Echoes - Fear Itself episode 12. Thos one gave me lots of trouble playing again. Had to put it in the computer and even there the DVD player had trouble with a certain part, which is obviously damaged (thank you guy who sold me this :wacky: ). OK, to the content: a little story about reincarnation related stuff with a murder in the past which seems to repeat itself. Nice setup, acting is good and the twist (although it's not really a twist) was OK, but overall this couldn't hold my interest all the time. Might be partially due to the playback trouble, but this looked like one of the lesser episodes. One more to go, hope it will be good.

Only one episode to go, but if that f*cks me, I sure will :)

Soldiers of the Damned - this is yet another "the nazis want to win the war in the dying seconds and then cause something horror-ish on the Eastern Front" film. British made, the cast doesn't look or sound German at all: gingers with cockney accents in Wehrmacht unifroms, some of which were poorly made up. Surprisingly, the weaponry was mostly correct (except for a Thompson in German hands in Romania 1944) but all else was ridiculous. The dialogues were tedious and too loong overall, the action was mostly non-horror, as in people shooting each other. The horror came from a forest which was possessed according to legend, but when something happened, it was very short lived and very bad cgi. The "flashbacks" or parallel universal things I didn't udnerstand, but that was also because the film in it's entirety is quite incoherent. The mysterious artifact (which is supposedly gonna win the war for the nazis) is just a green glow from a backpack, I mean: come on! Bad film, there is some stuff for bad moviefans to enjoy, but it's too little to justify the playing of 98 minutes of this garbage.

Hangar 10 - found footage. I should have known, that most of these turn out to be shit, and this one is no exception. Shaky cam overload, uninteresting first half, OK-ish acting but everything which would make it stand out is nullified by the shaky cam, offscreen events which are important, a lot of darkness, etc. etc. The storyline is about a couple and a friend who go on a metal detecting trip in a forest which is infamous for alien sightings. They do it at night because they didn't get permission to detect on the plot, but of course everything goes wrong: they lose their orientation, they can't find their car back, they start wandering off on a shortcut to the nearest road (I mean, how cliche is that), because the land belongs to the military their phones dont work, etc. I must say, some of the explanations given are pretty clever, but they can't hide the fact that this movie isn't worth watching. I had a lot of BWP flashbacks: small group of people wandering through forest being scared in the dark. When one of the three is starting to act strangely, supposedly under the influence of aliens, I had had it with this film. The final scenes are pretty cool, but by then you have lot interest so hard, that you are glad it is over soon.

Amityville II: The Possession - directed by Damiano Damiani, an Italian director who switches genre almost every movie, and this is his horrorfilm. The Amityville Horror is one of my favourite haunted house films, this one is different. It's the same house, and there is also a supernatural evil force within the house, but the story develops in a different way: one fo thew familymembers becomes the means to the evil end of the house's spirit. The focus was more on satanic backgrounds in this film, and the way it climaxes is also surprising
Spoiler:
the oldest son kills off the entire family under the influence of the satanic force, and is then subsequently imprisoned. There, the priest tries to save him and finally succeeds, but the family remains dead of course. This was not what I would have expected, because in the first film there are more surviviors.
Acting was OK, atmosphere was great, and visuals were as you migt expect from an Italian director: I really enjoyed some typical shots, like a close up of the heels of feet climbing stairs, etc. Music was cool, too. Some characters were a little underdeveloped, but on the other hand it helped keeping up the pace. Recommended, this is a nice sequel, which can also be watched separately.

Prisoner of Paradise - trying to complete my nazisploitation collection, I consulted the Exploitation Collection which is on this site. I found this title there, so I bought when I had some leftover cash. Well, I can safely say: this is the most pornographic nazisploiation I have in my collection. Although the director tries to tell a story and there actually are some props and some dialogues, this is mostly meant as hardcore porn whicch goes all the way. Not my thing, really, so I fast forwarded the 5-6 sexscenes, trying to follow the plot., It goes something like this: an American is in China and makes love to his lover girl there. Then he has to go on a mission, but the city where he is gets bombarded. His lover girl dies, and he ends up on a desolate island after a shipwreck. Surprisingly, he can change clothes there, because his trousers are long, then short and then long again. Ultimately, he finds a cabin in which a few nazis and oe H|Japanese woman are hanging out, keeping two American nurses prisoner. And of course they do the most terrible sex things to them. The exploitation is mostly looks: the uniforms and the swastika flags, and there are some ridiculous scenes in which the Americans have to pledge obedience to Hitler and they all "Sieg Heil" for a while. Without the porn, this would be quite a funny B-movie.

