I stuck a link in the "Anyone Interested In" section for a film I pinched off the Newsgroups
I wondered if anyone else uses the groups
I pay Giganews $11 a month for 10 gig
but I put the tick in wrap around - ie when I get to 10 gig they swipe another $11 - it cost me $55 dollars the first month!

but I have got loads of Audiobooks ( i love them) by Stephen King, Dean R Koontz (both horror) and Terry Pratchett (definitely not horror)
I also get most of the horror films that are posted there
far quicker than the mule but at a cost....

If I find any not mentioned on HHAH I'll post em here

Not sure what you mean satan - I log on to the news groups with a login given to me by Giganews and I don't intend giving that out
You can use any newsreader to view the groups - I use NB Pro but you have to set that up with your newsreader ie
I am with NTL (my ISP here in the UK) and they have there own news reader but it only allows access to 32,000 groups so I prefer to pay Giganews who allow access to 67,000 groups and have a 30 day retention period for most posts.. does this help?

Besides my user/pass.

Don't want to call them for this.=)

I'm with NTL, and can safely say their newsgroups are bloody terrible. I use usenetserver.com for my newsgroup access, they're cheap ($39.99 per quarter with unlimited downloads) and they carry all the groups I need :)

I'm sorry - what do newsgroups have above irc channels ?

I mean movies , bizarre rare anime, warez patches blahblah etc.....they're all on irc right ?

and for messages only you can acces a lot of newsgroups thru google newsgroups not ?

I guess what i'm asking is : what's so special about newsgroups ? :?

instant downloads, no queue, no assholes/kiddies, no hassle, no effort, access to much, much more, etc.

I think a better question is, how can you ask that question?
But that will probably be because you've never used one right? If not, your doing something very wrong I think.

Anyway, unfortunately I am currently on BT and their newsgroups are worse than NTLs (if you believe that PCA :( ), so unfortunately I'm unable to use it.

Worse than NTL?? I seriously doubt that, NTL have NO retention, few complete posts in binary newsgroups, very few binary newsgroups of any kind in fact and the only server they have that works reliably is text only (i.e no binary newsgroups AT ALL).

I'm not exaggerating either, I wish I was :(

Yes I am paying - for what I want !
but so are all the other users so half a film or an unfinished prog is very very rare and I can go back 30 days on the majority of newsgroups - How long is stuff on the irc - I don't know because I have never tried irc!
Maybe someone who has tried them both could be a better judge

@Craftee

I just took a look at the multimedia groups and there all rar files about 360kb each.
Could you give me a quick guide on how to extract and join together all those bits?

Cheers

John

For movies the rar files are usually about 20 meg each!
you have to download all the rar files (or learn to use par files - these are repairs for missing rar files.) then just unrar the files into an avi or a bin and cue file.

u pick the file that have the .rar in the ending... if its a splitted file the rest will follow, anyway always check the sfv file to see if u have all the files... if u dont know what a sfv is go read this link...
