how DO you guys think this 'war' will end?

1. In a police state kind situation with 'Thought Police' that will arrest you for making any tiny copy of anything. Everyone will get fines and arrested all the time and people will get so scared by all this shit that most will eventually stop using p2p, hence the quanitity of both users and availible data will fall dramaticly.

2. The RIAA and all those will finally have to admit it's a lost cause and realize that instead of beating the filesharers with 'violence' they can instead render them useless by lowering prices on copyrighted stuff, and people wont bother all the hassle of downloading and playing pirated copies.

3. Much like the amiga went down because of copying, the RIAA's prophecies come true and p2p destroys the music and movie industry. Films and music are all so easily availible for download BEFORE you can even buy them and everybody gets it for free. More and more companies go bankrupt and the quantity of products fall dramaticly.

4. The anti-piracy guys finally manage to force all isps to have some working 'anti-p2p' firewall/blocking system and it'll be much harder to keep on going.

I know I'd like to believe nr. 2 myself, but is it just wishfull thinking?

and another thing:
Most guys I've read about that've got 'caught' for p2p'ing have had like 5 films or 50 films, or 100 mp3s or something like that. What do you think would happen if they would raid any of our users place and find almost 2000 titles? 15 years jail?
Would it matter that most were of obscure origin, lowbudget and not even availble for purchace in the country?

There's like a good point in all of those, but I strongly feel for those two above.

But for 2. doesn't it have to be the moviecompany's and recordlabels whom have to make the decsion to lower the prices of their stuff, if you ask me they can easily do that, they just have to lower the costs of their promotion campaigns which IMO are just insane. Ofcourse you have to interest people in your product but paying these insane prices for a cd or dvd nowadyas is just wacko !! If i buy my self a Heavy metal record from a tiny recordlabel from a tiny band which obviously doesn't have a big promotion campaign behind it i will not pay more then let's say 12 euro which is let's say 13 usd, if we compare this with a mega act like let's say metallica you will pay 22 euro/23 usd.......... get my point if they start lowering their promotion cost, because i think i little less promotion would still do the trick wouldn't it result in increase of the total sales amount, becuase cd's will get cheaper and people will buy more easily.

3. This is also a thing which is in the back of my mind a long time. What will happen eventually, will the total market be destroyed by d/l i don't know but I guess it could in a way. But if you ask me if one really likes something he/she would buy the original thing instead over a pirate copy. The positive thing of downloading though is that you can save yourselve from buying a complete useless movie / cd / program................................

As for if they come to raid someones home whom a has accidentally d/l 2000 movies  most of the d/l things are copyright controlled, even if they are not available i ya own country still it is a thing they will not tolarate

1. hmmmmmm, i suspect there will always be piracy; the people who create the anticopy/macrovision/laws are usually somewhat responsible for the defeat of the anticopy/macrovision/laws so they will have another job. seems there needs to be a 'constant threat' making it essential to keep creating new products. like antivirus companies wouldnt concieve to use thier 'research' into viruses to spread and create the need for thier industry. if i made a program that was perfect, never needed an upgrade, that's just screwing myself out of future profits.
2. since the entertainment industry in the usa(and probably most other countries) is so intertwined with the goverment, i doubt stopping the of p2p programs is thier goal, just containing the technological explosion and controlling its use, extending thier own powers and integrating themselves into each person's life. a non-stop pay-per-use society, logged, catagorized, and bulk emailed until two years after we die; when the plastic wrapping of culture comes off, and when we realize the wrapping was better then what was inside. sad to say, i think the only perpetual motion machine people as a whole will ever have is greed.

3. or more then likely, i wake up to the sound gw bush taking a shower, and i realize the whole thing was just a dream, and J.R. wasnt shot. just like last time....on Dallas!

hehe, sorry, i sound like a little bitch.

I do not think that will happen, a lot of people download the stuff out of convenience... it IS eayer to simply grab a file and have it there in a few days than to go out to the store and buy it.

I think that eventualy the studio's will have download on demand www sites oif there own. If you can't beat em join em. You log into a record lable and download wat you want, mabey for a modist time share fee (like you pay and get 6 month acess)

Then they make the real cash from conserts, t-shirts, toys.. REAL things not intelectual property.

Do not know if this will happen.. Stephen King once tried to make a free online book and failed... in fact as far as a know not 1 single "free entertainment" venture has worked on the internet and made money yet.

I mean instead of spending all this time trying to stop movioe piracy, y not relesae the tiutles themselves and put the dosh into movie festavels, movie houses, niche underground cinima.. Bring a rebirth of the film industry.
