witchcraft, and the witchfinder abuses his power to get some female attention, after that he does the convictions and finds some opposition. All other stuff, the torturing, the way the people were executed, the background story (this one had the English civil war, there even was a scene with Cromwell in it) and the ending were different. I liked it very much, Vincent Price is superb in this role. Recommended.
Slugs - nice and gory, this monsterfilm doesn't have any pretentions and simply sets out to please gorehounds like me. Like in all other monsterfilms, there has been a mutation caused by toxic waste and now the slugs in the surroundings have teeth and grow to enormous sizes. The story simply serves as making possibilities for gory scenes, like the one where two teenagers are making love on a bed and then they get attacked by a large crowd of slugs and they both succumb. In this way the slugs were a bit like zombies: slow, in large masses and lethal. Some cool goofs and bad dubbing of the Spanish actors make this film complete. Highly recommended for bad moviefans.
With these movies I have reached a certain milestone. Apart from some 20 films which are in my living room on display, I have seen all horrormovies on DVD in my collection. I had to, because the space I was using to store my collection, will get a new use and the DVD collection will be boxed and stored in the attic. This means that in the coming weeks/months I'm gonna watch different stuff. I'll return to horror in a while, because my HDD is still full of stuff.

Revolver (2005): As prisoner is released he immediately starts executing his plan on revenge. In prison he developed the perfect strategy to defeat anybody at gambling. This is one WTF? movie. The plot might sound simple but it gets quite complicated. A lot of people in the movie does not exist and are only made up in the mind of the protagonist. It feels like a lot of things are happening that you just can't understand and you wait for the conclusion at the end that just does not come. The movie is suddenly over and you just feel like WTF?... As usual when a movie leaves me pondering, I visited the IMDb page to look for some conclusions. They are quite vague. Not a good movie imho. They also mixed in some comic sequences that were out of the place imho. It looked like they wanted to create an arty cool movie. Meh.

Back from the break of horror. Here is what I have seen since May 4: One Eyed Monster - a must see for bad moviefans, this monsterflick in wich the monster is an alien, which is housed in... a penis. Ron Jeremy stars in this Oscar material, and next to him we can see Amber Benson and some relics from old age like Charles Napier. The flat storyine is about a porncrew filming in the mountains when this alien appears, how appropriate. One by one the crew gets killed, or do they? I had great fun watching this and I have ripped it for your viewing pleasure. It will come to a HDD near you in several weeks time I guess. Der Golem - classic B/W movie about the famous monster which protected the jews in Prague. Recommended, it is beatifully made. The Pack - originally called La Meute, it is about a roadside diner somewhere in France where a legend goes around about a bunch of brothers having been killed in the mine nearby. They still come back for blood every other night or so. A girl goes missing and a private eye is on the case when he gets into the diner. This is where the journey starts. I must say that I expected something lciche with a disfynctional family and some deformed guys, but it was much more. Not superb maybe, but decent enough and a little surprise at the end. Recommended. The Fanglys - very low budget film (a few hundredthousand bucks went into this) which you may love or hate. Storyline is far from original, but acting is OK and the music was cliche in a good way: it reminded me of the 80s classics like ROTL. So I ad some fun watching this one, although it wasn't the best I had seen in ages. Mildly recommended but keep in mind that it is low budget. Tokugawa (Shoguns Joy) - Japanese torture film which plays in the 17th century. There are three stories in which people get tortured a lot and sometimes they die and sometimes there is some sort of revenge on the torturer. It's a bit like nazisploitation, it is very straightforward. The storyline leads inevitably to (long) sessions of torture where there is some crfeativity in the torture room too. One story is about an incestuous relationshoip, the second is about nuns wanting the monks from the neighbouring monastery and the third is about a tattooist who wants to make the ultimate tattoo. It has an arty feel all over it, which makes it a tad weird. Not for everyone. Zoltan, hound of Dracula - wow, an SBiG fest like a school example! Accidentally, some soldiers uncover an old tomb of Dracula's family. One of the servants and his dog are revived. Then Zoltan, the dog, and the servant take off to California where there is the last one in line from the Dracula family (the fact that he has two children is overlooked), to become the servants of this new master. Full of nice SBiG moments, like the repeating barking of the shepherd's dog (it becomes annoying when you know it barks the same all the time), and the repeating calling of Zoltan: (dog sniffsa round a house, checking the windows) "Zoltan! Zoltan! Zoltan! Zoltan! Zoltan! No! No, Zoltan! Zoltan! Zoltan! Zoltan! Zoltan! No! No, Zoltan! Zoltan! Zoltan! Zoltan! Yes, Zoltan!" Efgfects are great too Recommended, if not highly, for bad moviefans.

Had a weird weekend because my daughter was born Saturday, but since my wife and the kid had to stay at the hospital and I was sent home, I celebrated the birth of my newborn by watching two movies: Demented Death Farm Massacre - adopted by Troma after Fred Olen Ray bought this indy film and then added some scenes with John Carradine as a preacher, this film is not so bad as you might expect. The storyline isn't very original, but the performances are OK-ish. After a robbery went awry, the criminals end up on a farm where the buxom woman of the house receives them with Southern hospitality. When her husband finds out about the real nature of their guests however, things start to go wrong. Effects are laughable, but there is enough gore to go around for 80 minutes. I had fun watching this, but it's not really worth a recommendation. Just check if you think you'll like it. Hemoglobin - heh, the guy (Michael) from the La Femme Nikita series, is now a visitor to an island where there are only women. With his wife he is trying to find a cure for his disease. Rutger Hauer is helping him as a retired drunk doctor, but interviewing an old lady does the trick in the end and gives him the key to his family backgrounds. It also solves the fact that several people have disappeared into the ground. Fun film, quite good buildup. Hauer is nice. Recommended. In the near future I will see a film from time to time but I won't be able to see the amounts I was used to. But I don't really mind Since I have vacation until September, I will be able to see various movies anyhow.

