I've just seen the movie and was actually positively surprised. Liked it a lot. Three or four times it almost gave me a heart attack. Don't expect anything really gory or scary, it's a kind of flick you can watch with your GF.

Synopsis</i>
Supernatural horror meets character drama in this Sam Raimi-directed thriller. Set in Georgia, the film concerns a widowed mother named Annie (Cate Blanchett) who is blessed with the ability to have psychic visions. When Annie is asked to use her powers to investigate the murder of a rich society girl (Katie Holmes) who was engaged to a local high school principal (Greg Kinnear), she finds her "gift" is as destructive as it is helpful. Many of the townspeople have mixed regard for Annie's abilities, including an abusive husband (Keanu Reeves) and his brutalized wife (Hilary Swank) (the former threatens Annie and her children with taunts that she is a devil) as well as a deeply troubled auto mechanic (Giovanni Ribisi) who may hold a key to the events in question. The Georgia residents soon find themselves all suspects in the investigation, and Annie is forced to confront past demons while still trying to help solve the mystery. The Gift was co-written by Billy Bob Thornton, who appeared in another of Raimi's thrillers, A Simple Plan.

Review</i>
While Sam Raimi continues to broaden his scope as a hotshot director for hire with this gothic Southern-fried mystery thriller, his quasi-stylish camera work and a fine performance from Cate Blanchett can't overcome the wretched script's hokum-filled roots. Playing precisely like a dull "woman in jeopardy" television movie of the week, The Gift contains a few moments of genuine suspense, but even these are largely contrived (a lurking shadow turns out to be a friendly visitor, but not before "popping out" from behind a door in order to goose the audience). The real horror contained in the script by Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Epperson is the unrelenting depiction of women as victims of domestic violence, threats, and even homicide. By the time the film gets around to depicting a clich?d, one-note sheriff played by J.K. Simmons and an absurd, prosaic courtroom sequence that unfolds with all of the awkwardness of a student film, viewers will have mentally checked out.

Oh my gosh, when i saw this at the cinemas I could not watch anything with keanu reaves in it for the next week! This role completely changed my view of him as a person even though he was acting. This is quite a good movie but i wont download it lol

Don't expect too much. It more of a drama than a horror really. But still it makes a good TV movie, above the average.

keanu reaves should act in a remake to "Pinocchio" after all he acts very wooden. :P
He's an American indian and in every movie speaks very much so .. he could play a hasidic jew from Brookyln and still convince me he's an American Indian.
I love that robotic delevery of his dialog.. he's an Actor damn it!!!
:argue:

"The Gift" was a decent movie, he wasn't in it that much.

I'd like to hear some alternative casting suggestions for his role in Devil's Advocate. How about Kevin Spacy? it would require a little rewriting though, because of his age...

Thanks for the AFR :beerchug:

Time to lose the 1CD rip, this film deserves the upgrade IMO.