Carpathian Eagle - Hammer House of Horror episode 11. Not really horror, this one. It's more a whodunnit and if you really have to guess, you should watch more films. The perpetrator is quite clear from the start, but the way the policeman is kept in the dark and
Spoiler:
finally meets his demise
is well executed. Acting OK, setting not so interesting. The lack of horror disturbed me, this was one of the lesser episodes.

Guardian of the Abyss - Hammer House of Horror episode 12. This was more like it. For variety's sake I should have picked another one, because this was satanic horror just like Amityville II, but I didn't know that before watching and I didn't really care either. A cult is after a certain mirror, which was bought by an antique dealer by coincidence. Her co-worker decides to get more info on it in order to check out the real value of the mirror, but by doing so he confromts the cult a bit too much. They are planning on sacrificing one of their own members, Alyssa, and the man is eager to help her out. But, there is a surprise in store for him. Nice plot twist, acting OK to good. Nice episode.

A little tight on schedule so I picked a short(er) film, ~75 minutes.

Star Leaf - this is a stoner film, because Star Leaf is a type of cannabis which grows in a secret grove in the state of Washington. Two veterans and the girlfriend of one of them are going to travel to the grove, and to do so you have to visit an old hippie-type kind of guy who will give you the map. You also have to obey some rules: no pickings or clippings, no cameras and no GPS and you can't leave a trail. When they arrive on the spot, they smoke some Star Leaf and have a trip (somehow directors and/or scriptwriters still think that you hallucinate when you smoke weed). Then they start to hear noises and they also see creatures, which according to one of them proves that Star Leaf is from outer space and planted by aliens. Not much in this film makes a lot of sense, and it's also all quite forgettable, but it didn't really bother me having watched this, not an entire waste of time like some other "movies" out there. I can't really recommend it either, though.

Gravy - absurdistic film about a Mexican restaurant being invaded by three sadistic people, who aren't just out for some money. They take the crew and some guests hostage, and play games with them, like an imitation of Wilhelm Tell, with a real bow and arrow. The purpose of all this is to eat the hostages, that's why they took over a restaurant, so the cook can prepare his colleagues for the perpetrators. The hostages all react differently to the situation, and while the psychokillers are having fun, eat some but also run into some trouble, the chances of survival for the hostages increase and decrease all the time. It all goes very much out of hand, the ending is quite cool. There are some predictable things going on, but then they have a twist which is refreshing. I regularly thought "what am I watching here?", but I had good fun too. Acting is great and the use of music is funny. There is a lot of gore, so enough to enjoy for almost every type of horrorfan. Recommended.

Invasion of the Astro Monster - a new planet is discovered, Planet X, and two astronauts are being sent to it. The aliens living there are being terrorised by a monster, called Monster Zero (which looks like Ghidorah). They ask the earthlings if they can borrow Godzilla and Rodan, so they can fight Monster Zero, but in fact they want to use the three monsters to conquer the earth. Of course, a Japanese inventor and one of the astronauts (who is also a scientist) save the day with their inventions. The aliens were pretty cool, the monster action is quite scarce in this one. Effects are laughable, with both planets and vehicles equipped with visible threads. The painted planet earth is also something to look out for ;) So, this is a fun Godzilla film, and a bit of an atypical one because of the limited screentime for Godzilla himself.

The Circle - the last episode of Fear Itself. First there is a cursing scene with a coven of witches, then after the opening credits we go to a cabin in the woods, where a writer with a writer's block has planed a weekend for him and his wife. But she has other plans, she wants to get him going with the next book, so she invited his publisher, his agent and a third person of whom I forgot who she was. There is knocking on the door, and a book is delivered by two trick or treat girls. The book contains a story which becomes true when they read it: the cabin is engulfed in darkness and the people are becoming bloodthirsty infected, like the characters from the writer's first book. Pretty nice story, I liked it. Because they started with the cursing scene you knew how this was gonna end and I'd rather have seen it kept secret for us (although then it would be a bit out of the blue). Still, I liked this one and I think it is one of the better episodes.

