I'm very curious to what you did  Startup programs listed are all totally none vital. Vital components are launched in the win.ini or as services in the background.

i messwith my registry alot. it's pretty easy to make some problems if your not sure what you are doing.
some firewalls take a bit to initialize on somewhat older computers, that is what this computer does, and it pauses for probably a minute when i reboot.
hehe, i seem to be getting soooo much adware-gain-coolWWW, type crap, it is making me iNsAnE. i am at war with gator.

I use ad-aware and spybot regularly. shouldn't that be sufficient against all that shit?

I'm now in the middle of transfering my temp dir, but go figure, 50gb takes a little while to transfer!

No network activity, no search for DHCP server. :) Network service can't start until you get assigned an address and other services are dependant on it.

Use manually assigned IP address instead of automatic. To check your current (automatic) settings use IPCONFIG /ALL in command prompt and then transfer those settings in your NIC IP setup.

WOOOOHOOOO!!!! Finally found out what this bugger was!
'File and printer sharing on Microsoft Network' was checked by default, and that caused this tremendous lag!!!

Incidently, I followed this nice guide:
http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/sho ... hp?t=15159
and now my puter is better and faster than ever before!! Alot of the tips in there are elementary, but there were a few that I didn't know about, or had forgotten. Boy, am I a happy trooper!!
