ahh, but i digress,
so thier i was waiting in line at the grochery store, and thier was a errr, hindi(?) woman in front of me, with the robes, and the face viel thingee, and the dot on her forehead. so of course i started up a conversation with her, i thought i would start off with a little joke, kind of to break the ice and not make her think i was some kind of wierdo, though i do start up conversations with almost anybody i am next to if i am next to them for more then around 32 seconds...
'Heya ma'am! your from india? wow! i had a the strangest thing happen to me, involving india. you see, one day, it was perhaps the luckiest day of my life, i was happily walking along, whistling, generally having a swell time, when i went into the casino. now, im not one to gamble, but i only had a few bucks and some time to kill, so i out all my money(about 12 dollars) on roulette, and wouldnt you know it? i won, and i figure, that was pretty easy, i will just leave it there see what happens if i win again, and wouldnt you know it, i won again, then again, then again, it was amazing, i had about 541.000 dollars, and this had to be my luckiest day ever, or at least this week, so i walked out, (with my winings, of course) and decided to make a night of it, to really enjoy myself, i happened onto some kind of massage parlor, now im a bit of a country bumpkin, i didnt know what goes on in these places. i see the masseurs, and one of them happened to be indian, like you! we go back upstairs to a room, and wouldnt you know it, we start having sex(i think it was one of those full service massage parlors, really quite unexpected). after a while, though i really couldnt get into it, and she asked me what was wrong, and i told her that dot on her forehead was very weird, and quite distracting. she said it was very important in her culture, though she would remove to please me. so, i scratch it off, and wouldnt you know it, i almost fainted in surprise! she asked me what was wrong, and i said, 'you wont believe this, but i just won a car!'.
and now, let it come to no surprise as i lunge over and scratch that damn dot off your head, i want a boat this time.
and BAM
i was back on probation again, all's i won was an asswupping.
True Story.

Please, please especially not cartoons. If you think dubbing is bad in general, you have never experienced a german dubbed cartoon. I agree with most of you, that dubbing is bad. But even bad things can be done in good and in bad quality. And Germans are usually perfect in dubbing. Except for cartoons. They are usually done in the most possible horrible way.

What was peoples view on the dubbing of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon?
I thought they did an excellant job, but of course prefer the original language subtitled version
Just thought, as thats the only example I can think of where dubbing was done well?

Utterly stunning film, but much better in original language and subtitles. Even with such a good job they did dubbing, it still looked cheesy and degraded the movie in my estimation.
And I thought it was one of the best action films of recent years, far superior to that matrix and terminator drivel
Shame Ang Lee went on to make The Hulk

eh, you lost me.
i did like the dubbing of the japanese scientist in attack of the killer tomatoes. that may very well be the best dubbing i had ever heard, and thats what made it funny.
i prefer dubbed films to subbed. i can see where it would seriously detract from the vocal portion of an actors portrayal of a charachter to have someone nonchalantly murmur,'oh, my god. that man stole my baby.' with about as much emotion in it as if he were ordering soup.

the matrix had such potential then after the first one its like they let some hormonally inbalanced woman write part 2 because it was completely different it was all about neo and that woman whatever her name is i dont care, getting it together and more of a romance film, what a giant big bag of wank

a little sad to hear that you didn't like the norwegian spoken in 'Deadline'. Especially since it's in Dutch.

heheh, really? dutch?
damn, i thought it said it was from norway.
my mistake.
eh, but i dont get to hear many languages, sides spanish, german, and once in a while russian and bengali, occassional japanese, chinese and korean.
i imagine if i played english backwords, that would be equivalent to how people who dont know english hear the words.
most of the errr, white people/viking/anglo countries i never hear anybody around here speak.i do have many bizare and rather doubtfull theories on the actual creation and inflections, word orders, flow, or hard constanants, different feminine/masculine possessive forms, errrr, it goes on and on the more i think about it. boils down to the brain structures resulting from how word structure and order influence the whole mental process.
hehehe, i have many theories, each more odder then the last, with little to no way to feasably find an answer for my many hypothese.
hehehe, i guess i get off track on every post. yep, im like the a bomb, everybodies laughing and having a good time till i show up with my peculiar theories and blow up.

Original language, always. When I started watching Versus for the 2nd time (first on DVD), and an English audio track came up, I was pissed. Also astonished at how awful the dubbing was. Pretty much any emotion the actors had disappeared (insert obligitory Keanu Reeves reference). Same with Bio-Zombie. Hell, they even changed the character's name from 'Bee' to 'Crazy'.

Sorry for reanimating long-time-dead topic if it's against the rules, but I just wanted to yell something out.
Not so long time ago, there was Italian Horror festival in Belgrade/Serbia with Argento and other dudes from Italy. I watched Phenomena, and it had Italian dub! Italian movie, originaly recorded with English spoken language had motherfucking Italian dub!! That was craziest thing I've ever seen/heard.
Well, worst of all are english dubs of Italian and Asian movies. Spanish people do good dubs (I watched, just for fun, Soylent Green in Spanish/Castelano, and it was great! I couldn't say this for German and English dubbers, though)
In general, dubs are done for some strange people who doesn't know how to read. It really pisses me of!
Sorry again for raising the dead topic

It is never too late to die with fresh breath. It pleases the Gods... "Mmm, minty fresh breath, now that's what I call a sacrifice."
