Recently I'm experiencing problems with my CD burner and it will probably break down completely very soon, so I'm considering buying a DVD burner, but since I don't know a thing on DVD burning, perhaps you could tell me what's important and maybe suggest which one's worth buying?
I think I'll go for Lite-On 811S, multi-format, very good test results (comparable to Plextor ) and very cheap.
I know this was discussed several times, but it was some time ago nad the situation might have changed a bit...
Thanks in advance.

If you can, wait until dual layer burners are available.. I've heard rumors about late Q2.

Seems to be getting poor test results... Very poor error correction...
@Spud, is this true of all 8x burners, or just "Pioneer 107"?
I know this may be boring for you, but could you please list at least a few features that make this drive better?

i'd imagine it would be true of most, but pioneer 107 they mentioned in an article about it. Plus with pioneer being the best selling brand and the performance of the 104/5/6, i'd have thought 107 would be a better brand.

hmm checked error checking:
Quote: | This is generally a difficult disc for most drives to read correctly. The Pioneer DVR-107D performed admirably in this test with a low total error count and no samples skipped, receiving a test score of 76.4 out of 100. |
Quote: | This is a much easier test disc from the TDR-721R but there were some loudness and muting errors. The best drives will usually register a perfect score of 100 or very close to it, and the Pioneer drive managed 90.1 points which is a very good score. |
Doesn't seem bad at all

Hmm, I guess it varies from site to site...
I've just checked my local retailer and the price of Pioneer 107 is exactly 150% of Lite-On 812... It's going to be difficult: I don't like Lite-Ons, but test results are really admirable. It's cheaper than Pioneer, but the latter may be soon able to burn dual layers... I know that Pioneer is generally a beter brand, but heck, I may be forced to go for the cheaper one.