Growing Pains - last episode of Hammer House of Horrors (episode 13). William, a 10-year old boy drinks poison from his father's lab and his parents decide to take an orphan into their home so they can still have a son. This boy, James, behaves very oreryl, but asks strange questions, of which especially the mother doesn't know what to think. Strange things start happening too, like a toy rabbit being torn apart covered in blood in the boy's room. Both parents are very busy, and on the day the father receives a very important visit, many things go wrong. They finally find out what is behind all these strange doings... OK episode, pretty predictable. Acting OK, the James boy was good. Not the best but certainly not the worst either.

Hey, look who crawled out of the darkness ;)

The Exorcism of Molly Hartley - starts out OK, it's a good take on the exorcism theme. The story about the priest failing and ending up in an institution is nice and quite original. It is very predfictable how he will become involved in the exorcism story, but if you don't mind, then it is still a nice ride. Molly Hartley, played by the nice looking Sarah Lind, has been possessed since she was 18, and now that she is 24, it's time for the demon to come out. This exorcism will have consequences. though. Not only storywise, but for the entire film it would have been better if they would have just stopped there. What follows is a ludicrous, totally incredible and incoherent plot twist which doesn't make sense, even if you believe in all this crap. They are even contradicting themselves about how stuff should happen for the rebirth, etc bla bla. Shame, as it might have been a solid entry into the exorcism subgenre, but now this movie just goes out of the bend and drags you along with it on it's way down in the last 30 or so minutes. Some acting was nice, the settings were nice too. Music OK and effects were tolerable, except for those stupid cgi insects, they looked ugly. I hope the next exorcism film gives me the creeps again, man, how I long for that.

Dead Rising: Watchtower - mmm, a two hour movie with zombies, could it be something or will it bore me to death? Based on a computergame, expectations were low, but the film starts up pretty good, takes up the pace real fast and then it's quite a nice ride of zombies, explosions and entertainment. The story is about a town in quarantine, people inside have been bitten by zombies and for some time they have been successfully using a drug against it: Zombrex. Now it turns out that the ombrex isn't working anymore and an outbreak seems close. A reporter and his camerawoman want the scope so they go deep into this in order to find out what's going on. They get separated and the reporter finds some survivors with whom he tris to get out of the quarantine, while the camerawoman discovers a whole lot about Zombrex and the army arriving to eradicate the quarantine also has a hidden agenda. I dig subplots which have to do with the military-industrial complex, so that's a plus. The Canadian eyecandy (Meghan Ory, Julia Benson) and the cameo of the Soska sisters are also pluses. I had fun, the two hours went by pretty fast. Don't expect a superintelligent, psychological and complex plotpuzzle and you'll be fine. Recommended.

Still rocking here too, as you can see from the reviews ;) A horrormovie a day keeps the doctor away :googley:

Insidious Chapter 3 - prequel, it doesn't have much to do with the other films, except for the presence of Elise. The BOOM scares are annoying, the creepiness is much, much better but also a lot scarcer, which is a pity. Production is nice, but the film didn't really grab me. I advise the makers to stop after this one and try out something new, the Insidious thing has been milked enough now. My advice: stick to the first one.

Condemned - this is a very dirty film, as in you might be grossed out several times by what you see on screen. There is a lot of puke, a lot of yellow goo and there is also some gay militaristic BDSM involving pee sex (well, not actually sex). The story is simple: rich girl has fighting parents, so boyfriend tells her to escape and come stay with him,. He however squats a condemned building on the Lower East Side where his neighbours are the BDSM couple, some junkies, a drug dealer and some more weirdos. The amount of chemicals in the sewers by the producing of drugs turn the inhabitants slowly into psychotic killers with foaming mouths and pulsating bulbs on their skin, and now the young couple has to try and stay alive in the mayhem that ensues. The craziness is a bit over the top, the goo is plenty, it reminded me a bit of Street Trash (maybe the filmmakers wanted to honour that film, dunno). Acting, music and storyline are all quitre below par, but if you just want some gore and then more of it and then still some, go check this out.

