i got an old pII 450 i use as a media box with dvd drive wired 2 my v.nice tv, the only downer is that the gfx card is a gf2mx400 and the tvout sux cause i cant get rid of borders :( every version ov tv tool i got from SR neva worked, oh and sumtimes the sound can be a bit quiet (maybe only with ac3 movies) would love 2 get a chipped xbox as think is pretty kool but jus cant afford one :(

Like I said above, check the new Detonator drivers from nVidia, they really enhanced TV output.
Your sound problem sounds familair. Make sure you have set you AC3 output to stereo. This can be done with AC3filter. You can also enhace AC3 sound with it.

There's also a cost issue, I cannot understand why people buy those mp4 standalones when for a couple of quid more you can get something which will play ANYTHING and continue to do so for sometime to come :)

As well as being a console and emulator fan's dream ;)

my kiss-player plays ANYTHING except those q-pel-shit and will continue to do so due to firmwareupdates that can be run simply by putting a cd with the update in your player. picture quality is better than tv-out.
and for the x-box: i won?t support no MS products as long as i don?t have to. emulators will work on my pc as well.

That's fair enough if you choose not to :)

as long as M$ keep losing ~$50 per console, I'll keep buying em
hit 'em where it hurts

Although I'll just quickly point out that I can play q-pel, mpg,MSk,ogg,wmv9, real etc as well which AFAIK the Kiss player cant.

A chipped xbox goes well above and beyond anything M$ ever wanted to do to the xbox and by having one you're pissing on their technology by scrapping all there coding and using homebrew stuff.

So I love lording it over M$ with my chipped xbox

I take it you don't have/use the window$ OS then Gorehound :P

hmm. the only movie that i couldn?t watch with my kiss so far was one with queer q-pel. perhaps this problem can be solved with
the next firmware.
and.....err.....i like to play pc games so.....have to use a M$ OS, compelled to. i avoid MS-stuff as long as i?m not forced to use it.......
unfortunately there are too many good games that run on Windoof....

i didn?t want to say that this x-box solution is shit - no - just wanted to explain why some peeps or at least me buy a standalone....

doooh, nab the xbox back DxaKrator, and Gorehound i think standalones are fine and at the price they are you can't go wrong!

So with a standalone you can burn 6 avi's to a dvdr and load them in and pick which one to play?

If I didn't have an xbox would have bought a divx standalone a while ago, but I have an xbox and a hardrive or the power to stream files from my emule client PC.
So I'm happy!!!

But will have to look into these new nvidia drivers coz I TV out to my portable TV in my bedroom!

6 flicks on one dvd+r and choosing from menue which one to watch, yesss paul.
would like a bedroom-TV, too, not only for wanking - no - always watch movies till i fall asleep in my livingroom. if i?d already lie in my bedroom i would spare the hike to bedroom in the small hours and consequently precious energy.

Spot on mate and with these new fangled TV's nowadays they have sleep timers on so you can set them to turn off automatically after 1/2/3/4 hours :)

thats why i got one, hated falling asleep to a film in the living room hiking upstairs to bed and then not being able to get back to sleep