Thanks, chup Silent Night, Bloody Night - low budget early slasher. Image quality on my DVD was bad, which impeded enjoying the movie a bit. The story is OK, about a madhouse which is sold to a guy decades after it was used. The new owner starts to investigate when he finds out about the building's origins, and then a plot unravels about murders. New killings take place, and then the guessing can start. The explanation comes in one final sepia flashback, which is nice on one hand and a bit boring on the other: it would have been nicer to get more hints during the film itself. Mad Dogs - weird English film set in London "one year from now" where a mad dog disease has broken out and the government is pursuing dogs holocaust-style. There is this guy Rabbie Burns who hears voices and he is in therapy for it with some sort of a crook doctor. Because this man doesn't really help him, he seeks help with his girlfriend Narendra who is a TV reporter. Her boss dies in a freak accident and when they are gonna look for a solution to the mystery which is happening around them (the voices become visible in a person wearing a pig's nose on the TV and people start dying like Narendra's boss while all the time the dog control units are searching the canine friends of man), they meet a bum with a saxophone who knows more about the strange stuff happening. Together they are gonna try and solve it. Very weird at times, this film makes you laugh and also has a message. It is a mixture between cyberpunk-like scifi, mystery thriller/horror (no gore) and comedy. Recommended.

Silent Night (2002): It was kind of strange to watch a Christmas movie in mid-summer. Why did they air this now? It is about a cabin near the front line in which Linda Hamilton is living with his young son. It takes place at the end of WW2 near Christmas. Soon American and German soldiers seek shelter in the cabin. The housewife convinces the opposing soldiers to put down their weapons and spend Christmas eve together. I liked the conflicts of the German and American soldiers. The actor playing the German Lieutenant was great. The fake German accent of several actors was funny. It all made up for a nice Christmas movie.

To The Devil A Daughter - having a daughter now and drinking some Duvel (Belgian beer, "Duvel" means devil), I sat down to watch this Hammer classic. A late one at that, but Christopher Lee is in good shape while performing his role as a preacher who has turned to the dark side and is planning on letting some sort of antichrist being born. Not very original, I know, but the film's setup is such that you keep being interested throughout. Good job of the cast, although Natassia Kinski sometimes seems to be out of this world a bit (she appeared to be stoned or something). Recommended.

1990: The Bronx Warriors - Enzo Castellari ripped off Escape from New York and made this. It is hilarious! The Bronx (which is next to Brooklyn Bridge in this film ) is a wasteland and it is ruled by gangs. Wasteland is quite relative, because there are many people still driving through, or playing basketball in this wasteland. The leader of the main gang is so gay, yopu have to see it to believe it. There are many gangs, and one is even more idiotic than the other. There are tapdancers, rollerskaters with German helmets, some sort of cavemen, etc. The story is superflat, but it has scenes which are unforgettable, like the scene in which the gang spreads the ashes of one of their fallen comrades. With dramatic music in the background they one by one throw some ashes into the wind next to Brooklyn Bridge (again) and none of the ashes actually ends up in the river. Outfits are so wrong and 80s, when you like bad movies, you must watch this one. Highly recommended for bad moviefans. Zombiegore - a no budget Dutch gorefest with no storyline. First and foremost: don't take this film seriously! The sole purpose of this film is to show loads of gore and to laugh. Effects are superbad, the zombie shooting scene around the 30 minute mark had me laughing out loud, the humour is very dry. There are some weird weapons of which you wonder why the people carrying them, hadn't been using them before. The umbrella to keep the trunk of the car open is also a nice detail, especially if you watch for it's position changing all the time. The Dutch accent in the English spoken dialogue (there isn't much of that, btw) is very thick. I had a great time watching this, laughing my as off for almost the entire time. I had to get into it, but as soon as you accept the lousy quality and the crappiness of the film as a whole, then you can have a great time! Highly recommended for bad moviefans.

Saint Martyrs of the Damned - not your everyday film, this one. French-Canadian made, this movie is about Flavien, a guy who works for a "sensational news" newspaper. He gets sent out to a village where people disappear. On his way to it, he sees a ghost of a bride on the road, but his friend and photographer Armand doesn't see her. Arriving at the hotel, they see some strange persons. In the night, Armand disappears and Flavien starts looking for him. Very, very slowly he unravels a mystery in the village and he finds out a lot about himself too. This is a movie where you have to think a little. No(t much) gore, but a complicated plot. I read several reviews which say that it's plot is way too overcomplicated, but I disagree. Just keep paying attention and you will manage. I didn't 100% and I didn't get lost, although I do agree on the fact that it could have been a little shorter. Beautiful film, recommended, if not highly.

Who Can Kill A Child? - aka ¿Quién puede matar a un niño?. Very creepy Spanish horror from the 70s. Children are for me the most fearsome horror characters (best examples are The Omen and Pet Sematary), and a friend tipped me off about this one. I owe him, because it is a great film and I got scared a few times indeed. The film is long, but it also delivers. I can imagine that some people think it is too long, but I also think we lack the patience nowadays to sit through a film like this. Old-fashioned character development and some genuinely creepy moments! Story in short is about a couple who move to an island in the mediterranean, only to find out there are only children there. They investigate and when they find out the reason why, they try to get off the island, but that's easier said than done. Very good ending, although it had been done before. Highly recommended!
