In real life I have met just one single person who share the same interest and passion for my favorite movies. A couple more who share the passion for good movies in general, but most just wanna see bigbuget hollywood crap. When I'm with friends and we decide to rent a film it's usually 'Don't let John choose. It'll just be something weird and sick'.

So I endure romantic comedies and silly action features from time to time as an offering of friendship.

Is this the norm in your guys life as well?

mmm, I'm VERY lucky in that my Girlfriend will happily sit down and watch pretty much anything (guinea pig, scrapbook, bloodsucking freaks (her favorite movie) etc), but draws the line a long way before hollywood blockbuster crap, so she refuses to watch bad boys, matrix 3, LOTR etc

My friends on the other hand, are mixed about the whole thing most of them will watch mainstream horror, but aren't prepared to sit through the darker / sicker stuff.

Yep!!!

Although I know some on this board will be posting otherwise and even commenting that they managed to find a person of the opposite sex that enjoys horror!

But me, especially with my last GF, involved watching the horrors downstairs while she went to bed and then having to creep up slowly into bed not to disturb her.
If I was lucky I could get to tell her about the wicked horror I watched lastnight but that was it!

But I do have friends that I can talk to and get excited about Dawn of the Dead, Freddy Vs jason etc etc....just not as many as I'd like.

And yes a trip down to local vid store with mates usually results in coming away with Love Actually DVD :?

j/k

I actually know quite a bit about movies and have an opinion on everything, however, my collection of movies simply dwarves everyone elses so I can normally state prescedent and win arguements

However, one of my friends, like memorises imdb so I don't argue with him  I swap movies and shit with many people so I get a lot of stuff that's non-horror, but we don't normally rent movies because we've all got dvd-rips long before they hit the stores over here.

We take up a handful of our movies each and watch whatever but my stuff normally wins out  That or we end up playing on some stupid game like Super Monkey Balls 2

However, I do get called obsessive and weird when I reference obscure sci-fi films. Horrorwise, when I say "why don't we watch ..." I normally get funny looks until I tell them how hella cool/lame something is.

And for some reason I get shouted down for claiming Farscape is the best sci-fi series *period* (that includes red dwarf it hurts me greatly to say).

Darkplace and south park go down well too :)

I don't know did I

I can get away with saying I was answering the topic title

And people SUPPORT your local VIDEO STORE!

And piss on BlockBuster.

I rarely rent nowadays anyway, but sometimes it's good to pop down the video store and rent an offical copy - hehe.

And to be honest I went a looong period of my life say 14-18 not even knowing about whole genre's of films and it was only my introduction to laserdisc and having a job so that I could purchase them that showed me there was such things as ITALIAN Zombie films/cannibal films etc etc.

ah how I treasure my laserdisc collection, except now that DVD is out!

i kind of rent movies, i rent them online.
?15.99 a month and they circulate 3dvds my way. Huge selection and they are very responsive. Great company to deal with :)

I'm looking into signing dead-donkey.com up to their affilates, apparantly they give us ?6 for every signed up generated by it so its worth a shot.

The only other option in my book is the library, video shops, suck ass. Choices is terrible and the local/non-brand ones are even worse.

Looks interesting!

Never heard of that sort of rental scheme!!!

But at the moment I'm trying to keep my monthly out goings DOWN.

Coz I wondered where all my paycheck was going every month... till some-one pointed out that NTL,SKY,MOBILE, etc all eat away at it :?

Most people that actually know me well enough to find out how many movies I own and then actually see the kind of content of said movies think that I am depraved to say the least.

i seem to be much luckier than most of you. :) i know several guys who like or even love horror movies. one of 'em is an even bigger fan than me and earns enough to not always download the flicks but buy 'em. BTW, he is the warmhearted sponsor of the "basket case trilogy" and "the guardian". i have in fact been trying to lure him to joining this great forum. just moments ago i sent him a link to the quiz which is going on here. hopefully this will change his mind...

anyway, no one thinks i have a twisted mind for watching horror movies. obviously, i have more openminded friends (well, not all of them of course). 'cause even the ones who rather like blockbusters sometimes give in when i tell them how great a certain horror flick is. :beerchug:

I would say 'happily you're not a girl'.... I know a few people who are never reluctant to watch some weird movies but it's more for adding somethg to their cinematographical culture than ... passion. And they are all men. And almost all gay :wacky: It's difficult to be a girl, to have a passion for Italian zombie flicks of the 70's and to be taken seriously I'm afraid. Apart from my studies, I work in a movie theatre that mostly shows independent/arty movies and I'm kind of a local attraction, in the bad sense of it. So, I have to admit I really enjoy this forum where I feel no prejudice :)

I take ya seriousley!!!

You are few and far between, and I admire the fact that you are female and on this board don't treat you or you're posts as any different to all the blokes!

Working in a movie theatre that shows cult films....that must be cool?

I am lucky in that my missus enjoys most horror that comes from hollywood, and so do most of my mates. Problem is she draws the line at films like Zombie 90 that are really bad, she also does not like sick shit like Guinea pig, but luckily my nephew likes all that shit too, so I guess I have the best of both worlds really.

I have many different friends, one day I walked past a moviestore with one of them and we began talking about films, it turned out that he's a big horrorfan, also into cheap ass crap :D

I don't know if you'll find this funny, some people do, others say that its wrong to hit girls. Anyway my last relationship ended in a fight, on one evening where my girlfriend didn't want to see Toxic Avenger, because it wasnt a 20 billion $ film  Well it wasnt exactly the reason, but it kind of pissed me off as well.

I pity the fool that dislikes bad horror movies.

Violence towards women is wrong in my eyes, but sometimes unavoidable. By this I mean I have hit a woman before, but only enuff to stop her stabbing me again, put her on her arse and left.

Damn those freaky bitches LOL