I dunno about A horror movie a day keeps the doctor away though Slayer... not in my case anyway. Stupid virus, lol. Glad you're still rocking though bud, I wouldn't expect anything less

Anyway, watched a few but nothing I really enjoyed
Agoraphobia, hated it
The Intruders, hated it
Intruders, not sure if I hated or loved it. Slayer? You seen this one?
Convenience, non horror, comedy. I don't find things funny so I wouldn't see the comedy side, but it was actually ok
Return to sender, hated
The Invoking, hated
The 4th Floor, hated
The Mafu Cage. How could I forget the Mafu Cage? I love this, and so does my eldest nephew, thanks to me. Awesome film

There's more but I just can't think at the moment... just starting to watch the 11th hour

You mention the same film twice, or are these different movies? If it is this one, I have seen it.

He Never Died - another take on the
Spoiler:
vampire
genre. Henry Rollins is Jack, a giuy who doesn't care about mankind and spends his days sleeping, playing Bingo and eating in the same diner all the time. One day a girl appears in his life and it turns out she is his daughter. Now there is something to care about and it turns Jack's life upside down. Jack has a little deal going on with a medical intern, but he has money trouble and when the bad guys come to collect, Jack gets involved. Then the bad guys kindap his daughter, this makes Jack mad, and he stops at nothing to find out where she is. This will cost a lot of blood, some of his own, most of others. In the meantime there is a woman named Cara, who tends the tables in the diner he frequents. She is getting a crush on him, but she doesn't know what she is getting into at all. This movie is labeled horror/comedy, but that is quite misleading. Although I laughed once or twice, this is by far not a comedy and I don't think it was meant that way either. There is horror in this, but it is very limited, it could almost be a thriller without anything supernatural in it. This film is not like most other films. I had to get into it, it takes some 30-35 minutes to do so, but then you get a real nice picture of Jack's life and it is an extraordinary one. Something else, for a change. If you are looking for something new, pick this one.
Recommended, maybe even highly.

OK, the one in the link I have seen, the other one I haven't I guess.

Suspension - slasher which starts off pretty cool, with a chick making a YT video in which she punishes a serial killer on request of viewers, I thought the idea was quite original. This lasts only for a ferw minutes, and then the film spirals out of control: first, the killer escapes. Right, so you are gonna make this video and then you let your victim, a very dangerous man, escape. Stupid! Then the main story starts, and the killer will be the main perp in it. The story is a classic about Emily being bullied at school, having secretly some fellings for the jock in class because when they were young they used to be close friends, her best friend selling out to her and the teachers wanting to suspend her because she makes weird and horrific drawings about gory killings. It reminded me a bit of Carrie (the best friend is even named Carrie), but without the class of that film. The killer starts murdering people in the meantime, neighburts of Emily, people from school, etc. Not really exciting and the use of colur filters is wrong: the blood looks very unnatural. Maybe it had a meaning, but it was very plastic and fake looking. The plot "twist" is one that I saw coming after maybe 15 minutes, and I was hoping the entire film that I would maybe be wroing. Alas, I wasn't. Besides this superunoriginal ending, there were some really stupid things going on in this film which were actually quite unforgiveable. This made the film even less appealing imo. I won't ever watch this again, that's for sure.

Pod - somewhat weird film which gives you the impression that it is not so much of a horrorfilm, until the final scenes arrive. Low budget, but pretty well acted, nicely drawn up storyline and OK setting. It is about a family (well, one sister and two brothers) and one of them, Martin, apparently has gone crazy. Because he has been hospitalized before, his older brother Ed and his sister Leila are gonna check on him in the cabin by the lake he is living in for the time being. He is hellbent on proving that he is not insane, but that there is some creature in the basement controlling his mind. Almost the entire film is about Ed and Leila trying to convince Martin to come with them, but then events take a sharp turn. Not too long, and therefore luckily not too boring. This director looks promising, this film is somewhat different, so if you are looking for that: check this one out.
