err, seriously, on having traveled abroad to some rather anti american places, every place i been had problems. the US has problems, everybody got problems. most regular usa people (like me) just go to work at a crappy factory job for none to high wages, 40 to 60 hours a week, doing bullshit, getting drunk, and having absolutely no effect on what our goverment does. the people you from other countries meet are definately not the average us citizen, the dumbasses you see as regular usa person on our tv shows are not much like the real usa people. err, you other people from countries would probably only have met soldiers(err, l guess like i was), dumbass tourists, religious freaks, conmen scammers and assorted business conglamorates wanting to push thier way into your country.

I can tell that from the way you talk, Monkey. You don't come accross as "that" type of American. And you are obviously not alone, as pogrammes like South Park and The Simpsons seem more British in their style, with an ability to self criticise their nation/politics/values when the need arises. Unfortunately the overall picture we get of the US on our TV's here in the UK, is one of a giant McDonalds sponsored trailer park, which is a crying shame really. Having said that, i think it's fair to say that most people in the UK feel more of an affinity with you guys (good and bad), than we do with mainland Europe. Can you feel the love?

I know the single biggest thing that pisses most ppl off about the US is the image of self importance they try to portray to the rest of the world. I have nothing against our friends across the pond on a personal level, some Americans are pretty great ppl, but they can be so annoying when they try to impress the world and influence it.

Some Americans are actually quite funny in their total lack of knowledge about the outside world, I actually had an American ask me what it was like to have to do as we were told by a king?!?!?!?

One thing the net has taught me tho is that I should be more open minded and less stereotypical about other cultures, except the French, they really are beyond help and should be wiped from the face of the planet.

Mind you, they aint a patch on Europeans for annoying the fuck outta me. Yeah I know I am form the UK, but I am British, not European.

I was of the same opinion as you but i think in there defence i must say this.
I know quite a few people who have homes across the channel in brittany
and they say the French people there are very,very friendly and helpful and if you can speak a little French they love you even more, and i don't mean Encoule and fermez la bouch(sp?).
The image that France portrays doesn't help either, i think it's mostly the Parisians that portray arrogance.

@Ohgod, I guess we Brits are just not as willing to relinquish our power to foreigners. I do not think a super state in Europe is a good thing, humanity is not ready to work that way yet. Don't get me wrong, the day we can all live together in harmony will be great, but we are not even close yet.

How would America feel if it was told it had to be semi governed by Cuba? I think most of the anti-euro shit we have in the UK is not so much the fact it is the Europeans, but more the fact we wish to have control of ourselves. I know that in reality no country is that independant, what with all the political and economic factors, but it is more to do with what the general public believe. I know that every day we become closer to Europe, but it is being done in such small steps that most ppl do not realise this fact.

I personally would prefer to distance ourselves from Europe and become closer to the US, I honestly believe we are more suited to having closer ties to the US as we have more similarities to the Americans than we do to the Europeans.

As for Muslims, I do not actually know any first hand, and unfortunately my only opinions have been formed by third party info, so I do not particularly trust them. The media has led me to believe that they are all psycho suicide bombers, and I am pretty sure this is not right, so i will withhold judgement until I have some experience of the culture.

I hate these kinda chats about politics and all that shit, cos everyone has different opinions, and everyone believes they are right. I hope no-one will get offended by my comments.

I remember reading a rather nice post over at SR I think. It was written by a german and basically was aboot how land boarders are just abstract and no one can decide in between which ones you're born, therefore saying you're 'Prowd of you country' is mere BS!

This is most clearly seen in national sports where the fan will go abosolutley crazy if 'their' country win/looses even though they themselves had nuttin to do with it what-so-ever! Btw ever notice how they say '[Insert country] WINS' but only the name of the athlete (ie. not the country) if he looses?

The sad fact is that we will not be ready to live as one ppl for the foreseeable future, hell it could be another 2000 years before we even get close. I believe the single biggest factor in splitting the world up has been the many forms of religion, altho this is just my personal belief. I do not doubt the good that religion has accomplished, but it has accomplished far more bad shit. How many deaths have resulted from religious differences?

I long for the day when we are all just one nationality. The day we lose borders, lose religion and lose economics will be the day we truely begin to realise our potential as a species. My dislike of Germans, or the French or whoever else is only what I was taught, whether consciously or sub-consciously, whilest I was young, and I personally blame the media for this, altho other factors are involved. Like I said before, my limited opinions of Muslims, for example, were thru what I heard on the news, and on the same note they are often taught that we are the infidels, hatred just breeds hatred. We are taught form a young age to be patriotic, and this in itself is not a bad thing, but how we act and to what extremes we go to prove this fact is what can be bad.

@Doc, dunno about root of all evil, but many horrors have been committed in the name of religion. The question is, how many of those horrors would still have been committed without religion? Probably quite a few LOL We, as a species, prefer to find ways to blame our actions on some outside factor, but in reality we all have darkness within us, it is just a case of how strong the counter balancing forces are. It can actually be quite scary when you look deep within yourself and contemplate what you could really be capable of given the right set of circumstances.

ah, pynhead(doesnt post much here) is french, seems like a nice enough fellow. pleasant guy, friendly and not rude. though i do suspect he runs a snail farm.

i'd have to be in the group that religion actually causes much more suffering and death than the benefits of a belief fullfill. religion gets twisted, slanted, intermingled with politics and soon whole cultures are wiped out with more violence bloodshed death destruction caused in the name of god. almost every religion has a 'dont do evil shit and dont kill people' as thier base, but it always gets perverted to 'lets kill all those who arent like us'.
