i know that usually admins/IPS's close 4662 port for incoming conections.
that means u still can run emule, but u have LOWID. so u work like in "passive mode".
in my case, incoming conections r alowed, but outgoing - nope.
admin/isp r really nasty and bed...

run
netstat or another programm
and c ur connections
u'll c that most of remote points for emule conections r
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:4662

Prayer, THAT IS NOT TRUE

I DO NOT USE PORT 4662 AND DO NOT HAVE LOW ID, which part of that do you not understand ??
There is NO traffic on port 4662 either to or from my machine as it is blocked in my firewall.
You do not have to have low ID either, but you may have to change your router and emule configuration.

doh
seems my language and mind r poor enough.
that's why i'll never be a teacher..
i will kill children after 5 min. of lesson...
well, not 4662 but 4661... default port as i said
that's not a deal with lowid or sumthing else.
i know 100% that emule ports r closed for outgoing connections.
all other ports r opened.
and i just can not run emule...
i always had LOwID before..
but now i can not run it.
that's the problem...

and yeah, i tried port 80 (i can surf), 21 (i can connect to ftp on that port)
but emule? nope, i c a few of sources, and all of them have not standart emule ports.
in netstat i c that my emule tries to connect to many peoples with 4661 port, but it never becomes any respond. becouse router (i dont have access) cut off them...
i know, it's pretty weird... but that's the situation.

I don't use 4661 either, Prayer. I'll try again :-

I do not use any of the "standard" ports in emule and I have a HIGH ID and can see everyone :)
You can too, if you were prepared to set your router up properly and change a few things in emule.

I think part of the problem is that you see emule as having set ports, it doesn't.

omg
that's not deal about highid or lowid
or WHAT PORT U SET
it's about ports that HAVE MOST of users...
and lol
that's not me
as i said, my ISP did that, to prevent peoples from using emule or any p2p.

and again. outgoing conections closed...

(in the case of closed ports for incoming conections u will just get LowID)

I see whats trying to be said I think, although it's kind in contradiction to a few bits. To clarify, go to the emule-project website --> FAQ and then firewall settings. Rule two.

Normally, if the policy is to block access to port 4662 your ISP blocks local communication on that port. This is easily fixed, your emule sends out a request on another port, lets say, 80. Your port 80 then connects to the other peers port, normally 4662, nothing to do with your service port 4662 at all so you get your sources and your high id. A response is then sent from their port 4662 (if default) and is received by your port 80, however, whilst you are communicating with their pc, there is no interaction with your port 4662 and therefore port blocking is easily circumnavigated. Changing your port bypasses this and you can carry on highid and all.

However, if you mean that your ip is throttling ports, and thusly, not allowing you to connect from those remote ports [ie. blocking remote connections] (I would think that no admin [outside uber secure companies] would do this - the only instances I've found are isps that have blocked outgoing and [remote] incoming communication from port 445 [ to 'protect' against msblast]) then it is hard to eliminate the lowid. If they are blocking remote access coming in, then there is a serious, serious problem and I'd e-mail your isp immediately to clarify what the hell your paying for. Like I mentioned, no one in their right mind would block contact from remote ports :o

Changing your local port does not solve the problem if the isp is infact blocking remote connections on this port. I would send a few e-mails to clarify if they are infact blocking port 4662, why this has been implemented, and if any other remote connections are being denied.. Just to clarify that your router isn't shit/the problem. (what make btw?)

I think that's what PrayeR was trying to say. Although I'm not sure because this was what I was responding to earlier:
Quote:
BUT ALL OUTGOING CONNECTIONS to this port R RESTRICTED!

That's the exact opposite of what I said above, and in this case, it doesn't matter. Outgoing connections can be changed by simply changing ports. If outgoing is blocked, changing ports will work perfectly fine, as it is your port-->his port connection, and in return his port -->your port. Blocked ports do not come into play in that situation.

If they are indeed blocking remote ports, then that's a really serious issue, there can be websites and services out there totally blocked if for example, websites use none standard ports.

I'd switch isp, even if your on contract, they've violated it by not providing the service they claimed.

Prayer is (for once  ) right. I had to do same at a clients - they pay a lot of money for their fast connection and some of their people (ab)used all that bandwidth. ISP wouldn't touch the ports ($$$$), so I'm blocking as follows:

local:4662 <- remote:xxxx - worked at first, but locals reconfigured their mules so that strangers could visit them
local:xxxx -> remote:4662 - prevents locals to visit Swansea and all other places connected by all those lines, lines, lines

As long as vast majority uses standard ports the above works fine enough.

Condolences, Prayer
