Second, if you really can't stand A LOT of violence, then don't bother seeing it.

Fair enough if you gave it a 2. I gave it a 10 but that probably would have been a 5 or 6 if it was just a movie. This is so much more and I think those who gave it a 10 would probably agree with me.

How could critics say PASSION OF THE CHRIST was too violent if they praised KILL BILL: VOLUME ONE? KILL BILL is a lot more violent than THE PASSION. There's only two extremely violent scenes in POTC: Jesus being whipped for about ten minutes or so and being nailed to the cross. In "Kill Bill," we see characters being beat up, stabbed, sliced, diced, scalped, and having blood pouring out of them like a water fountains throughout various times throughout the motion picture. And guess what folks, the movie which played its violence for laughs is being praised here. How ironic.

A superior remake of George Romero's 1978 classic, DAWN OF THE DEAD, featuring a uniformly excellent cast, cinematography and screenplay (by the renowned James Gunn), and stylish direction (by a first-time director, no less). We just bought the DVD of the original and watched it before seeing this remake, and while the original is still a masterpiece (and looks brand new on this remastered DVD) it pales in comparison to the remake. Jake (THE CELL) Weber and Sarah (GO) Polley are outstanding as a young couple thrown together in the wake of a cosmic disaster that has turned the majority of the populace into flesh-eating zombies. Among a surprisingly large cast, Ving Rhames and Mekhi Pfeifer lend able support as zombie killers extraordinaire. The CGI is for the most part subtle, and the physical stunts and special effects are stupendous. The body count is much higher and therefore much more satisfying than in the original. The plot follows the original just close enough, and pays respect to its sense of twisted logic and sardonic humor. Wait until you see the sequence where a sharpshooter picks off "George Clooney," "Burt Reynolds" and "Rosie "O'Donnell" at the behest of the beleaguered group. There's also a neat, devilish bit near the end that pays snarky tribute to another schlocky horror masterpiece, Larry Cohen's "It's Alive." Not recommended for anyone under 12, by the way. It's way too graphic and depressing. Stay for the closing credits for an arch bit of business, about which I will say no more. This is easily the best horror film since THE RING and THE OTHERS and way ahead of recent efforts like JEEPERS CREEPERS I and II, RESIDENT EVIL, CABIN FEVER, THE TOOTH FAIRY (aka DARKNESS FALLS) and 28 DAYS LATER.
